A smooth framerate, flawless camera, and spot-on control makes the experience nothing short of sublime, and the game a near-perfect mix of exacting artistry and technical wizardry—not unlike snowboarding itself.

Exactly. SSX 3 is a great game and I would highly recommend it to anyone that has been a fan of SSX in the past. You will not be disappointed.

A true sequel to SSX, SSX 3 delivers everywhere we expected it to and more; a huge mountain, good characters, over 1000 unlockables including posters, art gallery, cards, and even toys, online play, fun multiplayer and a long lasting, replayable game. SSX 3 is an outstanding title, the best SSX yet... and, dare I say, the best snowboarding game yet.

Like a colder, moister version of Tony Hawk, the SSX series has owned the snowboarding slopes since its inception. Aside from the new, open structure Paul already talked about, the main gameplay tweak for SSX 3 is the addition of the board flex move—tipping the board forward or backward, like a conventional skateboarding manual—which lets players link tricks together into huge combo strings. The flex (activated by moving the right analog stick) might even be a bit too easy to use; if you just rotate the right stick continuously, there's no way you'll fall. Landing from big jumps also seems much more forgiving now, but if you do bail, you can tap the Tweak button frantically to recover and not lose your boost. Yep, still king of the mountain, although 1080º (GC) has a title shot later this year.

All the components of EA Canada's latest offering come together perfectly to create a wonderful sense of atmosphere. From the huge open mountain to the convincing radio station to the numerous events, this is one cool experience. A lot of games have been borrowing GTA's concepts lately (i.e. large, free-roaming environments), but this is probably the best attempt. With the only slightly bitter point being a ho-hum online mode, you have to check this game out now!

With this game out 1080 2, and its apparent development troubles should cease to be a problem. It is a standout member of the genre, with 1080, and should stay that way for a while to come.

SSX 3 goes above and beyond what I thought it was going to end up doing, and in fact there is so much good stuff going on in this game that it is hard to find anything wrong. The game is just a blast to play, and like mentioned earlier, has unlimited replay value. If you are looking for a new game for your Cube then look no further then SSX 3, because it's sure to make everyone happy.

SSX 3 offers an experience like no other, a rush that just can't be matched. It had a lot to live up to, but EA Big have delivered a game that lives up to the standards Tricky set, and then some. SSX 3 is visually stunning, expertly designed, and the ultimate example of fun. Now that, is synergy.

No blood, no muss, hardly any fuss. Just some smack talk and smacking around. People who are smacked just stumble or fall, depending on how they are hit. Due to the over-the-top jumps and falls, this one needs a big "Do Not Try This At Home" stencilled on the screen. After they've played the game you might want to keep an eye on them for a while. That's where the age reccommendation came from. If you don't want the game's music going for whatever reason, there is the option to turn it off and just play with ambient mountain noise.

Other than that, and the slightly weak two-player racing -- which is fine in its own right, just nothing new or spectacular -- SSX 3 on the Xbox is a rocking game that everyone should track down and grab immediately. EA knows how to do sports better than any other game publisher out there.

Complete and utter freedom. That's the theme of the antics in SSX 3. Unlike most games in the extreme sports genre, developer EA Canada shows no concern for locking the player into a set path. The high-speed shredding is constrained only by the size of your addiction.

The overall theory behind SSX 3 is one of freedom. The game is designed to allow you -- the player -- to tackle any and all of the challenges in whatever order you want. Taking all the components from the first two games, and adding in more new features, SSX 3 is more complete than most anything else out there. It's up there with the Tony Hawk series in terms of depth and replayability, but at the same time, you're not forced to follow any linear path in order to progress.

Our favorite hardcore snowboarding game is back in a big way. It pushes the edge of just about every dimension on the previous two installments. It's bigger to look at, with bigger and more intricate tricking and a whole new world to romp through.

After a two-year hiatus, the SSX team has returned to bring one of the most authentic, albeit ridiculously defiant of physics, snowboardercross games the world has ever known back to its fans with a completely new philosophy. After the somewhat minor improvements made in SSX Tricky, the developers decided to take some time to design a totally different approach to competition with a familiar control scheme and add tons of goodies like new tricks, courses, and riders.

If you are still sitting there reading these review and don’t have the game already, run out and get it now. SSX 3 is by far the best snowboarding experience on any console. Often you get a game that looks great but doesn’t play so well or vice versa. It combines superb graphics with deep gameplay to bring gamers a great gaming experience. It’s not often that a game gets every aspect of the game right. SSX 3 is definitely a game that you don’t want to miss.

SSX 3 is a superb snowboarding game. Xbox owners looking for multiplayer boarding may want to check out Amped 2, but SSX 3 stands alone as the single best extreme sports game out there (aside from the Tony Hawk series). Racing, freestyle, and freeriding are all equally fun, and the added extras of long runs and Big Challenges make this a great alternative to homework. An excellent game that deserves Game of the Year considerations.

EA Sports BIG have outdone themselves with SSX3. One of the best games on the Playstation 2 in SSX Tricky has been revamped and improved so much that this game is a certain purchase, even if you own both prequels. The levels of detail, the course layouts, amount of extras to unlock and most importantly the gameplay, makes this a certain puchase. It's hard to imagaine a better game.

You'll probably instantly enjoy SSX 3, but, at first it may not seem that wowing... but trust me, once you hit the second and third slopes you'll realize this is one intensely wild animal — and one that will take months and months to tame. And the best part of that is that you'll have fun doing it all. If you were wondering whether to buy it, you've got my recommendation — but even those just a little curious owe it to themselves to rent this game. No doubt, the SSX bug'll bite you and you'll be racing down to the mall at ten minutes until close just so that you can buy your own copy.

SSX3 is an improvement in every way. From level design, control, tricks, audio, visuals, etc… Even for SSX virgins it’ll be hard to put down. Plus it has even the dedicated players feeling like they are learning to play something new, but with everything still right at home. SSX3 is now crowned the king of Snowboarding 2003 so far. With 1080 Avalanche coming soon that title might be disputed. But until then buy SSX3 and enjoy it alone or with buddies. If you're an SSX veteran you shouldn't even be wasting time here any longer you know what must be done. If you are new to the series, you're in luck- this is easily the best of them all and is a great place to start.

SSX 3 is easily one of my favorite games of the year and I’ll probably be playing it well into next year as well. It’s definitely easy to mention that SSX 3 is the best snowboarding title out there and will definitely be giving 1080 Avalanche a run for its money this holiday season. If you’ve been a fan of the series, you’ll undoubtedly have already picked up this title and good on ya, mate! If you’ve ever played an SSX title or have even been vaguely interested, check it out. If you’ve played Tony Hawk and might be looking for something to hold your interest after playing through Underground a couple of times, check out SSX 3. While it has a few development faults, there’s nothing that should hold you back from checking this one out.

From its mile-high drops to its outlandish tricks, the SSX series is renowned for its larger-than-life experience. With the release of the third installment, that’s all about to change. Rather than being remembered as a title that has a lot of character and visual flair, SSX 3 will instead be remembered for its gameplay. It’s still laden with over-the-top escapades, but it now has depth within its play.

PlayStation 2IGN
There should be no confusion this year. EA's "Let's wipe the slate clean" perspective is apparent in every powdery hill, in each of the mountain's three enormous peaks, in the characters' silky smooth animations, and in the gargantuan level of new tricks. Eveything is carefully crafted to ensure that in 2003, the self-effacing titled SSX 3 would speak volumes. And boy does it. The newly formed blister on my right thumb, that lovely sense of bewilderment at having spent too many nights awake late playing it, and my oh-so-patient wife are witnesses to them all.

If you're like me, and you just skimmed up to this section, then all you need to know is buy this game. Now. After the overwhelming success of SSX Tricky, SSX 3 had monstrous expectations to meet, not only does it meet them, it slams them head on like a Mack truck into a flea. Aside from the one problem I had with the characters each having the same skill levels and skill potential, SSX 3 is an instant classic and should be owned by anyone that likes video games.

If you’re an extreme sports fan, you owe it to yourself to check out SSX 3. This game has exceeded my expectations far beyond my belief. The sheer amount of depth put into the single player experience is quality gaming you just can’t find in many other titles in today’s sports genre. There really is not much one can complain about with SSX 3, but like always, Xbox Live is the one ingredient that has been left out of this masterpiece. Nevertheless, you can’t go wrong with SSX 3, and I’m sure that there are many gamers that will fully agree with me. Don’t wait around and miss out on one of EA’s best titles of the year.

PlayStation 2Netjak
Overall, SSX 3 is a class act from top to bottom. There is plenty to keep a player busy from beginning to end, and is easy to recommend as a purchase to any extreme sports game fan. There are very few gaming moments that I can remember that were more exhilarating than crossing the finish line of a peak race challenge with only seconds to spare. SSX 3 truly accomplishes what Tony Hawk’s Underground could not: It manages to simultaneously change and retain the series’ formula, resulting in a completely new game that blows away its predecessors. If you’ve ever enjoyed an SSX game, or any extreme sports game for that matter, you owe it to yourself to pick up SSX 3. If you haven’t, give this game a try; it may just convert you… To the max!

PlayStation 2PSX Extreme
SSX3 might not be the best choice for people craving extremely realistic sports simulators, but for the rest of us, this is the best snowboarding game ever. With the huge variety of game modes, this game will last a long, long time. And when you're done with humiliating the computer A.I., you can go online with the PS2 version and race against human opponents. Only for a head-to-head match, sure, but it's a great alternative to headache-inducing splitscreen action. EA might not have reinvented the wheel with this one, but the huge amount of fun you'll get out of it kind of makes up for that. Uber satisfying.

When I started seriously playing this game, I knew I liked SSX 3. But I didn't love it and I wasn't sure I was going to. With so many games to review and play all the time, I have to be picky and even then many games slide right by. But I grabbed this game from Kaiser and for the last week have played it non-stop. Much to my delight, I do indeed love it. Honestly, what is there not to adore about it?

PlayStation 2GameZone
Flying down the peak, the snowboarder jumps into the air and spins around three times. He grabs the board from several locations, switching seamlessly between each move like it was a natural reflex. Crossing the finish line in record time creates an overabundance of excitement from the audience. Everyone is amazed by what this guy has done. But all you can say is, "His form was a little off."

What more to say? There is simply no reason why you shouldn't get this game. It offers everything a gamer would want in a game, and then more. I've played with this game more than any other this generation, and I still have fun with it. Show EA some love on the cube and go get this game right now!
93
GameCubeIGN
All of the new features are significant yet very subtly implemented ones. The board presses turn this game into a freestyle, line-heavy trick-a-thon. The handplants literally enable players to get to new heights. And the triple tier Ubers shove SSX 3 once again into the top list of most desirable extreme sports games on the planet.

In the early days of the PS2, one of the first true hits that really showed off the power of the new platform was a snowboarding title by EA’s newest studio, EA Sports BIG, SSX. Although EA Sports had made its living off making most of its sports titles deliver a true simulation of the sport it was depicting, EA Sports BIG decided to go a different direction.

This game will make all you parents tired, as you watch your children bounce up and down while they control the physical safety of their favorite character. The tunes in this game are clean, addictive, and fun. You will even enjoy watching the loading screens. The entertainment of pulling off the 'Worm' on a snowboard 70 feet above the air is like no other. Turning off your system will be almost as hard as separating with your teen age love...and could in fact lead to just that if you don't keep a clock in the same room. This game is a blast, and a must have for everyone. I hope you have found this information helpful in the likes of where your next 50 bucks will be going.

SSX 3 also adds the ability to do a nose press, which functions much like a manual in the Tony Hawk games and is primarily used to link tricks for big combo points. It’s pretty easy to use and its only major drawback is that it messes up your turning a little. Once you figure it out and start linking tricks, your scores move into the stratosphere. You can also pull off handplants, but these aren't particularly useful. Like SSX Tricky, the PS2 control edges out the Xbox and Gamecube due to the easier-to-reach four shoulder buttons.

It also sounds terrific, thanks to a good, varied soundtrack and great effects. Tying it together is the EA Big Radio station, which advances the thin story of you becoming a hotshot and gives witty, fun updates on the track conditions and how things are going on the circuit. And if you ask me, things are going just peachy for EA Big’s star pupil. SSX 3 is the best in the series so far and is an easy recommendation for vets and newbies alike. Though the gameplay is still mostly the same as it ever was, the awesome new mode and fantastic delivery crown a new king of the mountain.

This is my personal favourite SSX game, don’t get SSX: On Tour as they took out everything that made it good. If you are a fan of extreme sports give it a whirl, there should be no reason not to like it.

This game will please everyone accustomed to the SSX arcade-style snowboarding. It’s easy to learn and fun to play, and you don’t have to be a pro to pull off some insane moves. To be perfectly honest, though, I’d recommend SSX3 to everyone, snowboarding fan or not. The crazy air and outstanding tricks you can pull off are great stress releases whether playing solo or with a few friends. As a result, it’s a good addition to any holiday list, and it doubles as a great way to unwind after a few hours of stressful holiday shopping.

In fact it’d be hard to find fault with what has been put into SSX3. Perhaps it would be easier to criticise what other games have that SSX3 doesn’t. It would have been great to see some online play via Xbox live, but with EA and Microsoft locked in deadly combat over the these issues, that was never going to happen. So if it’s an online snowboard experience you were looking for you’re going to be tempted away by Amped 2. It would have been nice to be able to customise the soundtrack. The quibbles aside, SSX3 stands up as a fantastic game that would take a proud place on any action sports gamers shelves.

Sequels are ubiquitous these days, so to find one, which builds so expertly on what's come before, offering enough for old and new gamers alike is truly something to get excited about. If you have a distinct aversion to "baggy pants" sports games or quiver at the sign of complex control schemes then you'll probably want to pass, but even for the most ardent extreme sports enthusiast, this is an essential purchase. And to any actual snowboarders out there currently snorting in derision - get over your preconceptions, because we feel sure you'd take relentless entertainment over realism any day of the week, and that's what SSX 3 offers.

Finally, to all those that want to wait until the game drops to 20 bucks, you don't know what you're missing. This game is a lot more than just a minor revamp of Tricky. And for those that don't want to try it because it's a "sports" game, you're nuts. I rarely play sports games outside of a few soccer titles and I love this game. You don't have to be a snowboarding fan, or even a sports fan, to enjoy this game. It's great single or multiplayer fun.

When it comes to snow-boarding, this particular reviewer definitely isn’t one to call on for tips and tricks. Vaguely can I recall the event that took place atop a snowy peak a few hours from my hometown. I can also remember some overconfidence, a concealed tree root, and a sprained wrist. What one can sum up from this assembly of mishaps is a sense of unwanted realism. An attribute that we try to avoid when playing anything belonging to the extreme sports genre. Being able to defy gravity, exceed speeds of 60 MPH, and pull off a 1080 all while playing the board like a guitar, is definitely something we’d all enjoy dreaming about. SSX 3 continues EA Sports’ excellent arcade oriented series, adding plenty of new features, all the while keeping the premise surprisingly simple.

SSX 3 delivers a rush like few racing games or action sports games have ever achieved. The game's new, open-ended structure, excellent audio, enhanced trick system, and improved graphics combine to make this a superlative sequel to a series that's always had high standards. Overall, SSX 3 is a lovingly crafted work of art that perfectly captures the exhilaration of make-believe snowboarding while making good on every other element of videogame goodness. The lack of fantastical obstacles and other Tricky-exclusive elements is admittedly missed, but the inclusion of so many other excellent improvements makes you quickly forget that this ain’t Tricky. One of the best games of the holiday season.

In my view, then, the Xbox version narrowly edges it, because I'll take smoothness of gameplay over a gimmick any day. Your mileage may vary, but if you have the choice, I would recommend the Xbox title. Otherwise, just buy the sodding game - it's one of the best of the year.

The thrill of purposely flinging oneself down a mountainside is captured like never before in SSX 3, the third entry in the popular snowboarding series that originally debuted on the PlayStation 2 in 2000. While SSX 3 doesn't fundamentally change the series' signature gameplay, which combines near-vertical downhill racing with a completely over-the-top trick system, it does change the structure of the game by offering a freeform, open-ended environment to experience, compete in, and explore. This huge, fully realized snow-covered mountain provides some incredible scenery and no shortage of high-speed entertainment. Fans of SSX should have expected as much, though this is a game that is highly recommended not only for veterans but for novices.

So there we have it, nothing much has changed, and so much the better, for it is the simple arcade elements that SSX 3 embodies so perfectly, that help make the third as fresh and fun as previous titles. Those who like their games rich and involving need not apply, equally those with poor reflexes and a hatred of loud music might also be best looking elsewhere. For its many fans however, the latest SSX will be frozen heaven on a stick.

Overall, I recommend this game not only to snowboarding enthusiasts, but to anyone who wants a game with the sense of speed, the ability to pull insane, uber tricks or the feel and ability to speed down a mountain with various ways to choose from. EA Sports Big has done an excellent job on this game. Highly recommended.

When all is said and done, SSX 3 is a worthy successor to its brothers, taking a step forward in scope but holding the player's hand too much when landing 2160s.

While the only Snowboarding game worth owning on the GameCube, up to this point, has been SSX Tricky, SSX 3 easily replaces its predecessor. It’s an improvement in every way imaginable, providing the best Snowboarding experience currently available on any console, and also one of the best Extreme Sports titles alongside Tony Hawk’s Underground.

It is fortunate that the SSX line of video games is still doing very well. The have that special “It” factor that is required to make a quality, fun video game. Even though it is not quite as much a so-called “party” game, there is still plenty to do for just one person. I would say that this game ranks up somewhere between a borrow (for an extended period of time) and a buy, however, if you are a fan of the SSX line of games, it is easily a must-have.

One consequence of having so many options is a very confusing navigational system. You can access certain areas through menus, but others you are required to "ski to", which is a real hassle. Saving your game is needlessly confusing, and is NOT the same as saving your "records". I have one last criticism that applies to all the SSX games in general - the turbo is pretty weak. It's really not worth it to perform risky tricks during races to earn turbo. I found that avoiding tricks altogether is probably more effective when it comes to winning races. But other than that, SSX3 is still by far the best snowboarding game available.

SSX3 is a very good game, but I don't think the perfect example of extreme winter sports. It's still possible to get stuck in scenery at times and have to use the reset-rider button – which is annoying. The other problem is that although the mountain is supposedly very open it is all too easy to leap from areas that are out of bounds yet not signposted. Other than that, it's a great fun packed game that does exactly what it says on the tin.

This isn't really my kind of thing at all but I loved it to bits. The graphics are funky and chunky and the sound is very good indeed. Okay, it's not the most realistic of sports games but that's missing the point. This is about leaping around on a plank while falling down a mountain and it's ace at capturing the feeling of big jumps and vast scenery. It'd definitely a winner.

Overall a complete new game has arisen from EA you could say and snippets of the last 2 games have been stuck in to say it is indeed SSX 3. This is a great snowboarding game to play but players of the last 2 games may not feel as comfortable as they did with the last 2 games, but for the third in the series a good effort.

An amazing and complex arcade snowboard game with loads to do and a huge mountain to explore. If you are new to the series, however, or just crap at this sort of game, be prepared for immense initial frustration - the learning curve is SUPER steep. If that doesn't put you off, pick it up!

XboxGamestyle
Gamestyle would have preferred a more progressive method of ability levelling (a la Tony Hawk Underground), but as it is the 'buy-stats' system seems to work just fine. Whilst not offering a huge amount over what's already gone before, SSX 3 keeps itself firmly within arcade boundaries of play (and as such, leaves Amped 2 and 1080 2 to cover the more sim-based side of mechanics) and is therefore a welcome addition to the genre if you're into arcade snowboarding. If you've got Tricky, you'll find more of the same without the clarity of the level design and structure - but if you're new to the series and just want some fast action, you'll probably love everything there is about it, so enjoy!

The promise of the EA Big label has been fulfilled in the SSX series, and SSX 3's calmer nature has paid off. With the extensive range of characters and events, and to a lesser extent the extras available for purchase from the lodges, owners of the previous versions will find plenty of new things in SSX 3 to justify its purchase. This is the best of the series, and outstanding value at only $79.95 (NZD).

SSX 3 is everything an extreme sports game should be - accessible, great fun, and with enough attitude to make you feel like a total badass every time you play it. Just make sure you run a warm bath - it's so cool you'll need to fend off severe hypothermia.

PlayStation 2Bordersdown
Undeniably though, is the fact that SSX 3 is really great fun, and another step up from the series’ previous instalments. Though little has changed in terms of the game’s goal, the scope and variety of things to do on the mountains is a welcome change. New additions like the ‘big challenges’ - short, sharp bursts of intense gameplay - work well in the game’s favour. Despite the barrage of events and opportunities thrown in the player’s face from almost the word go, the fact that you can ignore them all and simply spend half an hour cruising down the mountainside is something admirable and almost elegant. SSX3 is a great game, and while a few things let it down, the overall polish, shine and atmosphere are evidence that EA’s reputation for mediocrity is changing for the better. With a slew of titles all suddenly competing for supremacy, one thing is for certain, SSX 3 will impress.

SSX 3 is fantastic, despite a few small issues. It can be oddly frustrating at times, yet it has enough merit to make it one of my favorite games this year. It doesn't necessarily refresh the nostalgia I had when it was SSX two releases ago, but it definitely re-introduces the fun lacking in the gaming slump I've experienced lately. With a solid array of courses and the addition of online rivalry, SSX 3 is very rewarding and, more importantly, ultimately fun.

If you don't get annoyed by the awful voice acting and try not to wonder towards any invisible walls this title is tremendous fun and more often than not utterly exhilarating. The positives far outshine any negative you will come across and this is without doubt the best snowboarding title on the GameCube. Big fun, big tricks and an even bigger game, top notch stuff from EA.
