Infinity Gene takes the iPhone very seriously as a hand held game console and it does so with all the polish an arcade giant like Taito can give it.

As you can tell, we highly recommend Space Invaders Infinity Gene. This is a gorgeous shooter that has a variety of surprises, coupled with replay value that most shooters can’t touch. Buy it.

In addition to the Normal mode, there's a series of very tough bonus stages, as well as a mode that generates levels from music on your hard drive and a mode that creates 99 different, increasingly challenging stages each time you play. These randomly generated and musically generated stages aren't as compelling as the expertly designed Normal mode, but even if you just stick to those 30 stages, you get so much great shooter for your $10. It's not quite infinite, but it is one of the most inventive and flat-out fun space shooters of the past few years.

Space Invaders Infinity Gene is a fun game. And at $9.99, the price is right, too. The game’s standard mode and its endless emphasis on leveling up will keep arcade fiends coming back for more, while its multiple ancillary modes will please those looking for a little diversity in their experience. When you throw in Achievements (which aren’t easy to acquire, mind you), and online leaderboards (which are always endlessly addicting in games such as this), you have a package that’s worth purchasing. Infinity Gene is one of those adaptations of a gaming classic that flat-out works. It’s hard not to recommend it to the gamers it caters so well too. If you’re a gamer with an old-school slant, a fervent fan of arcade shooters, or are a youngin’ with a hankering for a history lesson (per se), well... look no further.

IG's immediate, pressing visual and audio effects can be a shock to the player's system. Immediate reactions will register on the "what the hell" scale, but with a little time, gamers will have a fluid, evolving experience that's got them on the tips of their thumbs.
