Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns is a truly excellent expansion pack. With added units, gameplay enhancements, two full-featured campaigns, graphical improvements and authentic new audio effects, Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns makes for a great gift this holiday season.
WindowsGameZone (May 30, 2002)
Since there are so many units life and death can occur within seconds. This means chaotic gameplay once the armies are established. The computer is always faster and more precise, but this just makes me want to win that much more. There have also been other enhancements that address the original games shortcomings, and added terrain and other options to the map editor. This sucker is just plain fun, and is the type of game that you can play over and over again and never get tired of it.

When a game comes out just in time for a movie, the tie-in is usually obvious and the lack of effort glaring. It's a quick cash-in, nothing more. But Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns is a full expansion, and the developers took care to offer an experience well worth the purchase price. Overall, you won't find anything truly different about Clone Campaigns, but that's generally not what expansion packs are all about. If you enjoyed the original game, then the expansion adds plenty more to keep you interested … or revive it if your interest was souring.
WindowsGameSpot (Belgium/Netherlands) (Jun 11, 2002)

For those who were of less than strong opinions about the original Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds, Clone Campaigns won't change anything. If you enjoyed SWGB, however, I highly recommend the this expansion pack. If multiplayer's your bag, this should add a few new tricks to your bag. If you just want an enjoyable set of strategic brainteasers to while away your evenings, that's here too. I didn't give a damn about the setting and the back story, but the great design won me over.

While I enjoyed playing Clone Campaigns, I find it hard to muster up a great deal of enthusiasm for the game. Maybe it has something to do with the pre-E3 crunch we normally experience. What's more likely is that the Age of Empires/Star Wars mix doesn't seem as fresh the second time around. While the engine was already a little behind others in terms of appearance last year, this year it looks even more dated. But graphics aren't the way I judge fun.

So I hated Clone Campaigns, right? Well, yes and no. I was certainly disappointed in the campaigns, and the tweaking of the original game didn’t impress me much, either. But Clone Campaigns runs on a pretty good (although old) engine, and it’s still fun to play. And if scenario designers out there take advantage of all the new units and buildings, then it might be worthwhile just for all the fan-created scenarios you’ll eventually get to play. But if you’re only interested in the campaigns or in multiplayer mode, then you might be better off just sticking with Galactic Battlegrounds and spending the extra money on watching Attack of the Clones three our four times.

It’s hard to argue with such a thorough retooling and expansion, however. The old game now plays and looks better, and the new campaigns provide 30-plus hours or interesting expert missions. Fans will enjoy it, and those unimpressed b the initial release might change their minds. I certainly did.

WindowsActionTrip (Jun 03, 2002)
It is obvious that Star Wars Battlegrounds: Clone Campaigns has a unique spark thanks to the inventive mission concepts and plot. Through it all, I'm still a Star Wars wacko and there's always that extreme feeling I cannot resist when those blasters start firing. Overall, it seems to me that players who have had fun with the original game will surely appreciate the great number of additional units (200) and the fact that they can replay the old campaigns with new available upgrades. However, this is hardly enough to give this game a very good score.
WindowsPC Games (Germany) (Jul 10, 2002)
WindowsGameSpot (May 30, 2002)
The game could have used better queuing of research, building, and unit orders. Broader distinctions among the civilizations would make them more vivid rather than all of this nickel-and-dime tuning. But instead of making the game better, Clone Campaigns seems intent on reminding us that this is very much a game of increments, with a 10 percent bonus here and a 5 percent penalty there. The original Galactic Battlegrounds was a good game in that it brought to life the epic sweep of battles in the Star Wars universe, but this expansion pack doesn't add much to that epic sweep.
