Oddly enough, the two-player cooperative mode is not immediately available (need to unlock). A half-way decent versus mode is also included. I have to say I'm fairly pleased with how Episode 3 turned out. The attractive graphics, intense battles, and tight control keep you wanting to see what the next stage has in store. Star Wars fans who crave action should find this worth their while.

George Lucas finally wraps up his epic Star Wars tale with the release of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. Easily the most-anticipated movie of the year, it wasn't surprising to hear that a video-game adaptation would be hitting store shelves. What is surprising, though, is just how entertaining the game turned out to be.

The best spoiler ever, but not the best game. Why read online reports when you can get the gist of the story (and see some incredible sequences) right now? The game is short and easy, so you can get to each movie sequence pretty quickly. That also means that, once you've seen the clips and desire good gameplay, you don't have anything to look forward to except more of the same. The gameplay is great, it gets old very, very quickly. Pressing the same two buttons repeatedly for four or five hours cannot possibly be fun for anyone. There's gotta be more to it than that.

Unless you're a completist who simply has to own everything Star Wars, I cannot recommend Revenge of the Sith for a full purchase. The game can be completed in about 4 -5 hours, and replaying it really has little value. On the other hand, on a rainy weekend or during some down time, Revenge of the Sith might make for a great rental. There's certainly a lot of action, and the lightsaber duels can be rather exciting—especially the final Anakin/Obi-Wan fight. In truth, the game is just like the movie. It's got blockbuster action, but after it's over, you talk about it briefly and then go on with your life. If you're looking to make a Star Wars game purchase, you'd fare better with Star Wars Battlefront or maybe even LEGO Star Wars, which was more fun and had more to offer than this game did.

Like a poorly-executed Jedi Mind Trick, Episode III tries to distract you from its repetitiveness by drawing attention to a universally frustrating combat system, lousy AI, and an overall blandness that makes Masters of Teras Kasi look like a timeless classic. I would rather be a bumbling vice admiral under Darth Vader's command than spend an more time with this bedsore of the Force.

PlayStation 2Worth Playing
In the end, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith isn't an entirely respectable game. It's obviously been slapped together from action sequences in the film to make a complimentary game and hopefully some easy cash, but on its own, it's less than stellar. Not only does playing the game offer a limited, messy, albeit spoiler-ridden view of the storyline, it just isn't much fun to play through. This is the very definition of a Star Wars beat-'em-up. It has its moments, but really, this game won't last you much more than five hours. Seeing as the movie is half that length, but only one-fifth the price and a whole lot more fun to watch, isn't there an obvious choice here?

Last month's Lego Star Wars may go down in history as the only Star Wars game based specifically within the storylines of George Lucas' recent prequels to actually be any good. This somewhat disheartening statement is solidified by the most recent game based on one of the films, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox. Revenge of the Sith certainly had a great deal of potential, featuring lots of scenes taken directly from the film that currently isn't even out yet, lots of lightsaber dueling, and 16 missions based around action-packed sequences from the film (as well as a few bonus missions).

Star Wars Episode III could have been better, a lot better, but the developers have worked on the game well and used the movie and its features to the best that it was ever going to be used. The repetitive nature harms the game quite a bit and as such it can only be recommended to Star Wars fans or a rental for the casual fans.

Without question, the only suitable home for this game is in a molten river on Mustafar right next to Anakin's legs and arm.

Harnessing the true power of the dark side, Revenge of the Sith belts out a demented cackle as it unmercifully bastardizes the expectations of fan boys and applies a suffocating Force choke to people seeking a game ripe with respectable lightsaber action. LucasArts has made great strides as of late in diversifying the Star Wars license through different genres (Republic Commando, Knights of the Old Republic), and with this game, it has clearly taken a good hard look at Electronic Arts’ successful adaptation of The Lord of the Rings films. Sadly, LucasArts couldn’t come up with a game that delivered one midi-chlorian’s worth of entertainment.

Revenge of the Sith can be simple-minded fun if you don't expect much from it, especially if you've got someone to play the cooperative mode with, but it's far from the "ultimate Jedi action experience" the box claims it is.

Anticipation for the newest Star Wars movie is over the moon despite two disappointing prequels, so the decision to release a game with exclusive footage isn't so much shrewd as it is inevitable. This isn't the blatant middle finger that Enter the Matrix was, but it still leaves too much daylight between what it is and what it should've been.

I can't recommend this game as a purchase, rental, or as a free gift. The only gaming use I can find for this would be to in a museum display for the worst use of video game licenses, or as a cautionary tale about the woes of rushing a product to market.

But the game as a whole is not horrible, which comes as a relief in the same way the movie being un-horrible came as a relief. It's fun to run around the galaxy as a saber-flinging Jedi, cutting down droids by the score. But after a few minutes there's no point. It's too easy and extremely shallow when compared to other adventure games. It looks and plays just well enough to entertain Star Wars fans who relish interacting with the world of Lucas—nothing more.

Quite simply, Revenge... is the worst kind of Star Wars game - one that looks good enough to appeal to impulsive fans but ultimately fails to deliver by being horribly derivative, stale and linear example of the genre it so lazily falls into. We know it's not impossible to make a great Star Wars title -how hard can it really be?
