Beautifully drawn and animated, not to mention surprisingly involving, Revenge of the Sith should please any action gamer, Star Wars fan or not.

The bulk of the game still involves slicing endless droids with your light saber, but there are plenty of attack options including deflecting shots back towards enemies and using the Force to "push" enemies to the ground. Granted, Revenge of the Sith is still a button-masher at heart and it will wear on your thumb after extended play. Robots require more and more strikes to destroy as you progress, and that gets annoying. You can assume the roles of Anakin or Obi-Wan, each with his own branching storyline. With a nod to the old school, Star Wars Episode III is a worthy upgrade to the Gameboy Advance edition.

Most people will tell you to buy the DS version over the GBA version. I beg to differ. The GBA version is, in my opinion, fully equal to the DS version if not superior because you can play it on the big screen with the Game Boy Player, it has co-op multiplayer, it is cheaper, and, besides the space combat, it works the same as the DS version. As a fan of brawlers and Star Wars, I loved this game. However, for the casual gamer, it may get tedious. Keep that in mind if you’re going to drop on it. As a brawler, it’s top notch, so fans of Golden Axe, the Turtles series, and X-Men arcade game will be very pleased with the action in this title, especially if you’re a Star Wars fan.

While it does seem lazy that all the developers did was reprogram a game for the DS, at the very least, they picked a good one. The addition of the space levels is pulled off better than you would likely ever expect, and the beat-em-up segments are pure nostalgia. This just barely misses the mark of being the best DS game available due to a few bad design choices.

Revenge of the Sith may not go down as an all-time classic, but the innovative gameplay, excellent sound effects, and smooth graphics make it an enjoyable video game foray into the world of Star Wars. If you are a Star Wars fanatic, pick this game up, but do not expect to be blown out of the galaxy. Do expect, however, to have much more fun than sleeping in your Jar Jar Binks sleeping bag.

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith is a strong beat’ em up sidescroller with some amazing 3D starfighter missions on the side. It would make a solid addition to your DS collection and it’s great for Star Wars fans that want a Star Wars game on the go.

I’d be doing you a disservice if I didn’t mention that Revenge of the Sith for GBA and DS are mostly the exact same game. The GBA version has a two-player co-op mode (requires two cartridges) and retails for ten bucks less, so if you are mainly interested in the 2D beat-em-up gameplay, it’s probably the best one to get. The DS version includes a 3D space shooter mode that primarily serves as a multiplayer feature. If you’re mostly interested in that mode, read my review of the DS version and consider buying it instead of the GBA version. Either way, you’ll get a competent 2D beat-em-up with some welcome RPG-like character development features and several great bosses.

Overall, the GBA system gets a better-than-average action game, and the DS gets that same experience enhanced with console-style space combat. Solid stuff all around, but we'd easily take the DS version if faced with the choice.

"Revenge of the Sith" for the Nintendo DS is a real fun to play Star War game. It doesn't really use the touch screen capabilities much but nevertheless the 2D side scrolling game will never bore you. Graphics are alright and the music is just superb. Thankfully the developer also added the Space Combat mode, a mode where you enter a cockpit for some 3D dog fights. A GBA port with a few extras is what I call this DS version. If you already own the GBA game, then skip the DS since it's definitely not worth the money. If you don't own it and are a Star Wars or 2D-side scrolling freak, "Revenge of the Sith" is definitely your cup of tea (or game).

Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith for the GBA is a side-scrolling beat-'em-up that gives players the chance to kick and slash their way through two different variations of the film's story. Just like other games of its ilk, this isn't one that takes a long time to finish. Also, the combat is often formulaic and repetitive. To the game's credit, however, the characters have a hefty arsenal of attacks and Force powers, and the concern regarding length is dealt with somewhat by the customizable upgrades that you can earn and build upon by replaying levels.

Hacking up droids is mindless fun at first, but eventually you'll face tougher droids that require you to pound the heck out of them ad nauseum. Worst yet, the stages are tend to be long and boring with endless corridors. When the game throws the same set of five droids at you again and again (in the same room no less), enough is enough! Apparently the developers were attempting to artificially lengthen the game, but it really backfired. Even with its flaws however, Episode 3 does represent a big step up from previous Star Wars titles on the Gameboy Advance.

Ubisoft has also released a Nintendo DS version of the game, which features 3D space combat missions to break up the side-scrolling action. While the GBA version is certainly no slouch, the dual screen-enhanced version sits at only $10 more, and is worth the asking price. Gamers who haven't made the hardware jump just yet, however, will be more than content with what's offered. Revenge of the Sith is surprising in its quality, and fans should find this portable adventure to be the perfection companion to their Game Boy Advances as they sit in line waiting for the first showing's of the saga's epic conclusion.

[...] Die 2D-Laserduelle erinnern vom Spielablauf her sogar an "Lego Star Wars". Trotz orchestralem Soundtrack will hier aber nicht so richtig Spielspaß und "Star Wars"-Feeling aufkommen, was auch am schleppenden Ablauf liegt: Ständig beharken Euch lästige und mit der Zeit nervige Gegner. Ebenso schade: Die dreidimensionalen Raumschiff-Einsätze der DS-Version entfallen hier komplett - sonst gibt's keine Unterschiede.

Picture, if you will, that you've been introduced to the most powerful being in the galaxy. As you extend your hand in greeting, he flutters his eyelids longingly and levitates a piece of fruit to you. It would make for an uncomfortable, soul-shattering experience, much like playing this game is. Even the Jedi's so called "Chose One" cannot escape sloppy and overly repetitive hack 'n' slash gameplay.
