This is a great game on the Xbox. If you're a major Spidey fan, or just someone looking for fun, then check out this game and you'll be very pleased. The Xbox is the way to go for this game, as it has the best visuals and comes with exclusive stuff.

Overall, this game definitely steps up movie games to a whole new level. Not only is it a good translation from the film, but it’s better than past Spider Man titles to hit PSX and Dreamcast. With it’s varying levels, varying gameplay, good solid sound, great graphics, and of course … Bruce Campbell (that one’s for me.) it definitely stands out as a winner and a good addition to the GameCube library. So Spider fans … quit trying to climb the walls and shoot webbing at your little sister. Go buy this game and live out the movie that way. It’s not only safer, but it’s a heck of a lot more fun. My hats off to Activision for making me a believer that someone can successfully make a movie to game translation … and make it good at that.

Spiderman would be the ultimate game if not for one problem - the camera. I've played a lot of 3D adventures, but I could never get a handle on the camera in this game. The right joystick can be used to adjust it, but it always seems to go the opposite way I would expect it to. When the angle changes automatically, you often end up heading in the wrong direction. In addition, the shortcomings of the XBox controller are made evident by this game. You need to hit combinations of the top buttons, and it can be tough to tell those little bumps apart in the heat of the action. If not for the additional two levels that the XBox version has, I would have went with the PS2 version. But overall, I am extremely impressed with Spiderman. As of this writing, it's probably the best superhero game ever made.

If you’ve ever wanted to be Spider-man, there’s no better opportunity. This game has it all, from clean, impressive graphics (in-game and cutscene) to unparalled control over the character, and everything in between. Comprising some 20 missions, the game should take around 15-18 hours to complete and the replay value is fairly high (most of the missions are great fun). Treyarch has realized a tremendous city for Spidey to roam in and balanced the play mechanics well. Despite a need to baby-sit the camera, the good far outweighs the bad in this title and it should be welcomed as an excellent addition to the Xbox library. While battling the Vulture the other night in the pouring rain, 100 stories above the streets, I realized that Treyarch had captured the most important element of being Spider-man….the power to soar, without fear, to dizzying heights…..and crack a few jokes while you’re there. Take the Webslinger for a spin ….you won’t regret it.

When Activision and Neversoft Entertainment released Spider-Man for the PlayStation back in August of 2000, everyone's first reaction was that there is another horrible comic to game translation. Activision proved everyone wrong, as it was the first game to capture the essence of a comic book superhero. Since the first games' release, Vicarious Visions developed a second game entitled Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro. That game improved on several things of the original game, but still had its share of problems. This time Activision has chosen the talented developers at Treyarch to create the latest Spider-Man game (based on the movie opening next month).

Spider-Man doesn’t get paid. Action is his reward. And it’s yours, too, if you pick up the web-slinger’s PS2 debut. Every Spider-fan knows that with great power comes great responsibility. Treyarch and Activision have shouldered both for Spider-Man’s debut on the PS2, and the results are, well, super.

Activision and Treyarch have really destroyed all of my wonderful stereotypes of how bad videogames based on movies are. Spider-man for the Gamecube (and PS2 & Xbox for that matter) is actually, against all odds, is a great translation of this summer's blockbuster movie into a home video game. Sure, they take a few artistic licenses with the story and characters, but the finished game is a wonderful tapestry that mixes the movie with the comic books with near perfection.

For a Spider-man fan, this is a title that cannot be resisted. There are some drawbacks to the game, which may turn off the average player who is not a Spidey fan. Counter that, though, with solid animation, more than its share of action, a great storyline and terrific voice acting, and you have a game that is a winner.

When it's all said and done, Spider-Man is just in plain, and overall, a great game with a few shortcomings that need a bit of fixing up on in order to make the best outcome a game could be. Spider-Man, while it probably is the best Spider-Man game available on the market, the problems within, albeit only a few generally can't be overlooked. For anyone who's a fan of the web spinning and swinging super hero will most likely find major interest in the game. Even for those people not too indulged in the comic book story behind the man in the mask, but are specific fans of the film, might want to check this game out anyway, given the fact that there's many secrets to be unlocked and enjoyed for a good amount of play time that'll last for weeks to come.

Personally, I found myself enthralled with the video game, so much so that I pulled a couple of all-nighters going through the game over and over again and noticing new details each and every time. The combo and reward points systems are great additions to the series, and the tighter control scheme makes wall crawling unbelievably fun. Any comic book fan, fan of the movie, or gamer should swing their way to their friendly neighborhood game store and pick up a copy of this game. You won't regret it.

I love the fact that every Spider-Man ability I could ever want has been included in this game. You get the sense that you're operating through a standard third person adventure game, but you get the benefits that come with spider-related powers. The outdoor segments are outstanding and gave me the chance to do somethings that I've always wanted to do in a videogame. You can watch Spider-Man in the movie and read about him in books, but Treyarch has delivered the only way to control Spider-Man and have him do everything you know he's capable of…and they made it look good.

In the small world of videogames, nearly every superhero game has earned its place next to the lost and buried Atari 2600 E.T. cartridges for good reason. It's sad, but true, superhero games usually suck. Thanks to Activision and its developers, however, the Spider-Man series has risen above the drudgery of games with restrictive, dumbed-down design and poor implementation to reflect the personality and spirit of the comic books themselves.

Spider-Man: The Movie successfully purports the essence of the Spider-Man universe in fully rendered 3D form. The control takes some getting used to but overall the control dynamics are very intuitive. But be warned, a gamepad is a necessity to fully enjoy this title.

XboxGame Informer Magazine
Activision has had its hand in Spider-Man’s webbing for several years now and has proven time and time again that it knows how to create a stellar game that is faithful to this license. Of course, the Spider-Man motion picture is an entirely different beast than the lighthearted comic adventures. Certainly, Activision could have forged a game that follows the film’s story verbatim. I highly doubt, however, that gamers would’ve enjoyed having an emotional heart to heart with Aunt May, or having to attend school every day. Rather than experimenting with a newfangled formula, Activision and developer Treyarch stuck with their guns and developed a game that complements its existing stable of Spider-Man games.

Spider-Man: The Movie is enjoyable from beginning to end, with enough diversity peppered throughout the experience to keep the action fresh. Kein Must-Have, aber gelungene Unterhaltung.

This game is going to cash in big time on kids’ excitement over the movie, and it should. Spider-Man is a pretty solid game, and gives you what you’d expect in an Activision sequel. The new zip lines are rather useful, and having the next-gen power to fill out the city levels is a welcome sight. I also enjoyed the many training levels, which weren’t merely hand-holders, but were often fun in their own right. However, I feel that this game didn’t fully maximize the opportunity that the movie’s spotlight provided.

An annoying narrator, who desperately wants to have attitude, gives tips and hints for controlling Spidey as the game progresses. There's the option of playing the game with an active or passive camera. If you head to the specials menu you'll notice "Cheats" is listed. Instead of just the usual cheats, such as play with a big head, there's a cheat to play the game from the firstperson perspective. Perhaps this game's biggest downfall is that when you're lurking in the shadows to surprise the enemy, it is so dark that you find yourself bumping into things. There's a load of moves to master - even more so if you select "enhanced" controls. The ability to web swing just about anywhere gives the sense of conquering a true freeroaming environment

Overall, Spider-Man: The Movie is a really enjoyable game. Beautiful graphics, superb voice work and sound, and satisfying game play are the highlights. There are some frame rate issues during the outdoor missions, but usually the game runs fine. I would have to say that nothing is better than swinging around the huge city, coming and going as you please. Combat can become repetitive, but the boss battles are superb and there really aren't that many toadies to beat up anyway. All of the combo moves and web abilities are well done and fun to use. Whether you have seen the movie or not, Spider-Man is definitely worth playing.

Spider-Man is an altogether satisfying game, despite its notable flaw. It sustains excitement nearly all the way through with enough variety thrown in to keep you interested past the first few levels. Faithfulness to the spirit of the license (if not the letter) is also a big strength. Spidey achieves this success in much the same way as Jedi Knight II -- it takes everything that's cool about a license and makes it part of an otherwise enjoyable game. The two compliment each other quite well here.

Spider-Man the Movie is not simply one of the best superhero and movie-based games out there, but also a great third-person action adventure. It's recommendable even to gamers who aren't comic fans, and the Xbox version is definitely the best of the bunch. Spider-Man is a great 3D action-adventure. Developer Treyarch has done an exellent job of recreating the feature film for videogame junkies, as Activision’s offering looks and sounds a whole lot like the movie, and even follows some similar plot lines. Control is, for the most part, very satisfying, particularly anything related to Spider-Man’s webbing moves yo-yo up to a ceiling and back down to the groung or swinging bad guys around knocking all the other thugs at the same time is extremely fun and sure to appeal to the spider-man in all of us.

Although Spider-Man contains no multiplayer options, the game is filled with extras. Beat it at normal difficulty and you get a special spider-suit. There's even a way to beat the game and play it again as (gasp) the Green Goblin. Norman would be so proud! The other nod toward replayability comes from style points. Sure, anyone can beat a level, but the more Spider-Style(tm) you do it with, the more points you get, which are used to buy movie stills, secret costumes, and other goodies. This last point illustrates exactly who should buy this game despite its problems: anyone looking for more and more Spider-Man fun in between his or her multiple trips to the cinema. And at a near-budget price of $30, it's a trip most Spider-fans will enjoy taking.

Finally, Maguire's speech is always performed to the tee; completely understated but commanding at the same time. His traits of honesty and frankness are always appreciated. I only wished the game was able to sign up all the other actors/actresses from the movie for the game since the cinematic story for the game is worthy of that kind of treatment. There's one moment in the film where Spider-man struggles to do basic web slinging and manages to barely swing across a chasm only to hit a building straight in the wall. That kind of frustration with the controls, unfortunately, tames an otherwise highly involving work of art.

Spider-Man for GameCube is a fairly linear 3D action-adventure through 22 stages of varying challenges, from stealthily crawling atop ceilings of warehouses and figuring out ways to unlock doorways to fighting flying bosses while swinging in the skies above the city. You control the webslinger himself as he brawls his way about, zips across walls and rooftops, punches, kicks, and dives over enemies, and generally impresses with his quick and powerful abilities.

Spider-Man plays a lot like a platform game, though with a solid 3D treatment of the surroundings and characters. Similar to other platformers through history, Spidey has to keep his health and resources -- in this case, web-making fluid -- at high levels, which he does via power-ups scattered throughout the levels. He can also build up his abilities by finding other icons that unlock combos. Much like a fighting game, these button combinations trigger special fighting moves, such as a backflip kick, an uppercut, a tackle, and a dive kick.

Spider-Man: The Movie is really two Spider-Man games. The outdoor levels are much more fun and enjoyable than the indoor levels--so much that the game could have been considerably better had there simply been more of the former and less of the latter. To be fair, some of the indoor missions are entertaining in their own right. And even despite the camera problems and some of the other issues, most players will probably enjoy playing what ultimately turns out to be a graphically enhanced version of the previous Activision Spider-Man game, which faithfully captured the superhero's moves and antics to begin with. For good measure, the sheer number of extras--which are rewarded to you based on your performance in each mission and include things such as Spider-Man Bowling and production artwork--along with the high degree of challenge, should keep you busy for some time.

Spiderman has had without any doubt, the best video game showing of any superhero character. Dating back to the SNES and Genesis days, Marvel's biggest franchise has been in some of the best licensed titles for each console. Maximum Carnage by itself was one of my favorite SNES games. The Amazing Spiderman on Genesis was no slouch either (Sega developed, no less), several appearances in Capcom's VS titles, and his stellar showing on the original Playstation. So with those standards in mind, Activision enlisted Treyarch (who were responsible for the DC ports of THPS 1 and 2) to work on Spiderman: The Movie for PS2. The game is, of course, based on the new Sam Raimi film of the same name. While I can't compare the two yet, if this game is any indication of what the movie will be, there's nothing to worry about.

But underneath all of that is a game that is remarkably similar to its predecessors, despite various refinements made to the controls and the gameplay.

Good news if you can't get enough web-slinging, skyscraper-straddling, thug-stomping action; Activision's Spider-Man convincingly delivers in terms of granting gamers an enjoyable movie-to-videogame treatment, especially considering some of the abominations of yesteryear (the craptacular Men in Black for the PSOne springs instantly to mind).

Now that we come to the summary, I honestly didn't know what kept me going throughout the entire game (which I've managed to finish BTW, so yes it's also kinda short). All things considered, it has to be the sneaking, creeping, crawling, and using the web-zip and combos. Of course, when you spice it all up with colorful and appealing visual effects, you get a quite catchy game. It gives you one of those feelings that make you play like crazy until you finish the whole thing. At first I thought there's hardly anything in it that will make you wanna play the whole game again. Later on, when I became well-versed in the art of web-zipping and swinging, I wanted to unlock some of those cool bonus thingies. Although, even these bonus features don't add up to much.

As a console port to computer, Spider-Man: The Movie is a faithful adaptation of the video game versions, shining in several places while dragging along in others. Its graphics achieve a crisp and pleasing level currently unattainable on standard TVs, and the web-swinging action is quite an attraction. Unfortunately, the release suffers from camera and interface problems that prevent it from attaining a higher gaming level, but at around $10 less than its console brethren, PC gamers with powerful rigs may consider checking out what this webhead has to offer.

Minor quibbles aside, this is a decent port of a very good comic book platform game. It lacks the sheer joy and zaniness of the previous game, but through and through, it’s a good Spider-Man game. Having enjoyed the PlayStation Spider-Man adventures, I was pretty excited about this release. Now, I’m wallowing in disappointment, having discovered that Spider-Man is just another middling third-person action game that falls prey to the fatal flaw that fells so many of its ilk: a bad camera system. Don’t get me wrong – this game is fun. Treyarch has made some nice improvements to the gameplay; including a quick zip-line web that makes scaling buildings a breeze, and a bevy of unlockable combos that give some semblance of the depth to the beat-em-up action at hand.

If you haven't got the point yet, then this is one to pass on. Fans of the comics will get more out of the original PSone version, which is probably cheaper than the cost of going to see the film at this point. For what it's worth, the Xbox version of Spider-Man: The Movie is the best of the bunch, with sharper visuals and more gloss and shine, but I would still urge those with the facility to seek their Spidey-thrills elsewhere, because the free-spirited arachnid's latest adventure is a pale shadow of its former self.

The list of goodies on this disc is long and juicy: officially licensed artwork and music, professional voice acting, loads of cheats, slick menus, and a plot that closely follows the film. Spider-Man is, indeed, the ultimate movie-to-game adaptation. Unfortunately, that’s light praise considering the track record for such titles. Spidey can pull off loads of high-speed moves, clinging and crawling on any surface. However, fun (and funny) training levels, decent graphics, and great sound are offset by gameplay that is linear, repetitive, and plagued by an unmanageable camera. In all, Spider-Man has great potential but frustrating flaws, and all of the Hollywood window dressing can’t do much to hide that.

At the end of the day fans of Spiderman fans will find plenty to enjoy as they relive all their childhood fantasies. Although it is one of the better film titles available when compared to the likes of Harry Potter and Monsters INC it is still along way off from such killer apps as Halo and Project Gotham. Hopefully Fox will be able to address this imbalance with the soon to be released Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
