Splume is a Bust-A-Move variant that is based on the original concept of shooting bubbles of different colours to clear a pattern on the screen. To make them disappear, three or more of the same colour need to be connected, and when dropping down, they take along bubbles of any other colour attached below.

Even though it is based on the classic gameplay, Splume expands on the concept by turning the strings of bubbles into organic structures affected by the laws of physics, animating them into living creatures and adding various objects that rotate or are turned into additional obstacles. At time, the starting position is moved to the side of the screen or duplicate sets of bubbles are shot with different trajectories. There is a main campaign mode where levels are unlocked one by one (clear the screen) and a more difficult survival mode. In most levels, there is no ceiling that drops down regularly to make the game area smaller. Bubbles come in different shapes and sizes and players can also earn various achievements and combo bonuses for specific actions.

Custom levels can be designed and uploaded to the main game. Unlike most other Flashbang titles, there is no general time limit for game sessions.
