Fans of the series won't want to miss The Next Generation and there's a lot here even for Doug Brumley types who have never seen the show.

Star Trek games typically haven't been exciting, but this game is better. There's more interaction with the characters both on and off the ship. Every aspect of ship operation is at your control, yet taking the landing party down for missions get boring. The graphics and cinemas would be better if they weren't so pixelated. The storyline is very cool with tons of missions and fans of the show, like me, will find it interesting.

Overall, I wasn't that impressed with either version of this title. Both end up being unnecessarily laborious. The developers obviously thought the ship combat game was more fun than it actually is, especially when you're forced into every fight and left unable to continue the game until you complete lengthy repairs. Away team missions are either surprisingly short, or laden with irksome platform switching puzzles and maze searches. I actually enjoyed 25th Anniversary for the NES more than this, and though that title shares a lot in common with this one, at least knows how to do puzzles without dragging on.
