PlayStationGame industry News (GiN)
A while ago, I reviewed another Spec Ops game and gave it 4 out of 5 gems partly because it was fun and partly because it was only $10. However, I solved it almost immediately and never played it again. Covert Assault is no different. I solved it in two quick sittings and after this review I probably won't play it ever again. But because it is a $10 (I'm assuming it is since its predecessor was) I am giving Spec Ops: Covert Assault 3 out of 5 GiN gems.
There's nothing worse than a potentially great game that goes bad. Well, I guess getting lemon on a paper cut is worse, but that's beside the point. Spec Ops: Covert Assault could be a truly great game -- the two-player gameplay can be downright riveting, and despite all the flaws I detailed above I found myself going back to the game over and over. I guess the best we can hope for is a sequel that fixes the major issues, but keeps the intensity and interesting concept.

Spec Ops: Covert Assault is a cheap game for a cheap price. Those that found the first one a value will likely feel the same way about this update, and those who really expect realism in their "realistic" combat sims should steer clear of it.

I know it's only ten dollars, but my question to you is this: Why don't you demand more for your money? After all, if you owned a Dreamcast, you could get Virtua Tennis, Jet Grind Radio, or UFC – games that are triple the quality of Spec Ops for the same price. I think Alexander Hamilton would be furious if he knew you were wasting him on Covert Assault.
