Nevertheless, SFC remains an outstanding game, and anyone who enjoys RTS games, FPS games and the Star Trek genre, as well as veterans of SFB, should do themselves a favor and buy this game. They won’t be disappointed.
Gamer's Pulse
In conclusion, SFC is a simply terrific game. It looks sharp, it sounds sharp, and it plays sharp. I highly recommend it. Star Trek fans, let it be known - the curse is broken! There is finally a Star Trek game worth getting!
Game Revolution
Starfleet Command is the best attempt to date to port the venerable board game "Starfleet Battles" to the computer. For those that aren't familiar with the old pencil-and-paper game, imagine this. You, a bunch of people, a small hex map, dozens of pieces of graph paper, little cardboard cut-outs, dice, and enough game manuals to fill up a bookcase. Arguments galore about which rule takes precedence over which manual (I laugh at Magic the Gathering rules. So simple in comparison). A single turn taking over an hour to complete. Death threats against felines for disturbing the carefully orchestrated and arranged pieces.

If you believe that details really make a game, then this is the game for you. There's so much to love in this game if you're a fan of Star Fleet Battles or just love wargames (albeit a non-historical wargame) that this review can only scratch the surface of Starfleet Command. There's also plenty of value here, something missing from quite a few games that only last a few weeks on your system.
Computer Gaming World (CGW)
Unfortunately, some of that universe’s most familiar icons and scenarios appear to be available only on discs purchased directly from Interplay. This is a shame, because everyone ought to be able to take on the challenge of “Balance of Terror” or rest in the heart of a nebula when facing Khan. Bogus marketing schemes aside, this is a terrific game. Trek fans have waited a tong time for a computer game that captures the richness of the Star Trek universe. STARFLEET COMMAND is that game, and it is rich and deep enough to keep most of those fans busy until the next time the universe is endangered.
Electric Games
Good Star Trek games are a rarity, and Starfleet Command is one of the better ones. While the bugs are annoying, there is nothing that I found to be a game-stopper. The minor complaints I have could very well balance out in the game's best interest, depending on your point of view. For pure enjoyment purposes alone, I highly recommend this title, especially to the show's fans (even the detail-oriented) and those that have been disappointed by Star Trek titles in the past. Bottom Line: An excellent game that should please any Star Trek fan. The graphics and sound are extremely well done. The choice of groups and campaigns are designed with replayability in mind. Minor gameplay issues exist, as well as some minor to very annoying bugs. Despite these problems, I highly recommend this game.
In the end, Starfleet Command offers up one of the most innovative looks at the RTS game that I've seen in a really long time. Just about every strategy fan who has the patience to learn all the controls (and you have to read the manual here folks, the tutorials leave quite a bit of important stuff out) will be happy with the purchase of this game. With that said, I did have quite a few stability issues with this title (it kicked me out to Windows about a dozen times before I stopped counting) and it's frighteningly hard to learn if you're not patient. With those caveats in place, I highly recommend this title to everyone.
Game Watcher
This game has a somewhat steep learning curve, you really have to understand all the myriad capabilities of your ship, as well as your enemy to survive and prosper, but for the dedicated Star Trek fan its well worth it. Even if you just enjoy a tough battle, this game comes through, and it has excellent multiplayer support as well as many mods. I highly recommend it.

Gameplay (Benelux)

This is not to suggest that Starfleet Command isn't any fun. The huge array of options you're provided in battle - sending shuttles to attack enemies, reallocating power to meet the changing combat conditions, using tractors to hold incoming missiles at bay, and more - provide Starfleet Command with an unprecedented level of depth for a Star Trek game. Multiplayer Starfleet Command is also a real blast: Even with relatively high latencies on Mplayer, the action was smooth and satisfying. And the different multiplayer modes - base attack/defense, several variations on a "last man standing" theme, and a "pass the tribble" game where you attack enemies by beaming tribbles aboard their ships - meshed nicely with the game's complex tactics. But though you'll enjoy it for quite some time, you'll also realize that Starfleet Command could have spent more time in the dry dock before shipping to retail outlets.
I was eager to get my hands on this game, for two reasons: a) I have to admit that I am somewhat of a Trekkie at heart. It was either a choice between Star Trek or Gilligan's Island reruns as a kid and I think we're all happier it was Star Trek. b) Ever since my Apple IIe days, I've lived to get my hands on that next Star Trek simulator, hoping beyond all hope that the newest version would be better than the last! You remember them? ANSI character maps, where stars were indicated by a "*" and starbases were big letter "B's". Klingons would warp in as a blinking "K", shooting deadly "#" torpedoes in a harrowing display of action and suspense. Breathtaking!
Game Over Online
As I mentioned before, this game is not suited for everyone because of the difficulty level. It is a well thought out game, for those who enjoy the series. However for someone new to the Star Trek world, I would not recommend this game because it has a lot of depth to it, and an average gamer can get lost within the excess number of options available.
Adrenaline Vault, The (AVault)
There’s little doubt that Starfleet Command is one of the finest Star Trek games ever made, at least in a design sense, the end result being a tactical slugfest that just feels like starship combat between large, non-fighter vessels should. Unfortunately, there are two main factors that keep Starfleet Command from being the tour-de-force it could have been. The first is the complexity. Now, I’m not one to complain about a game being too in-depth, but this one may be a bit of overkill, especially considering some of the gaping holes in the documentation. The almost-vertical learning curve in command and control may be too much for even some experienced gamers. The second problem is the aforementioned bevy of bugs. If Interplay can do the kind of repair job that Scottie used to do on the old Enterprise, they’ll have a resounding success on their hands. As it stands, it remains a near-great effort that, despite its flaws, remains quite fun for those with a high tolerance for minutiae.
