In late 2009,
Galaxies introduced new content/a cross-promotion with Joe Schreiber's
Star Wars novel
Death Troopers. Both the novel and the free game updates deal with a failed Imperial experiment that results in the creation of zombies.
In Game Update 13 (released September 30th, 2009), a series of pre-quests were introduced, setting up the backstory for mysterious activity inside a new "Quarantine Zone" on the planet Dathomir.
Game Update 14 (released October 12th, 2009, a day before the novel hit stores), the Quarantine Zone was opened up to players. A significant number of both zombie stormtroopers and quests lay inside, with challenges increasing in player level as players got closer to the center of the zone and the source of the infection.
Quests range from assisting survivors to destroying the plague and its associated research. Loot includes new vehicles, weapons, decorations/trophies, and sets of zombified Stormtrooper armor.
