It seems that this one is a game (Spider-Man 2: The Game being the full title) unlike its prequel (Spider-Man: The Movie being the full title of the first game). I’ve wanted to question the first movie-based game’s title for a while now, so it is nice to get that out of the way. One of the best things about being Spider-Man is being able to swing anywhere you want; it is a very effective method of transportation since you get a nice workout and very environment-friendly. Unfortunately, previous games always limited your swinging ability. Spider-Man 2 allows you to swing through anywhere you want in Manhattan (New York City) and builds on the gameplay additions of its predecessors.

The first Spider-man game to come out on the Playstation2 was great, although quite limiting. The control, graphics, and gameplay were all done really well, but there was no real exploration. Well, this time around Treyarch left what was right and fixed the few problems the first one had.

Spider-Man 2, published by Activision and developed by Treyarch, is the best Spider-Man game ever made, arguably the best superhero game ever made, and definitely one of the coolest games I’ve played all year. Not bad for a guy with such a shoddy track record.

While playing last year’s great Prince of Persia, I found myself wondering where Prince got all his crazy moves and if someone informed Spider-Man, because he should have been sitting next to me taking notes. Like any decent Stan Lee-fearing comic book geek, I was vexed by the fact that none of the past three Spider-Man games (Spider-Man, Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro, Spider-Man: The Movie) had been able to bring such exquisite mobility to my living room.

What can I say? SpiderMan 2's swinging mechanics impressed me a lot and it is more fun to swing around the city of New York than it is to actually try to finish the game. The game itself has a nice mix of fighting and timed swinging challenges to keep you busy for a while. Then, after you have beaten the game you can continue to fight crime and purchase ability upgrades to try to get a full 100% completion. This will not be easy, since there are a ton of things to find and do and you will probably be more interested in just swinging around the city of New York. But remember, "with great power comes great responsibility" and the job of Spider-Man cannot be all fun and games. So, get to work, Spider-Man.

Spider-man 2 is an adventurous and accurate version of the comic book/movie hero. Although the game has a short story it has hours upon hours of extras complete. Spider-man 2 is one of the best comic book / video game adaptations ever made. Pick this sucka up!

Ahhh, the good old movie to game translation. Everyone is starting to get somewhat good at it. Activision impressed me with a sleeper hit translation of Shrek 2 a couple months ago. But as we all know the most anticipated movie of the summer opens on Wednesday; Spider-Man 2. We've been bombarded with cool special effects trailers and promotions all over the place. And Activision has been at the ready and waiting for the movie to officially launch so that they could also simultaneously release one of the most anticipated games of the summer. But just like it's predecessor, this edition of Spider-Man the video game was designed to follow the feel of the newly released movie and goes beyond in terms of storyline. In fact, as I continued to see and play Spider-Man 2 I realized that the game takes on some elements of other successful Activision titles such as True Crime: Streets of LA.

It isn’t easy being a superhero, especially a superhero that is burdened with great power and the responsibilities that come with it. It is also not easy juggling two identities and, as we can see with Peter Parker, having to forsake the love of your life for the demands of being New York City’s protector really doesn’t leave time for life’s littlest pleasures. Spider-Man 2 for the Xbox picks up a year later after the incidents of the first game when Spidey took on the psychotic Green Goblin. Once again the game follows in the footsteps of the blockbuster summer movie of the same name.

It sounds like hype, but it's fact: This is indeed the best Spider-Man game yet made. From the rich combat system to the simple, inexhaustible joys of swinging through the city, Spider-Man 2 delivers the experience web-slinger fans have been begging for since time immortal.

Although both Rockstar Games and Treyarch will probably cringe at the sound of the phrase, Spider-Man 2, the fourth game in Activision's comic-book based series, is, without a doubt, Grand Theft Spider-Man -- a clear fusion of the ideas in Grand Theft Auto and the Spider-Man series. That's a good thing; a very good thing. Critics and gamers alike have been calling for something like this since the day GTA III stole Christmas in 2001, and now Activision and Treyarch have done something wonderful.

Let's face it, Spider-Man is one the most beloved super heroes of all time, so it is only fitting that his latest video game adventure attempt to live up to his lofty reputation. To this end, developer Treyarch has built Spider-Man 2 from the ground up to provide the most seamless and accurate Spidey experience ever -- and after spending a few hours of quality controller time with it, it is clear that even the harshest of critics will have little to complain about.

As a Spiderman fan for over a decade, I have been waiting quite a while for a game that accurately recreated the experience of being Spiderman. Several games have attempted to do so, while several others have merely opted to exploit the name of the biggest pop-culture icon of the 20th century without any real desire to remain faithful to the source material. In the same year, the same summer, that we have received the best superhero movie of all time, we have also received the best superhero game of all time – and they both happen to feature the best superhero of all time. The game certainly is not without problems, but in the area that counts most – the gameplay, Spider-Man 2 provides an experience unlike any other before it. A must own for fans of the character, and definite rental for those who enjoy the open-ended gameplay structure.

The first 15 minutes of Spider-Man 2 are the best ones. Not because they are particularly different from any other 15 minutes in the game, but because you experience them for the first time. After that, you will experience more or less those same 15 minutes a hundred times or so, and whether you like the game will most likely depend on how much fun you have doing those same things over and over.

Easily the best superhero title made, the GTA-influenced Spider-Man 2 truly captures the speed and acrobatic maneuverability of Spidey. The expansive city is truly an accomplishment, and the animation for Peter is quite incredible. However, the limited depth within the plot, repetitive side quests and technical issues hold this game back from being spectacular.

There are some experiences, however, that transcend individual taste and must be seen by the entire gaming populace. Battling Psycho Mantis in Metal Gear Solid; staring wide-eyed as you call forth your first summoned monster in Final Fantasy VII; scoring a massive combo in Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 3; jacking your first car in Grand Theft Auto III; and now…web swinging in Spider-Man 2.

Spider-Man 2 is a very uncommon game with a lot of common mistakes. It's the gameplay (not the concept) that counts when it comes time to empty your wallet, which is why I am unable to recommend Spider-Man 2 as a must-buy. A must-play, definitely. Hardcore players will get as much out of it as they can in a weekend. Casual players will love it and enjoy it longer just because of the sling factor. With those things in mind, take your gaming habits and personal tastes into account before adding Spider-Man 2 to your collection.

While Spider-Man 2 has some issues, nearly everything is outweighed by the fantastic web-slinging and the huge city environment. If we continue to see Spider-Man games that break new ground like this one, our favorite wallcrawler will still be swinging from the rooftops in another 40 years.

Spider-Man has been one of our most endearing heroes for over 40 years, and we've been able to enjoy him in a variety of forms. He's been in comics, live-action and animated TV shows, and, most recently, feature length movies. He's also been in some pretty decent video games, although he was always limited to traveling the paths set for him by the developer.

It's only when I get to the very top, the top of the lightning conductor at the very peak, that I remember quite how tall the Empire State building is. I've been up here before of course, as I imagine most visitors to the Big Apple have over the years, but I've never really appreciated as much as I'm appreciating it at this very moment. Why? I don't know - it could be any number of things. It's a much clearer day today than the last time I was here, so it could be just be that I can simply see a little farther and have a better view of the expansive city beneath me.

In closing, I would like to say that the game is acceptable for the most part; I only recently started using the advanced moves after beating the game, and having the whole city to play in is a lot of fun. Unfortunately, you really only beat up thugs in the same manner most of the time, the story missions that has to do with the movie are appalling, and the whole thing seems like it could have been a lot better. This isn't to say that it isn't a good game; it just isn't a great game. It is also short as well, doing the story mode and what-not at even a relaxed pace, not racing through and spending a lot of time just swinging in the city, I was able to complete it in 12 hours. It can get frustrating as well, but all in all, it is a pretty fun game, just a tad bit unpolished and doesn't live up to its full potential.

Overall Treyarch has done an amazing job with the game considering the short amount of time they had to improve on the previous version. Just recreating the city and getting the web slinging right is impressive on its own, but they aren't enough to keep the game from getting stale too quickly. The game can be beaten in less than ten hours, and while that's only 50% if you haven't gotten all the bonus hidden stuff, there's not really anything interesting enough to entice you to keep playing. You might break it out every now and then to swing around the city and take out some frustration on some bad guys, but after a fun weekend with the game, you'll probably be satisfied with just a rental.

Generally speaking, the Marvel Comics legend Spider-Man has always done reasonably well for himself in the world of video games. That trend continues with the latest team-up from Activision and Treyarch in Spider-Man 2. Though the movie-themed game bites off a little more than it can chew with its attempt at an open-ended design, it gets a few key mechanics right and gives you just enough things to do to offset what would have otherwise been a pretty short, simple game. It's still worth checking out as a companion piece to the movie, even though its terrific first impression doesn't hold up throughout the entire length of the experience.

Whereas Treyarch’s previous Spider-Man game was great for its time, it doesn’t feel like Spider-Man 2 did much to build on its predecessor. If you factor in the poor character models, horrendous draw distance, oft-mediocre voice acting, and incidental story, Spider-Man 2 comes down to a single gimmick: the excellent web slinging. Don’t get me wrong, there’s plenty of mindless fun to be had in the game, simply racing about and beating down evil, but there are far meatier games out there. As a game you could conceivably beat in the space of one rental, you’re certain to get your money’s worth at a video store, but as a long-term purchase, why not spend your money on the original if you can find it?

Spider-Man 2 has the foundation of a phenomenal game, but the small handful of supervillains, having to pore through the same few types of missions incessantly, and its short length leave it better suited to a rental. I highly recommend checking out the game, just for the exceptionally well-implemented experience of soaring through Manhattan on a webline if nothing else, but I'd suggest holding off on a purchase until the price tapers off into the $29.99 range.

To be fair, there is a heck of a lot to do in Spider-Man 2, even after completing the story. There are a total of 605 tokens to find, 300 time-based swinging challenges, and various side missions on the street. It’s just an awful lot of the same thing. Like one of Doc Ock’s mechanical tentacles, the side missions are merely a way to artificially extend the game’s length that still seems meager at 10 hours. Since there are essentially no meaningful rewards for completing the laundry list of tasks, you have to wonder whether Spider-Man 2 was released before it was fully complete. While this is the best Spider-Man game to date and a must-buy for web-heads, repetition and brevity make it a rental for everyone else.

Spider-Man 2 is yet another fairly decent movie-based game, but that's not saying much. The web-swinging system is probably the best reason to play this game, although it isn't an incentive for a purchase since it can become old after awhile. Everything else in the game is rather repetitive and gets old very quickly, and the graphic presentation is lacking at best. Spider-Man 2 will probably suit many people best as a rental, especially since the game can be completed in a fairly short amount of time. In the end, Spider-Man 2 is fairly dull and doesn't do much to help the movie-based stereotype out.
