DOSJust Adventure (2000)
If you can sit through Monty Python and the Quest for the Holy Grail without cracking a smile, you probably won't like either Space Quest 1. But if you have a sense of humor at all, even if it was just laughing at some idiot getting a concussion on America's Funniest Home Videos, Space Quest 1 is a must-play. So there!
AmigaTilt (May, 1987)
DOSThe DOS Spirit (Dec 01, 2008)

DOSAll Game Guide (1998)
Space Quest 1 is definately a classic, with no flashy graphics, earth shattering sound, but sill packs a punch were it matters: the gameplay.
DOSTechtite (2000)
Several cute puzzles and inside jokes, including an amusing alien cantina, add to the fun. This was truly a fond game memory; a fine addition to Techtite's choice list, of Top 50 Multimedia Classics.
DOSAdventure Classic Gaming (Oct 02, 2009)
In all, Space Quest: The Sarien Encounter is surely regarded as among the most original classic adventure games of all time. The plot may be paper thin, but the game is so full of fun.
Atari STThe Games Machine (UK) (Dec, 1987)
I shall keep returning to Space Quest until I surface the victor, but in the meantime I thank Sierra for supplying a very good game.

Space Quest is an adventure that should satisfy arcade-adventure enthusiasts, at the same time offering an interesting challenge with a difference for enthusiasts of the traditional adventure format.
DOSAdventure Gamers (Jan 04, 2008)
Undeniably flawed, yet undeniably fun, the original Space Quest is perfect for classic adventure lovers and sci-fi fans. As 1/6th of the bargain-priced 2006 Space Quest Collection, there’s no excuse not to play it.

Atari STST Format (Mar, 1995)
[Budget re-release] Of course, Space Quest does have its good points, the first being the humour which, though tiring at times, certainly helps lighten the tone of the game.

Although I would prefer not to describe myself as gullible, I do have a little self-esteem left, I would willingly accept that I am an avid consumer. However, years of playing computer games has taught me the ability to spot a really bad game a mile off, however well it is disguised. Space Quest is just such a game. Looking at the lavish packaging you would immediately think that the game was everything you had ever dreamed of in an arcade-adventure for the Amiga. Delve a little further, however, and this dream will turn into a nightmare. When I was first given the game, a quick scan of the back of the box, generally a good way of gleaning info, revealed that Space Quest was an arcade adventure with (to quote the bumph) “Out of this world three-dimensional graphics”. The game starts with a pretty poor opening sequence, especially compared to the likes of the Karate Kid II (reviewed elsewhere in this issue), and gets even worse.
