A stunning debut for the 32X, with a great feel and atmosphere. A whopper with extra relish for those who like their action-to-go.

Star Wars Arcade is by far the best of the first crop of 32X games and an outstanding achievement. Fans of the movie won't be disappointed either.

The eight new 32X stages are imperative to increasing the replay value, since the arcade only featured four levels. Still, challenging though the levels may be, the game won't last long in the hand's of most players. It's a thrill-a-second ride while it lasts, but how long is that gonna be?

Yuk. Taz tunes...yeah! Smooth fast polygons, two views and fast fun gameplay. I'll excuse the tunes because the sound effects are great and I know they had to rush. Star Wars is very close to the expensive coin-op. Sega delivers.

Star Wars Arcade definitely showcases what can be done with the Genesis 32X module, and surely is a worthy addition to one's library. With more realistic flight gameplay, this game could have been much more fun instead of frustrating. Any chance Sega will port Star Wars Trilogy Arcade to a current console and put a truly enhanced version of this game in there? We can only hope...

I'll admit that I never played this game in the arcade. I never found an instalation near where I lived, and the one unit I did see was so busy that after waiting and watching for 20 minutes, I gave up and went to play something else. The 32X translation seems pretty good visually, and I would have to say that this is one of the very few games that I would even consider owning for the platform. Playcontrol was decent, sound was very good... It's to bad this game wasn't bumped over to the Saturn so that more people could play it.

Tough controls will have your hand cramping in no time, but some nice graphics and cool digitized sound bytes straight from the film (although God knows where they got Admiral Ackbar's voice) make this a good one for Star Wars fans.

Unfortunately, the other missions aren't so hot. It may look great as you approach a Star Destroyer or Death Star, but the gameplay subsequently takes a turn for the worse. The framerate slows to a crawl and your ship becomes difficult to control as it absorbs hit after hit. Hitting the side of a trench sends you caroming off the walls like a pinball. Looking back, I wonder how I could have possibly completed that Star Destroyer stage. The background music and sound effects are very good, especially the distinct sounds of zooming Tie fighters. A two-player option lets one player steer while the other shoots, but it's nothing to write home about. Despite its flaws, I enjoy Star Wars Arcade, and would rank it as one of the best titles for the 32X.

As a Star Wars fan, I was depressed to see how this one turned out. Oh sure, the movement of the ships is smooth and pretty cool, but you are extremely limited in where you can fly, you can't perform 360 degree loops to avoid enemy fire and the game is just plain repetitive. I'll give the game credit because it is one of the first out for the 32X, but as it stands, Star Wars Arcade doesn't live up to my high expectations.
Star Wars Arcade is one of the better games for the 32X, which isn’t saying too much since the add-on's legacy is an industry joke. Played through the prism of 1994, though, you can see the incredible promise of actually having SEGA's 3D arcade games at home, even if it was a short experience. If you're a dead system collector with a soft spot for the 32X, Star Wars Arcade is one of the three must-haves for the add-on.

The original Star Wars movie is nearly 20 years old, so a new 32X game ought to keep that great tale fresh. Unfortunately, a few sessions with Star Wars Arcade is like a Carbon Freeze. Lose the Force, Luke!
For the longest time, it's been an unwritten rule that virtually anything bearing the Star Wars label will sell like hotcakes. Some titles have fared better than others, but there have been relatively few stinkers in the line up. Just about every console has benefited from this golden touch of licensing, and the 32X was no exception, actually playing a major part in Sega's fortunes during the 1994 holiday season. Having almost nothing with which to counter the sales juggernaut that was Donkey Kong Country, Sega's decision to make Star Wars Arcade a 32X launch title helped soften the blow. As former Sega producer Eric Quakenbush put it, "Star Wars [Arcade] really saved their bacon that Christmas."
SEGA 32XPower Unlimited
SEGA 32XDefunct Games
Star Wars Arcade was one of the launching titles of the 32X, together with Doom and Virtua Racing Deluxe. Star Wars is a decent version of the arcade game released by Sega in 1993. It is also possible to play a new "32X Mode" which offers new levels and items.
SEGA 32XAll Game Guide
Overall, this game is average at best. If you really want a good Star Wars game where you do the same things, play X-Wing on the computer. However, if you're out for some fast-paced TIE fighter eradication, you could be hooked on Star Wars Arcade for a while.

Inget djup i grafiken! Dålig hantering av 32X:ens möjligheter. Gör bättre ifrån er nästa gång, Lucas Arts, snälla!
