I played three racing games extensively on my SNES--Super Mario Kart, F-Zero and Uniracers. That's pretty good company. Maybe Uniracers is the forgotten one, the overlooked one, the never-saw-a-sequel-like-the-others-did one, but it's one of the most original games I've ever played and a great example of how much fun video games were when they didn't take themselves so seriously. There's plenty of personality in those little unicycles. I actually grew quite fond of mine. I like the green one.
It takes long time to learn all the different stunts and combinations and last but not least all the courses, so that you know where the various obstacles like clay and stuff are placed and where the free open spaces where you can safely perform your stunt are. this is the main drawback of the game because it can easily get boring to try to memmorise all the games around 20 courses but on the other hand it makes this game a real challenge with long last ability. The 2 player mode is a welcome option in Uni racer as it´s many times more fun racing against a friend than an boring and predictable computer. All in all Uni Rally is a new fresh SNES title that I recomend to racing fans that have got bored of all the F1 and Go Kart racing games and wan´t to try something new and special.
All Game Guide
Uniracers is certainly not for everyone. Those who like skate boarding games will probably like it because of the tricks you can perform. Racing fans will appreciate the high speeds, and anyone looking for something a little different and nonviolent will want to at least give this game a try. The controls, once you get used to them, are smooth and efficient. The competition is fun and exciting, and the little unicycles are actually cool and enjoyable to control in a strange kind of way.
Video Games & Computer Entertainment
On the surface, Uniracers is a superfast, occasionally frustrating action game. Dig a little deeper, though, and you'll find that it's addictive qualities outweigh it's flaws by about a ton. Take it for a test drive; you'll be hooked.
A clever concept that's a little one-dimensional. Uniracers is the most fun you can have with one wheel on the SNES.
Uniracers has its unique charms, I suppose, and I'm sure some younger players will find it absorbing, but the whole concept seems excessively twee — which, come to think of it, is my reaction whenever I see anyone riding a unicycle.
Electronic Gaming Monthly (EGM)
I don't know. I'm a fanatic for racing games, but Uniracers does nothing for me. Oh sure, the background visuals are good with vibrant colors and the sounds are decent, but the adrenaline rush you normally feel while playing a racing game just isn't there. The little twists and stunts you can perform help out a little, but I just found myself dozing off. Not intense by any means.
