his game is good, but I don't think it's the one that Spawn fans had hoped for. It follows the story line and the characters from the comic well, and does a great job of capturing the overall mood of the series, but the gameplay itself doesn't have the right attitude. The extended arsenal was a great start, but with the enemies as easy as they were, it was hard to feel like Spawn was the badass that he's supposed to be. I almost felt like a bully while I was playing. If you're a Spawn fan, I can definitely recommend this one, but you may want to rent first to be safe. If you're just looking for a good action title, I would say to hold off, or go back and play another one you missed.

This game is an arcade action title that is not very deep in terms of plot. It does sport a lot of action and the graphical quality is quite good. If you are looking for a simplistic hack ‘n slash, you should check this out. Spawn Armageddon is a solid foray into a combat heavy world.

Best described as a solid rental for action fans and an ideal purchase for Spawn followers, Armageddon isn't that bad at all; but it still could have been better: challenged by a few technical issues (especially on the GameCube) and held back because of its repetition, it might not grab as many audiences as Namco hopes -- Even if it is mindless, good-looking fun. That said, Spawn: Armageddon definitely has potential. With a couple of mechanical refinements, better power balancing, and an improvement to enemy A.I., a sequel could certainly turn some heads. Here's to hoping.

It's hard to believe that Spawn is already more than a decade old, and even more difficult to accept that there has yet to be a decent videogame based off of him. Already subject to several iterations in the 16 and 32-bit eras, the world's most depressed hell general is still waiting to be exploited to his full potential. As up until now, no one has managed to unlock the correct combination of action and atmosphere to appropriately nail the character; we've always been given tired side-scrolling beat 'em ups and claustrophobic Fighting Force clones instead.

Demons Might Weep. (Nope, that won't work.) Demons May Cry. (Not quite right.) Wait, I've got it -- Demons May Spawn! That is, in a nutshell, what Spawn: Armageddon truly is. It's Devil May Cry gameplay set within the Spawn universe.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn is undoubtedly one of the most popular comic book characters ever created. Due to his more "mature" attitude, the macabre nature of the series, and McFarlane's artwork, Spawn has been embraced by the underground and the mainstream alike. So, when Namco announced that Spawn: Armageddon was in development for all three next-gen systems, a legion of fans waited with bated breath. Now that it's been released, will the title deliver, or will it just leave fans waiting for the next Spawn game to come out? I got ahold of the PS2 and Xbox versions, and here's what I thought.

Spawn, like most superheroes, hasn’t quite gotten a proper treatment in the medium of video games. His titles root back to the 16-bit era, but not one game released with his likeness has really been worth his salt.. However, Namco and Point of View are looking to change all of that with the release of Spawn: Armageddon. The latest game featuring the former Al Simmons has him hacking up demons in a noted homage to Capcom’s hit action game, Devil May Cry. However, whereas Devil May Cry’s main character hacked away at demons with a sense of style and finesse, Spawn’s latest adventure feels cumbersome and boring thanks to camera problems, overall bugginess and repetition.

Games that possess icons, like Superman, Buffy, or Terminator, often attract two sorts of fans. One camp will have bought everything released for that titular character to date. The other side of the coin will not likely be impressed unless the product itself is gripping. Armageddon's greatest appeal to Spawn fans will be its visuals and an opportunity to don the cape on a modern console machine. GameCube owners beware as Armageddon has been reported to lock up frequently on that system. Lock up or no lock up, though, non-fans are looking at an attractive but typical third person action game.

Spawn: Armageddon follows the story of a government assassin that dies and returns from hell. But instead of doing deeds for the underworld, he uses his newfound powers to violently exact retribution and his own brand of justice in New York; a kind of modern personification of the Old Testament's eye for an eye rule. All of this constitutes as decent gaming material. No holds barred, there's no excuse for this good guy not to exercise full force on his opponents.

Spawn has done a lot of things for a lot of people. Spawn made comics cool again for a lot of people when he debuted in the early 90s. He helped put Image Comics on the map and able to compete with the big two of Marvel and DC. He made his creator, Todd McFarlane, a very rich man. Which then allowed McFarlane to amass one of the greatest collections of "important" baseballs ever. Just like baseball has been "very, very good" to Sammy Sosa (the hitter responsible for many of McFarlane's collection), Spawn has been "very, very good" to a lot of people.

Spawn: Armageddon is a game that tries to ape bigger and better games in its chosen genre, and it manages to pull off little more than a weak imitation, at best. Granted, if you're a diehard fan of the comic book, Armageddon still might hold some appeal for you, simply because of the license. But beyond that license, there's nothing here that hasn't been done better by countless other games. If you aren't a rabid fan of the Spawn franchise, then you would do best to just ignore Spawn: Armageddon.

Todd McFarlane's Spawn has become one of the most recognizable and popular comic book characters ever to hit the mainstream. The comic series has spun off into a number of different merchandising directions, including a highly popular series of action figures, a dark and gritty cartoon series on HBO, and a feature film starring Michael Jai White and Martin Sheen. There have also been a couple of games based on the Spawn franchise--one for the PlayStation and one for the Dreamcast. Sadly, both games failed miserably to make good use of their license in practically any way. The latest game to bear the Spawn namesake is Namco and Point of View's Spawn: Armageddon, an action adventure game that heavily borrows from the concepts found in Capcom's Devil May Cry series. Unfortunately, regardless of the game's inspiration, Armageddon is a mediocre action game that is carried only by its license.

An impressive music score can't even save this version of Spawn. The game may be the best Spawn game to date, but that's not saying much with a showing that's this disappointing. Exorcise those evil thoughts and pass on Armageddon.

Much like the true evil of this world, the devilish exploits of Spawn can never be totally erased from existence?hence the next showing of Todd McFarlane?s superhero on this generation?s console systems. Ah, where?s the holy water when you need it?

Spawn: Armageddon isn’t a terrible game. In fact, it’s quite playable and even enjoyable in short spurts. Does that justify a purchase, though? For Spawn fans, maybe. But purely from a gamer’s perspective, Spawn: Armageddon is a two-night rental and nothing more.

All these flaws would be acceptable (apart from the camera) in a game aimed at a younger audience but with a rating of 17 it is hard to see what kind of challenge the game hopes to set for its target audience.

I serieform är Spawn kung. I Spawn: Armageddon är han bara en knubbig farbror i tajta kläder som lunkar runt och önskar att han vore Dante.

You might have already surmised the following: Spawn: Armageddon is not worth your time. Even if you're a total Spawn freak, please repeat this mantra after me: I am a gamer first. I will not serve. Granted, games that are far worse have been released, but these days, there are too many good games around to even bother with something like this.

From the depths of Hell comes a game experience like no other. Invoked from the suffering of a thousand and one tortured souls (rather than coded and designed by a two dozen well-paid ones), Spawn: Armageddon sets the earthly realm aflame with action that is as well-conceived as it is infernal and unholy. Psych! I wish this review could start like that. Actually, Spawn: Armageddon is a second-rate Devil May Cry clone starring Todd McFarlane's ubiquitous superhero/marketing phenom, and this is no understatement. Even if you're a diehard fan of the comic series, you probably won't have much fun with this. Save your money for the action figures instead.

In short, Spawn: Armageddon plays a lot like Devil May Cry. Only that it's not as smooth or inspired as the game it patterns most of its gameplay after. Still the game can have spots of fun while it lasts and shows promise for future Spawn games. There is still no clear victor in the long line of comic book leavers though.

The only good thing about this game is the variety of attacks available to you, Spawn’s initial arsenal consists of his axe, hell powers and chains but as you progress through the levels it is possible to obtain a shotgun, burst missile launcher, inferno cannon or mini gun. If reigning death and destruction down upon your opponents is your thing then you’ll take to this like a fish to water, however speaking of our aquatic friends the range of weapons does nothing to gloss over the fact that killing enemies is like shooting fish in a barrel for the most part.
