SSX does have a couple of tiny rough spots. The frame rate drops a little from time to time, but it doesn't affect the gameplay. Also, getting the gold in some of the later Showoff runs can seem impossibly difficult, but perseverance pays off, and you never feel like it's not worth the effort. These are minor flaws in what is otherwise one of the most well designed and exciting racing games I've ever played. This is the stuff that dreams are made of, and no true gamer should miss out on the ride.

I cannot stress enough how much fun I have had while playing this game. I’ve always been somewhat inclined towards PC games over platforms, but SSX has done a decent job of converting me. For example, I picked up both Sacrifice and Giants: Citizen Kabuto over the holidays - I’ve played neither of them for nearly two weeks, as I’ve been spending almost every spare moment I’ve had in snowboarding heaven. Friends of mine who don’t even play games as a rule have been caught up with what I’ve come to call “SSX Fever”. If you have a PS2, you need to own SSX, plain and simple; if you don’t, this game, unavailable on any other platform, is actually worth forking out the cash for the PS2, just so that you can play it. It’s that good.

After playing SSX for about 5 hours non-stop and about 12 hours total, I can safely say that the game is the number one launch game to get. I want to make a brief apology if I caused any confusion with my "Top 5 Launch Games To Get" article, I should have put the following games in this order: 5) Smuggler's Run, 4) Summoner, 3)Unreal Tournament/TimeSplitters, 2) Madden NFL 2001, 1) SSX. That was my mistake and I take full credit if I misled anybody, the Summoner hype got to me and I never truly realized the sheer excitement that SSX would turn out to be. I'm not saying Summoner is a bad game, it's actually a very good game, although it does have its problems. All in all, SSX, best game at launch, go buy it!

SSX is a terrific snowboarding game that has all the right stuff. Every element comes together and makes for a game that is extremely fun and rewarding to play. The graphics will make you shake your head in disbelief even after a month of playing it, the sound effects can actually convey a sense of texture, and the music will have you figuring out the best way to hook your PS2 up to your computer to record the soundtrack. It's also a very challenging game that at times crosses the line of frustration, a line that you're sure to be more than happy to cross time and time again since the game is extremely rewarding when you do well.

Right off the top, SSX is one of the top three titles you should get launch day, and for the holiday season as well. The game is so magnificent, and so beautiful and amazing, that you'll perhaps never play another snowboard title. It is that good.

Cool Boarders, 1080, Pure Ride, whatever. The snowboarding genre has never seen a game as good as SSX and sad reality is that the chances are that it'll probably never see one that's better unless it happens to be surpassed by its sequel. The plain and simple truth is that SSX is really more than just a snowboarding game, as it does much more than any other game in the genre has accomplished before it. SSX is a brilliant blend of fast-paced racing with high-flying trick performing, blended together so beautifully that it has produced a game that feels completely original and in a class all of its own.

SSX’s gameplay is definitely Cool Boarders 2, but the controls are much smoother, and the graphics…oh the graphics are just simply amazing. From fireworks that explode in an array of colors in the jump zones to the little added touches like snow machines putting out a fine mist of freshly made powder, it makes it hard to believe SSX is a first-generation title. The courses themselves are absolutely insane. Not only are they incredibly long, they feature some majorly twisted designs with lots of shortcuts and massive jumps. The amazing thing is, the music might be its best feature. The interactive soundtrack mixes tunes for you on the fly, pumping you up for close competition and mellowing out during the easy rides. When all is said and done, SSX is brilliant. Definitely pick this one up.

1080° move over!

If there is one must-own game for the PS2, SSX would be it. Even at its price tag of $50, this is one game that is worth the cost, and worth the $300 for the PS2. Only the king of extreme sports in Tony Hawk can match the extreme intensity that SSX delivers. But since we have to wait awhile for Tony to come to PS2, this is the game to own if you're the lucky few to own a PS2 now. There is no other snowboarding game that even remotely comes close in comparison.

SSX doesn't try to break new gameplay ground so much as perfect what's already been attempted. To be honest, it does a damn good job. With excellent graphics, great level design and fast, furious action, this is sitting firmly at the top of the PS2 mountain.

Snowboarding has never been represented in such a positive light. I've never had as much sustained fun with a 'sports' title, and ultimately, this is as good as the PlayStation has got to give at the moment. Buy it, and lose entire weeks to it.

SSX is hands down one of the best games, if not the best game, out for the PS2. Blending amazing graphics, musical score and sound effects, this exuberant take on snowboarding is a feast for the senses. The gameplay sticks its landing as well by offering up some of the most outrageous moves and courses ever found in this already extreme sport. Whether racing down the frozen back streets of snowed in Merqury City or riding the excessive rails in Pipe Dreams, the environments are so fantastic that they could never be reproduced in reality. In fact, SSX is one of those titles that has thrown the constraints of “realistic” gameplay out the window to deliver fast, fun, and addictive gameplay. It succeeds in almost every account, stumbling only in its tame multiplayer and predictable AI opponents. Ultimately, this game is all about you, the board and miles and miles of snow waiting to be carved with extreme prejudice.

When it comes time to decide what the best launch game for the PS2 was, gamers will be torn between this and Madden 2001. A tie could alays be agreed upon, but that idea is no fun. It doesn't matter which one you pick, as both games are must-buys, no questions asked. Make sure you buy this one with your console.

SSX is a great title for PlayStation 2 fans to build a gaming library around. It delivers in almost every department, and though it doesnt provide any sort of breakthrough experience, it is an all-around solid title.

Fun garantiert SSX ganz klar.

At the end of the day, what players are left with is a title that caters for all walks of life and allows for considerable replay due to its variety and depth. Consider this a must buy.

The courses are the star here, but you'll have to win your way through tournaments to open them up, which is easier said than done. Some courses, like the night city skyscraper track, are absolutely terrific, but EA went off the deep end with some of the later ones. The last one is more like a funhouse than a ski slope, and it's more confusing than fun.
