Space Quest 6 on pääosin hyvin onnistunut peli.

DOSComing Soon Magazine
"Space Quest VI: Roger Wilco and the Spinal Frontier" is the first title of the series to be available exclusively on CD-ROM. There are over 600Mb of data occupied by SVGA graphics and voices from dialogues and narration which makes a release on floppy virtually impossible. The game can be played using the DOS and Windows environments, like most other new titles released by Sierra On-Line lately. However, it probably won't be the case for products in 96 as Windows 95 seems to have been adopted by game makers as the perfect gaming environment!

Alles Roger!

It's hard to keep a good man down. When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Quitters never win, and winners never quit.

Space Quest 6: Roger Wilco in The Spinal Frontier is the first made for CD game in the long running Space Quest series. Each game in the series has taken advantage of the newest technology available at the time. This latest sequel is no exception. It is a full multimedia extravaganza, complete with original music and digitized voices. This is also the first game in which the player can hear Roger Wilco speak.

DOSQuandary
Roger Wilco returns in this latest episode from Sierra complete with bad puns and tongue-in-cheek references to earlier Space Quest games and popular science fiction films and TV shows. To name just the most obvious, Star Trek, Star Wars, Aliens, Indiana Jones and even Asimov's Fantastic Voyage, all are parodied lovingly, if unmercifully. Those of you who delight in identifying obscure references will have a fun time with this game.

If you enjoy humor in your adventure games, Space Quest 6 should be right up your alley. Though the game's instability can be extremely annoying, when you aren't restarting, you're having fun. I feel leery about recommending a crash-prone game, but if Sierra can address this (and I'm sure they will), I endorse it with flying colors. I would have given it a 9 out of 10 if stability hadn't been such a major issue.

In some ways, the best thing about SPACE QUEST 6 is its title: both the subtitle, which offers the best pun in the game, and the mere fact that the game is a new SPACE QUEST at all, regardless of how good it is. There were something like five “Police Academy” movies and eight or nine “Friday the Thirteenth” installments, and it wasn't because they kept getting better every time. People like what they are familiar with, and those sorts of people will like SPACE QUEST 6 just fine. As for me, though, I'd rather see something brand new, different, and more inspired than yet another go 'round in a well-worn groove. Inspired silliness and crudeness can be great fun – look at FREDDY PHARKAS or LEISURE SUIT LARRY. But take away the inspiration and what's left, the merely silly and the merely crude, gives you sadly little to get excited about.

The game's graphics are good enough to let you lose yourself in gameplay, especially once the controls become second nature. The only problem you may find is in the nature of the puzzles, many of which are hard with no hints or clues provided. Though your hair may be torn out by the time you finish playing, your sides will undoubtedly be sore from laughter. For great fun and a great laugh, Space Quest VI: Roger Wilco in The Spinal Frontier truly delivers.

DOSJust Adventure
The subtitle of Space Quest VI, "The Spinal Frontier," is obviously a parody on Star Trek V: The Final Frontier. Besides the name similarities, these two pieces of science fiction have one major thing in common--Star Trek V was undoubtedly the lamest, most pathetic, most forlorn, and any-other-synonym-for-pitiful-and-bad-you-can-think-of of the Star Trek movies, and Space Quest VI seems to carry that torch as well for the Space Quest series. While not a totally horrible game, knowing that The Spinal Frontier is the last of the Space Quest series is sure to leave any fan disappointed.

Though Roger Wilco fanatics may manage to find something to love here, most other players can safely skip the final entry in the Space Quest franchise.
