Star Control II

Such a detailed universe map, combined with adventure, strategy and action makes Star Control 2 one of the most diverse games out there, and also one of the most engaging and entertaining ones. I think it is definitely one of the best games ever made and should not be missed.

No game has successfully ties in all the genres like this game did, and no game probably ever will. After the disaster that was Star Control 3, it's unlikely that it'll get remade, since I think Accolade still owns all the rights to it. Also, the original developers, Toys for Bob are going to work on something new. Something called Minions, which they've said would be like "Star Control 2 in a fantasy setting". I can only hope.

Star Control II is an incredibly deep strategy game. This game is so deep, you should get college credits for finishing it! The 3-D rendered graphics of the alien worlds are beyond belief. The far-out landscapes and cosmic creatures are fantastic - better than recent sci-fi movies. (Heck, I think lately the best science fiction can be seen in the computer and video games and not at the movies, but I digress.) The voice acting is cheesy at times, but besides this one flaw, Star Control II has long-term play value with an entire galaxy to explore.

Surprisingly I like this version! I've seen the PC version, but this 3DO import blows it out of the water. The enhanced graphics really caught me eye. Of course the CD-quality sounds are definitely a plus for standards. Even though the sounds were great, it was hard listening to the other aliens trying to speak in English. The Versus Mode is still kept intact. If you love the PC version, you'll love this game.

Was kann mit so einem bewährten Spielsystem schon schiefgehen. Reiche hat ausgiebigst Starflight kopiert, das Ganze mit einem ausgereiften Strategieteil vermischt und alles mit ansprechend schönen Raumgrafiken und Spacesounds vermischt. Trotzdem ist's kein pures Plagiat, sondern wird durch die gelungene Mischung und Neuverarbeitung von Bewährtem zum eigenständigen Abenteuer. Besonders erfreulich, daß der Computer eine echte Herausforderung ist und die Schiffsduelle nicht im Vorbeimarsch gewonnen werden. Durch die Kombinationsmöglichkeiten der Flotte gibt's Kurzweil satt. Auch wer den Rollenspielteil gelöst hat, kommt so noch in den Genuß eines ernsthaften Raumkampfsimulators für zwei Piloten.

This nicely crafted outer-space adventure definitely challenges the space between your ears. If you're into sci-fi and strategy games, Star Control II should keep you under control for days.

Das große Jahrhundert-Spiel, das sich jeder unbedingt zulegen muß, ist Star Control 2 nicht geworden. Sofern man sich für eine Mischung aus Action und Rollenspiel begeistern kann, bietet es aber professionelle Qualität, viele Gags und genug Spieltiefe für ein paar spannende Wochenenden. Bevorzugt Liebhabern von Science-Fiction-Stories zu empfehlen.

Basically, what it comes down to is Star Control 2 could've been the 'must have' title on the 3DO. It was non-linear ahead of its time, and had so many options, that simply cannot be explored. The best solution is to get Ur-Quan masters for your PC, and try to mess with it so you don't have a damn clock. Then you'd have a genuine winner.
