No wonder the iPhone version of Spore Origins evolved into a position of respect among its peers. There's no doubt this is a superb single-player version of the game, boasting an ideal slate of features, colourful presentation, and good value. It deserves the lion's share of praise beyond these, though, because it's just fun.

Overall, spore is a great taste of what kind of game the iPhone is capable of having when a tallented group of developers get together and don’t just shovel garbage from another platform over. Spore is clearly built from the ground up to be on the iPhone, and it really couldn’t work on any other platform. I highly recomend picking it up, and with the price drop to $7.99, you’d be crazy not to.

This is a great game with top quality production values that make a package that is good value at twice the cost and is fun as well!

In Spore Origins, you start out as a microbe and work your way up the food chain by eating other smaller organisms, and trying not to be eaten by others. The game is very, very detailed and features level after level of amazing 3-d graphics, the ability to custom design your own creatures, and challenging gameplay. After a few hours, AppCraver is hooked.

Spore is a good casual game for the iPhone or iPod Touch and a solid compliment to the PC game. The short nature of the stages means you can jump in and out of a game in just a few minutes, and the regular progression of creature evolution means you'll almost always get something new with each session. That kind of consistent reward and the ability to tackle the game anew with each play keeps Spore fresh and worth coming back to time and time again. And the great production values, such as a mesmerizing soundtrack, don't hurt either.

It’s worth noting that Spore Origins (for both the iPod and iPhone) was developed by Tricky Software, an independent Mac software developer whose last effort was the 3-D side scrolling action game Armado. It’s nice to see EA work with existing Mac talent to bring new titles to the iPhone—and hopefully it’ll lead to more work for Tricky.

Spore Origins really showcases what the iPhone can do as a gaming platform, in terms of both gameplay and presentation. We really enjoyed playing through it, and we don't regret purchasing it for $9.99. All of that said, we're not sure this version of the game has much in the way of replay value, despite the developer's best efforts. At a minimum, it will take more, and better, levels for Evolution Mode to turn this game into a "must have."

Spore Origins est un jeu honnête mais qui n'exploite pas vraiment les capacités de la nouvelle plate-forme N-Gage.

That being said, we still recommend this game because it offers a unique experience you won't find on the iPhone, and it comes with enough levels and that cool Creature Creator. So, although Spore Origins feels like a proverbial one trick pony, its great controls, attractive scenery and fun monster munching gameplay makes it one of the phone's best showpieces. It's just not the revolutionary must have game we expected. Keep that in mind before spending your $9.99.

While we were initially entertained, too much of Spore Origins repeats. Level objectives are nearly always about gobbling up food or finding your way around simple mazes. We also had problems with upgraded creatures. Super parts, such as an electric attack or shell defense all fire together with a screen tap. And you’ll waste time waiting for them to recharge whenever you double-tap the screen to pause.
