Just RPG
This is easily one of the best games of the original Playstation. I worked hard to find my copy of this game and, trust me, it was no easy task. In the end, I had to have one of my friends in Michigan send it to me because she never played it anymore. So good luck to all of you who decide to try it out. You might be able to find it somewhere on ebay (but I'm not sure what kind of price tag it carries). For those of you lucky people who happen to find it or already have it, you have a great game in your hands that will have replay value for months if not years to come.

The bottom line is that Star Ocean: Second Story is a worthy game that you will not regret buying. With interesting combat, fun extra gameplay elements, good graphics and AMAZING music, SO2 is a must-play for any RPG fan. The game would get an even higher score if not for the somewhat lame dialogue.

In the end, Star Ocean is a one-of-a-kind game. It's so full of optimization that's it's bound to be one of the classics for PlayStation. It stands out from the rest in several areas, the integral Item Creation, group spells, Custom Combinations, Individual Skills, and the many characters that can be played throughout. If you like old-school looking RPGs but want something new, Star Ocean is a quirky blend of both, with a great story to tell.

Star Ocean: Second Story is an engaging RPG that ranks up there with the likes of Xenogears and Suikoden, with the storyline leading you on an incredible journey that's not as flashy as some, but certainly more substantial than others. With at least 50 hours of gaming in each character's scenario, Star Ocean might not be compelling enough to play through twice, but the first time is as engaging as any RPG you're likely to play. Highly recommended in any case.

Star Ocean looks to be the best of the summer RPGs (among Lunar and Shadow Madness). While it doesn't provide the graphical flash of Final Fantasy 8, it delivers a different graphical beauty that feels warmer than the all too familiar polygonal experience. It's got a good story that sadly weakens at the end; though there's just enough steam left to get you through. However, whether you'd want to replay 30-35 hours of it again just for a slightly different ending scene is doubtful. While not the perfect RPG I've been waiting for, it's not a bad choice.

Star Ocean är ett underligt men ganska skojigt RPG som vi utan tvivel kunde ha rekommenderat om det inte vore för den usla dialogen. Hur ofta säger ni "!" och "..." när ni snackar med kompisarna?

All around, even if you aren’t a huge fan of RPGs, Star Ocean the second story is such a good one that you might find you enjoy it anyway (Oh yea, RPG fans should hunt for this game like there’s no tomorrow. The end.)

In the end, Star Ocean shows that you can't go back to the past. The industry, for better or worse, is moving towards full-motion video and elaborate pre-rendered backgrounds as a minimum in cutting-edge RPGs. Star Ocean delivers in that department but then it leaves out the most crucial element: a compelling story. The story is predictable and unimaginative and little is done to move the story forward any faster than at a snail's pace. The game is subpar with a few good points, but none of which are really strong enough to warrant a look. This game could have been so much more but it simply isn't.
