The Japanese version of the game is radically different from the European and American release. The plotline is different and more coherent with Splatterhouse 3. The mask isn't the skull one featured on EU/USA releases but is a sort of kabuki-like faceless white mask (like the one on the Japanese game cover).

This was the first M-rated game released for the Virtual Console.

Regardless of what many people seem to believe, there never has been a Splatterhouse 2 arcade game. It was either the original Splatterhouse, a slightly altered version or a system running the Genesis version. Still, it has been listed on The Killer List Of Video Games for quite some time.
