Plok

It's obvious, after all, that Plok tries very hard to be a quality piece of software, and for a large part, it succeeds brilliantly. So, thumbs up to Plok. It's not perfect, but it's jolly good fun all the same. Platform fans, you know what to do.

Plok weaves a good game. Once you look under the covers, you'll find an engaging, thumb numbing adventure. If you like hop-n-bop action, pin down Plok.

The enemies in PLOK are very varied. Apart from the omnipresent fleas, there are also hopping young birds, falling logs, fish, paratroopers and boulders with an attitude. The setting is also rather varied. You'll even have to play Plok's grandpa for a dozen levels or so, in traditional movie-like black and white. The plot of PLOK is quite silly, but therefore original. It also has a nice "feel" to it.It is quite suitable for children, but don't expect them to finish it.

Unfortunately, things didn’t work out that way, as the rest of Plok was an exercise in repetition. I found myself doing the same basic things over and over again against the same handful of foes. It just didn’t hold my interest. Plok is a very appealing game aesthetically with its colorful graphics and whimsical music (especially during boss fights when diabolical laughter sounds just before demented carnival music introduces that level’s big foe), but just doesn’t have enough substance to make it much more than a temporary diversion from whatever game I’m playing seriously at the time.
