As opposed to the overly obscure Morrowind, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic sports open-ended gameplay that never leaves the player without a sense of direction. Admittedly, the frame rate can become slightly unstable and parts of the interface are a little unintuitive, but these grievances are trivial in the overall scheme of things. BioWare has quelled any uncertainties as to their competency as a console developer, and the unparalleled success of this title should ensure a bright future for their non-PC aspirations. As for the game itself, Knights of the Old Republic is currently the best reason to own an Xbox, and will certainly be remembered as one of the system’s greatest offerings.

Of course, if you have no affinity for Star Wars, this one becomes hard to recommend. There is an absurd level of detail and backstory you can go into, but I have the feeling that the Old Republic’s version of things like the creation of the galactic races aren’t going to carry over beyond the Expanded Universe. If you’re not averse to some Jedi mysticism and spirited planet hopping, then this is easily one of the finest Star Wars games, and also one of the best modern Western RPGs. A gripping story, a fun (and scalable) combat system, and plenty of diverse locations and tasks make this one absolutely worth checking out for fans of the genre.

With Knights of the Old Republic, BioWare has
constructed a brilliant Star Wars tale—arguably the
best one since The Empire Strikes back. It captures
everything that was great about
those first films and
wraps it around a deep,
thoughtful role-playing experience. Do not hesitate, Padawan. This one is a classic. Buy it.
Some might even argue that KotOR comes closer to the magic than the two later movies by George Lucas himself.. but that is probably best left up to the gentle readers to decide for their own.
The bottom line? KOTOR is a modern-day masterpiece that will be talked about for years to come. It's not the best-looking RPG ever made, and the early launch of the PC game was plagued by irritating bugs and incompatibilities, but anyone with a yen for roleplaying (and maybe some high-quality Star Wars action) would do well to pick this classic up now.
XboxThe Next Level
What else can I say? Buy this game, right now. If you don't have an Xbox, then go buy one and this game right now. This is one of those masterpieces of this electronic art form that comes out so very rarely, and you have to have it. Knights of the Old Republic is the real evolution of role playing games, and it will hopefully be a kick in the pants for a lot of other gaming companies to finally break down and move their RPGs out of the 8-bit era. You'll marvel at the graphics, be amazed by the sound, and you'll play it through again to take the paths you didn't choose the first time, and to see what might have happened had you gone to a different place at a different time. This game is a triumph.
XboxG4 TV: X-Play
Although it's an RPG set in an unfamiliar time line, "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" is the most complete and all-encompassing "Star Wars" gaming experience yet. Thanks to the nonlinear gameplay and extensive dialog, you experience everything firsthand, and the RPG battles let you direct "Star Wars"-like cinema in a way that's impossible with other genres. And, hell, if you're one of the six gamers who doesn't like "Star Wars," the game is an extremely solid RPG in its own right, too. Without question, "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" is a fantastic game. It's one of the deepest and best experiences the Xbox has to offer.
No other Star Wars title has even come close to doing what BioWare did with KOTOR. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the greatest RPGs that I have played thus far, this might very likely be my vote for Game of the Year when this year comes to a close. If you are a fan of the RPG genre or a fan of the Star Wars universe than stop reading this review, shut down your computer and drive to the nearest retail store and purchase this game, or simply order it online from our friends at Amazon.com. And even if you don?t like RPGs or the fabulous Star Wars universe, it will still be worth your time to check out this game, it?s that good! Grab this game, and may the force be with you.
After an abundance of game time, countless hours perfecting my lightsaber skills, and travelling down both the light and dark sides of the force I still want more. Most game wear out their welcome after one time through yet KotOR still calls to me in my sleep. This game has forever raised the bar on SW games and RPG's in general and expect to see comparisons to it even ten years from now. Quite possibly the greatest XBox game to date and easily the best RPG of all time SW KotOR is one of those titles that will still be talked about when the XBox reaches it's NES stature. This game is an easy candidate for game of the year and should see many awards across the board for it's level of excellence. Another fine addition to my XBox library and for those that do not own the console there is assuredly no reason not to own one now. Minor gripes and petty flaws aside this game is an instant classic, more than recommended..required!
Is it any fun though, you ask? You're damn right it is - the combination of fantastic sound, visuals, story and actual fun that makes up this game is second to none. It is an amazing experience that no discerning gamer should go without. If you aren't into RPG gaming, you should still give it a shot - this might be the game that helps you make the leap into the genre. If you couldn't care less about Star Wars (an understandable sentiment, if you base your stance on the recent movies), you owe it to yourself to experience this story. This is the game to have this holiday period for Xbox owners and there is NOTHING coming up that could oust it from the top spot.
Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is an epic story of good versus evil on a grand scale, which perfectly captures the adventure and excitement of the original Star Wars trilogy (not that a Jedi craves these things…) It looks wonderful, sounds excellent and the gameplay has tremendous depth in the completeness of the world, the amount of character development and the storyline, which is a very good one and takes a few very unexpected twists and turns before the end. The combat system and the inventory are next to perfect, meaning that you can sit back and be swept away by the engaging and compelling grandeur of the experience. This is the best game of the year so far and an absolute must have for every Xbox owner, so if you don't have the credits available then you'd better head down to your local store and put that Jedi mind trick to good use. You know what to do - just gently wave your hand as you calmly say "I've already paid for this game…"
BioWare has definitely provided us with an RPG of special significance. Experiences like the one provided by Knights of the Old Republic are few and far between today in the video game industry and none should miss out on such a grand tale you as a player take part in telling. With Xbox Live support we can look forward to new quests, equipment, and worlds to explore in the future. One can only hope, though, that BioWare decides to setup a dynasty of Star Wars titles. As it stands now, this game is reason enough to own an Xbox.
BioWare has crafted one of the best RPGs on any console with KoTOR. The gameplay, story, and sound are sure to grab you. The game is a much needed shot in the arm to the Xbox's sparse RPG library and is definitely the system's first must-have RPG. Though it's been more than two years since BioWare has made a console game, its return to the livingroom is most triumphant. Knights of the Old Republic is one of the finest and most enthralling games I've played this year. Star Wars fans, RPG fans, and those that fancy sexy Twi'leks must get this game!
This is one of the best games I have played in quite some time. Like I said before, this is an RPG through and through. Quest junkies, Hack and Slashers, and of course Star Wars fans will all find it appealing. I love many aspects of this game and hate none, and that is impressive if you know me. I can find very few faults in this game and I recommend everyone getting it. It is fun, replayable, and hell... its Star Wars! Being a Jedi kicks ass no matter what it is. In this game you can be multiple Jedi, enough reason to spend your money. A Pickle favorite easy.
Some have derided KOTOR for its lack of applicable lightsaber "physics", in that you can't actually carve a swathe through impermeable matter; to those obsessive-savants we'd simply refer them to Master Jedi Defense - dual-wielded lightsabers which pyrotechnically deflect incoming attacks (while further carving a swathe through metaphorical darkness). Everyone's a critic it would seem, but you'll not find Gamestyle slating the creators for 'missing' pieces; the world of Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic is as vibrant as you'd expect, and puts just about every Star Wars-inspired videogame to shame. It's a luminous use of an indelible vehicle, and it deserves to be held aloft; suitably accorded the very best nomenclature in Gamestyle's vocabulary. A Ten, then.

When I was growing up, my friends and I would be the first in line to buy any new games put out by Lucas Arts because we knew they would be a lot of fun. Over the past couple of years, if I was not reviewing the game, I have found myself waiting to see what my fellow reviewers had to say before deciding to go to the store. Playing Knights of the Old Republic reminds me of the good old days when I would be waiting in a long line at the game store. This is the best game that I have played from Lucas Arts, since I don't remember when. Lucas Arts (publisher) and Bioware (developer) have managed to combine an extremely compelling plot with some amazing graphics and an open-ended story line.
XboxGame industry News (GiN)
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is my pick for Xbox game of the year. It is the best thing I have seen this year on the Xbox and gets 5 GiN Gems. The story line is great, the graphics are outstanding, combat is smooth and easy at first and while not loosing those characteristics it becomes very strategic in later levels. Even with all that, the absolute best thing is that I was never at a loss as to what to do next.
KotOR will be a welcome addition to any gamers collection. It has the feel of an action game and the depth of an RPG. My advice: Don’t bother renting it. Just buy it.
The weird thing about Star Wars is that as the movies get worse, the games get better. Now here's Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR! Raaargh!), a game with such an interesting story, with such well-developed characters, that it's actually a better cinematic experience than either of the Episodes.
As perfect as this game is, like most RPG’s there is the concern of wanting to finish it more then once. With Knights, this is no issue. The game changes dramatically whether you’re male, female, light or dark, or even try to stay on a neutral path. Anyway you look at it; there are LOTS of reasons to play this many times. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is my first pick for Game of the Year 2003, buy this one NOW!
As geeky as it sounds, the Star Wars movies have impacted my life greatly. I spent countless hours as a child watching the original trilogy and countless more as a young teen reading the books. When the prequels came out my childhood memories were tainted and I stopped enjoying Star Wars as much as I used to. I would have never imagined that one game could single-handedly revitalize my interest in Star Wars and enthrall me like the original trilogy once did. Bioware’s Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (henceforth KOTOR) is not only the best Star Wars game ever made, but it’s also one of the finest RPGs around for a variety of different reasons.
BioWare proves that there's still life left in the Star Wars license with the finest RPG released this year.
BioWare has done it again, and made an incredible game that will enchant anyone playing it. Whether you're a Star Wars fan or not, this game will definitely keep you enthralled for hours at a time. The only thing keeping it from a perfect score was the lack of more planets, because in a time where we can play a game as open-ended as Morrowind, we got to have more planets. But it detracts little from the game, and the planets you explore are large enough anyway. You will play this game. You will play it...immune to Jedi mind tricks are you? Well, play it anyway!
It’s also the RPG that Xbox owners have been waiting for since launch. The size and scope of the adventure, and the incredibly diverse cast of characters you’ll encounter, combined with the epic story and tremendous number of amazing locations will absolutely blow your mind, and I guarantee that you’ll never want the game to end. Exploring, fighting, and leveling up with your party will keep you glued to the screen for the foreseeable future, and you’ll easily get 40 hours of play the first time through. There’s real incentive to play through the game again as a dark character, so technically, you could see 80 hours of Jedi fun by the time you’re completely finished. If you’re a Star Wars fan, an RPG fan, or just a connoisseur of top-shelf AAA games, run to the store and buy Knights Of The Old Republic. It’ll be the best $50.00 you’ve ever spent in your entire gaming career…seriously.
Overall SW: KotOR is an excellent example of how a RPG should be, which is outstanding considering SW: KotOR is the first Star Wars RPG ever developed. Bioware has shown considerable talent in their previous titles, all of which served to polish their skills so that they could make SW: KotOR meet not only the standards of quality digital entertainment but also to meet the often high demands of Star Wars fans. For a great RPG that bears the Star Wars license and wields not only quality gameplay but an excellent plot, SW: KotOR is a must-buy.
In fact, KOTOR marks the first time I have ever played a game through for the first time in anticipation of the second time I get to play through, not only to see what happens when I choose to follow the dark path as opposed to the light but also because the game is just that good. And if that’s not enough it also supports downloadable content over Xbox Live, so there’s no telling what might be in store for us in the future. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a work of art, and to call it the best Star Wars game is a vast understatement. Calling it the best game on the Xbox is bold, but certainly not out of the question. But to call this game best RPG of all time? Quite possibly, yes; the force is strong with this one.
All-in-all, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is not for everyone. Rather than being styled like a typical console RPG, the game instead goes for a more PC-styled set up a la the Baldur's Gate games. Hardcore console gamers that are willing to overlook this will find an incredibly deep and beautiful game that is also quite fun. Whether you decide to follow the path of Light or Dark, of Jedi or Sith, the game is solid through and through. I must recommend that if there is only one RPG that you buy this year, that it be this one. It is my opinion that you will not regret your purchase. As I said before, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is an incredibly strong contender for Game of the Year for 2003.

While still a role-playing game at heart, the execution of it gives people that don't traditionally play this type of game access, while still retaining enough control to give hardcore RPG fans something to savor. The story is rich enough to not need the Star Wars license, though having it executed brilliantly is icing on the cake. With its blend of role playing, storytelling and action, "Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic" is one of the few must-own games for the Xbox (let alone any console).
Leave it to the wizards at BioWare and LucasArts to join forces and create the ultimate Star Wars role-playing game. After a successful Xbox launch only rivaled by the likes of Halo Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) makes its way to the PC in what is perhaps the best console to PC port in the history of cross-platform conversions.
Engage in this saga set in the Golden Age of the Republic - over 4,000 years before the first Star Wars film, when both Jedi and Sith number in the thousands. With the Galaxy reeling from a recent conflict with the Dark Lords, the ongoing battle between the Jedi and the Sith rages on. Your actions determine the outcome of this colossal galactic war - and your destiny as a Jedi.
It's very rare for a game to be strong in as many ways as BioWare's Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, and refreshing to play one that has found its own style and succeeds. From the brilliantly executed Light vs. Dark approach, to the superb voice acting and rich, immersive worlds, KotOR feels like a tour on a pleasure cruise from start to finish, visiting foreign ports and finding adventure. It is an RPG that now stands with my very favorites, for its own unique reasons. One does not have to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy it, and I would eagerly recommend it to anyone looking for a gaming adventure. It's as much that as it is an RPG, combining the right mix of storytelling, danger and RPG elements. The bottom line: there is enough game here to justify the purchase of the gaming rig that plays it.
Despite all these minor flaws, KotOR remains one of the best RPG’s ever made, and for me it’s definitely the RPG of the year, managing to surpass Gothic 2. After I’m going to finish writing this review, I’m going to fire up the game again, to see what side quests did I miss, what enemies have I left alive and what consequences will my actions have if I choose differently from the first time, knowing how things turned out in the first place. Who says knowing the future is a bad thing? With these being said, the only thing left for me to say to you is that I’m eagerly expecting a multiplayer add on or a full sequel, and that I strongly encourage you to go out, buy the game, and enjoy one of the finest RPG’s ever made. And may the Force by with you.

Overall, KOTOR delivers everything you could ever want to the table. Addicting gameplay with a great storyline is always destined for success, but BioWare added everything else everybody wanted to see in the Star Wars movies and put it here. There is about 60 hours of game here to complete entirely, but add the fact that it has downloadable content via Xbox Live and you are in heaven. This easily is the deepest single player game on the Xbox, even deeper than Morrowind's massively long game. No RPG could possibly come close to the power of KOTOR on the Xbox, none!

KOTOR is heavily story driven, and the story is conveyed through extensive high quality cutscenes and close-up views of dialog and conversations complete with excellent voiceover work. In fact, all dialog in the game is spoken. The story is engrossing, complete with plot turns and surprises, and although it starts slowly you'll soon be complete caught up in it. What's more, depending on the dialog and action choices that you make during the course of the game you'll get a different experience. If you play the game once from the light side and once from the dark, it's like getting two incredible games for the price of one.

This game virtually screams quality from the moment you open the box. It has a nice spiral bound manual, four CDs that come in a genuine CD case. An excellent, if somewhat limited character creation screen. A wonderful non-predictable storyline, excellent combat scenes, authentic Star Wars sounds and aliens. It's just a grand game all around!

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the complete package. It is without a doubt one of the finest single player games put together. Solid graphics, and exceptional voiceover work. And bar none, the deepest gameplay I think I have ever come across. Believe me, what you see above, is maybe one quarter of the whole game. Yeah, it's like that. I think barring a miracle game later this year, you have your RPG of the year, and probably your Xbox game of the year. Maybe even more. Now if you'll excuse me, I'm heading back to my Xbox to get some more!
Almost everything about this game is perfect. The character development is superb; the combat is exceptional; the environments convincing… heck, even the story is better than the last two films. Even if you’re not a Star Wars fan, this is by far the best adventure game you can buy, but if you’re a Star Wars freak, then this is as good as any game can get.
If you’re an RPG fan, get Knights of the Old Republic. If you’re a Star Wars fan, get Knights of the Old Republic. It’s a great game and among the finest RPGs I’ve ever played. Is it worth buying an Xbox for? I did, and I can honestly say I haven’t been disappointed. Although, I'm a die-hard Star Wars fan so maybe I'm a bit biased. Should you decide not to get an Xbox, make sure to catch it when it comes out on PC.
To this day, I still say there is no better game on Xbox. I rented this game the first time I played it. I did it because of the reputation that it had taken up. I had 6 days to beat it. The last night, I played it until 3:30am in order to beat it because this game is just that good. The best part is that there is now a second KOTOR coming out. Go out and buy it. You won't be disappointed.

Star Wars: KOTOR is easily one of the best Xbox games to ever be released, game of the year nominee, and possibly, the best RPG to ever hit any console. If you’re looking for an RPG that will last eons upon eons, KOTOR is the right game for you, no matter what preference you have.
In the time that I have been doing reviews, I can’t say that I have ever reviewed one that really grabbed me like this one did. I personally am more of an FPS fan, but KotOR blew away a lot of my favorite games and sucked me in to the point where I have lost many hours of sleep and had to force myself to turn the game off late after long hours of playing. If you are a fan of action or RPG games or are a Star Wars fan … you should hop in the car and go to your nearest store as soon as you shut your web browser down.
This game will easily challenge The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker for Game of the Year so far in my mind and probably in several other people's minds. We'll have to see what else comes to the plate for the rest of the year.
Yet, despite these complaints, I still found Knights of the Old Republic to be a true work of art. Its success on the Xbox was well expected given the severe lack of other RPG options. But on the PC where a gamer has plenty of choices, BioWare's newest game needed to be all the better to attract attention. And while this RPG does not succeed in blowing everything else out of the water, it is still a great deal better than the vast majority of other titles currently available. Any self-respecting PC gamer that has yet to play the Xbox version of this BioWare masterpiece would do themselves well to pick it up.
I don't think Bioware could have done much better than what they produced in Knights of the Old Republic. The transfer to PC also seems to have gone very well. This shouldn't be surprising as these guys have been creating top notch games for the PC for quite awhile now. I've heard that the game can have some performance issues, but I can't really say anything in this regard since my computer isn't quite up to specs. However, the game is perfectly playable on a system 300mhz below the minimum requirements, assuming you exceed some of the other specifications. Some of the battles get kinda choppy, but this is an RPG, so it's no big deal. Swoop bike racing is rather difficult though (sob).

KOTOR is so good that I immediately started playing again after finishing it the first time. There really is no reason why an Xbox owner should pass up this game, unless his only remaining fifty notes are for a life-saving kidney operation. Sure, we wish the visuals were a little more refined, and the original Star Wars score should have been more prevalent, but these are molehills next to KOTOR's mountain of excellence. This is one of the best RPGs on any platform.
And ultimately, being "good old ‘Star Wars’" is what makes KOTOR so special. Games, prequels and even books, to a certain extent, have failed to achieve the universal appeal of the original trilogy. For one reason or another, those products have just not captured the truly classic elements that made Episodes IV-VI so magical. "Star Wars" on the whole has lost a step or two in the past few years, at least from narrative and immersion standpoints. Yet KOTOR returns every ounce of respect back to the franchise in one incredible game. "Star Wars" is back, boys and girls, and it’s back in one of the most complete, compelling and charismatic games in years.
Star Wars games are usually pretty hit and miss, sadly a lot of the time they’re mostly misses and there have been, to my knowledge, no Star Wars RPG’s until now. Say the name Bioware and you will instantly think of Neverwinter Nights and the hoards of sword waving, spell casting fans that enjoy that kind of game.

In the end, KOTOR provides a Star Wars adventure that not only lives up to the Star Wars name, but is able to do it better than any of the recent movies. Whether you're an RPG fan or not, and regardless of your feelings toward Star Wars, Knights of the Old Republic is a must play game.
What more can I say? BioWare has created the ultimate in Star Wars titles. Featuring a vast array of characters, an intuitive and highly entertaining battle system, a truly engaging and epic storyline and fantastic sound and music, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best Star Wars games on the market and a must have for Xbox owners everywhere.
KOTOR is the game that Xbox fans have truly been waiting for. We’ve all suffered through delay after delay of this great title, and now that it is finally here we know that it was worth the wait. From its magnificent story to its innovative battle engine, KOTOR covers all the bases and easily blows away every American RPG created in recent history, while challenging even the best and biggest Japanese behemoths like Final Fantasy. I was beginning to think that I had a better chance of getting eaten by a shark than seeing another console RPG ported to the PC. With a sleek new user interface, perfect control mapping, and a boost in graphical resolution, Knights feels right at home on the PC. If you haven’t had the chance to play through this game yet, drop this magazine and run out to the store immediately. The level of control that you have over your characters’ actions is truly remarkable. Do you fight the good fight, or turn to the dark side? The game is completely different for both paths and worthy of playing through twice. Combat is brimming with strategies; character development is extensive; and the story is brilliantly penned. Simply put, this is the best thing to happen to Star Wars since the original trilogy.

Through such series as Baldur’s Gate, Icewind Dale, and Neverwinter Nights; developer BioWare has racked up an impressive list of hits – many of which are regarded as some of the most compelling and sophisticated PC role-playing games to date. Traditionally, console RPGs favor simplicity and ease of use over the complexity and wealth of options that BioWare chooses to implement into each of its games. Thankfully, the brilliant minds at this famed development house had no intention of bowing down to the industry standards for its first foray into the Star Wars universe.
KotOR is easily one of the best RPG games on the market, for any system. Gamers who bought it for the XBox will enjoy the higher resolution settings and lack of bugs that ran rampant in the original version. This is an epic adventure worthy of the Star Wars name that will keep you occupied and is well worth the 50 bucks. The only thing missing is some magical form of multiplayer. Fortunately, with so many side quests and alternate paths through the game, the replay value of KotOR shoots through the roof.
Knights of the Old Republic is an outstanding game because it covers every single angle in terms of audience expectations. It's got enough Star Wars to satisfy the fans and enough pure fun to draw in people who normally wouldn't get into role-playing games. You'll see this on several Game of the Year nomination lists if not at the very top soon enough.
BioWare’s latest offering combines deep, yet accessible gameplay and beautiful graphics set in a galaxy far, far away.
This is what RPG gaming has always been about and thanks to BioWare we can hopefully see a paradigm shift in the way future RPG games are created. For now, anyone with an Xbox owes it to themselves to make this game a permanent addition to their Xbox library.
The legendary movie saga Star Wars has had a legendary number of games attached to it; not all of them good… and some very bad. But every once in a while, a rare Star Wars game filled with originality, adventure, action, and an overall cinematic experience comes along. Before Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR), the pickings for top quality Star Wars RPGs were well… slim to say the least. KOTOR brings to the Star Wars line-up of videogames an awesome and innovative RPG title. In KOTOR you play a Republic soldier who has lost his memory due to an attack on your spaceship, the Endar Spire. Throughout the game you have flashbacks to that fateful encounter; flashbacks that might even hold the key to your true identity. Along the way you will meet many characters that will aid you on your quest, from Jedi to Droids to Wookies. All in all the stage is set for an incredible Star Wars adventure.

But, as a whole, KOTOR is an excellent role-playing game. I wasn’t really a fan of either of the first two Neverwinter Nights games, which made me a little pessimistic about the post-Infinity Engine quality of BioWare, but KOTOR puts them right back at the top of the heap. That’s a good thing, especially since some of their competitors have had a rough time of late, and who knows who else might be producing good role-playing games in the future. So if you haven’t played KOTOR yet, and if you like role-playing games at all, go out and get it.
Bioware's awesome RPG Knights of the Old Republic feels right at home on the PC with high-res graphics and an excellent control scheme. While the rather sluggish frame rates, miscellaneous bugs, and lack of any major new content are at the least a bit disappointing, any fans of RPGs or Star Wars would be committing a crime not to give this game a shot. It's an instant classic that only got better on the PC.
This is not just another run of the mill PC game coughed up by Lucas Arts to profit on the famed Star Wars franchise. A profound storyline, in-depth characterization and dialogue, tons of RPG elements to experiment with, so many side quests that you'd be hard pressed to complete them all and the ability to choose your own destiny and affiliation with the force, makes Knights of the Old Republic an exemplary new chapter of the Star Wars saga, as well as a grand single-player experience that can stand very well on its own. There's plenty to do in the game, most of which is simply impossible to experience the first time around, so it is likely you'll feel the need to come back to the game once you're done, and see how things would turn out if you've made different decisions, or if you wish to simply replay as a different Jedi type as before.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is just what the Xbox needs - variety. Right now, the Xbox has been primarily focusing on Xbox Live, and first-person shooters and such to go with Xbox live. The RPG genre is really lacking on the Xbox (as it is on the Gamecube for the most part), and what better than to have a game fill that RPG void, and also hang out with Halo as one of, if not THE best game on Xbox to date. There are a few problems such as sporadic frame rate leaps and L-O-N-G loading times, though they are not anywhere near big enough problems to decline any of the value that KOTOR has.

Still with me? Excellent. Now, if you're a gamer that enjoys PC role-playing games, you're probably familiar with BioWare's work, including Dungeons & Dragons gems like Baldur's Gate. Interestingly, a few years ago, BioWare somehow produced not only the reportedly best RPG for the X-Box, but also the best Star Wars product in years: Knights of the Old Republic . That made people understandably excited for the PC port which came out a few months afterwards.

There are plenty of Star Wars games out there, but none of which truly capture the feeling of “being” a Jedi like Aspyr Media’s latest LucasArts title, Knights of the Old Republic (KotOR).
I really enjoyed finishing this game. This game is just awesome, definitely one of the best game released last year. The story is killer. I'm not hardcore Star Wars fan that has seen all the movies multiple times, but the story is probably better than both of the new movies. If you're looking for an RPG with good action and adventure elements, then pick this up as soon as possible. If you're a Star Wars fan then this is a must have.

In spite of its faults, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is one of the best games I've ever seen or played. Most surprising of all, it is a game that is even better even than the high score I've given it, and a game I suspect will eventually become the stuff of legends in the gaming industry. KOTOR transcends the traditional dungeon crawling RPG experience, making it a must-play even for people who don't like RPGs. And with the game available on the PC, there's no excuse not to get your hands on it.
Once you get force powers (that’s kind of a spoiler, but this is a Star Wars game, stupid) the battles are even more fun. I played as a light side Jedi, so I didn’t get the coolest force powers, but even the light side gets to have some pretty wicked fun at times. The controls were fine, I never had an in-battle slip up. Some interesting puzzles litter your quest, ones which you can solve in a variety of ways. Some puzzles even call on your own personal math skills, which is actually more amusing than it sounds. There are three mini-games: a space shooter, a racing game, and a card game. The first two are pretty lame compared to actual games devoted to their respective topics, but serve as nice breaks in the gameplay. The card game, Pazaak, is entirely unrelated to the plot, but you can play whenever you find a willing opponent. I found the game to be a pretty fun diversion and a bit addictive.

KOTOR is by far the best RPG for the Xbox and one of the best RPGs ever made. Besides Halo, it could be considered the best game in the Xbox library, though it is definitely not an action game. As long as an Xbox owner has the time that this game demands, it is a necessity to at least rent this game before buying it.
WindowsPC Format (UK)
KOTOR remains, however, an excellent RPG. Don't be put off if you don't like Star Wars, as it goes far beyond Lucas' original vision, offering a strong enough world to appeal to any science fiction fan. Likewise, there's no reason to fear its Xbox origins - while you may occasionally long for extra depth on a mission or perhaps some more involved combat, the rapid pace and dedication to narrative and character will soon have you back hacking away in the thick of the action.
Knights of the Old Republic, The Clone Wars, and SWG have managed to make the debate over the quality of the next Star Wars movie obsolete. These games now give us the ability to visit the rich Star Wars world and (unlike the films) join in the battle of Good vs. Evil anytime we like. As it stands right now, Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is a jewel among the countless movie-licensed games being released these days, and other crappy summer moneymaking projects lurking around your local store. It's a must have for all.

Knights of the Old Republic nähert sich mit langsamen Schritten der Genialität.

Knights of the Old Republic è un titolo che porta con sè moltissime aspettative.
Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is the deepest foray yet into the Star Wars universe and well worth the price of admission. Obviously, if you already have the Xbox version, there is no reason to get this one, too. But if you have ever looked across the room at a cold beer and tried to use the Force to bring it to your hand instead of getting up (one of these times I know it’s gonna work), this should be an easy decision. Go out and get it now. Just do it, there is no try.
All in all this is one of the games you shouldn't miss out on. So go to the store and get Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and ‘May the Force be with you’.
If you want a great RPG -- the only one I can think of for Xbox right now -- then look no further than Star Wars: KOTOR. You can finally become a Jedi Master, or Sith Master, within the realm of the Old Republic. At times, the options can be overwhelming. Hence, the semi real-time battles. When it's all said and done, KOTOR is now my favorite console game with a Star Wars license.
Ultimately, though, the bugs are an annoyance and not a game breaker. Knights of the Old Republic is the Star Wars game fans have been wanting for years. The bugs do detract a bit from the score, but not in a major way -- they simply lower the game from near perfect status to the very very good level -- which says something about the quality of the title as a whole. If you loved the original trilogy and have yearned for a new adventure of that magnitude (and not one like the crap in Episode I & II) then picking up Knights of the Old Republic is an easy decision. Now, quit sitting there -- run out and get the game. There's a galaxy for you to save or destroy out there.
Impressive!

At this point, you’ve probably read the reviews and played the game, so whatever I write about Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (KOTOR) is pretty much moot – you’ve already made up your mind as to whether KOTOR was worth your money. But for the few that haven’t been exposed to either the Xbox version (released way, way back in the Summer of 2004) or the PC version, I can sum it up with, “Buy it!”
Knights of the Old Republic is everything a Star Wars game should be. In fact, it's everything a Star Wars epic should be, with a galaxy-spanning plot worthy of the first trilogy and better than the second. It might not do anything new that Neverwinter Nights didn't do last year, but it's a fantastic adaptation and a must-have Xbox game. The Force is very strong in this one.
It's apparent from playing Knights of the Old Republic that a remarkable amount of effort, work, and talent went into this game. It's one of the only Star Wars games to truly make you feel at times as though you're a key player in and a part of this unique and beloved sci-fi setting. You'll get to do all the sorts of stuff that you've seen and enjoyed in the Star Wars movies, and you'll get to emulate any of your favorite characters' personalities and actions over the course of the game. You'll also experience a much more morally complex version of Star Wars than what you get from the movies. Along the way, you'll find a few aspects of the game that you'll wish were better, but that's mostly because the vast majority of Knights of the Old Republic is so exceptionally good.
Knights of the Old Republic is tremendously reverential to the franchise’s lore. Its plot is arguably more satisfying than the ham-fisted narratives of the recent Star Wars films, and it certainly does a better job at conveying moral complexities. While its environments are artificially limited relative to what some other RPGs have done, the game still presents numerous opportunities to roleplay different personalities and re-create many definitive hooks from the movies. It’s an impressive RPG and a great Star Wars experience.
Overall the union of a decent and - simplified for use- representation of Dungeons & Dragons game-play with a well loved and truly brilliant subject matter masterfully fulfilled makes for the most compelling and complete game on the Xbox to date.
All in all this is honestly an incredible piece of work, there is much attention to detail from the correct inhabitants of planets to the realistic battle that will make you feel as though you have the midichlorion count of Anakin Skywalker pulsing through your veins. In this game, you experience the real Star Wars Galaxy.
When a game has the ability to win “best star wars game”, “best xbox game” and is a strong contender for “game of the year for 2003″ it is something you need to check out. If you have an Xbox this game is a must have to add to your xbox library.
Despite the lack of our favourite characters, spaceships and vehicles, KOTOR manages to retain all that was good about Star Wars, with Jedi duels aplenty and a storyline that puts Attack Of The Clones to shame. Star Wars' glorious past has been brought to life with style - better than we could have hoped after playing recent Star Wars efforts - and with new content planned via Xbox Live, the Old Republic has a promising future.
XboxAll Game Guide
BioWare has set the bar for future Star Wars role-playing games, console or computer. The game will take roughly 40 hours to complete, and there are several different quests, plot developments, and features that will be missed the first time through. Considering the two distinct endings based on how your character uses the Force, the support for downloadable content via Xbox Live, and the extensive customization options for each character, it is a game that more than lives up to its rich heritage. If you're a fan of Star Wars or just love a great role-playing game filled with memorable characters, story, and dialogue, Knights of the Old Republic is a must-have title. In a franchise that has seen more bantha poodo than a Tusken Raider on cleanup detail, Knights of the Old Republic draws you into the Star Wars universe like no other title before it.
Flashing lightsabers, dazzling force powers and a beautiful description of the Star Wars universe that Lucasarts can only glare at jealously.
All in all though, despite the bugs, just as it was on the Xbox KOTOR for the PC is one hell of a good game to play. It's fun, it's Star Wars, it's gorgeous, it's long (40+ hours), it has a great story (with cool twists) and is an absolute joy from start to finish. Believe it - Game of the Year. Go and buy it now!
As it stands it's almost perfect - I'm now waiting on the PC version, with better graphics, more missions and the hope that it can be modded to remove the XP cap to make it virtually endless and make it THE perfect game for SW fans.
Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic has been the first game in a long time where I haven’t felt cheated by the hype. It’s a great game whether you are a fan of Star Wars or if you’re not. If you are a fan, it will leave you smiling from ear to ear and unable to tear yourself away from it for days. For non-fans, you will quickly find yourself re-evaluating your feelings. It’s got enough depth as a RPG to satisfy the most die hard stat-heads and it has enough pick-up-and-play appeal that anybody can quickly get to grips with. A truly, truly great game.
In my own opinion, this game is a better reason to own an Xbox than Halo, but that's because of just how much you can do in the game, and how much each quest can affect your character and the rest of the galaxy within the game.
If you're an Xbox owner, there's no reason not to pick up Knights of the Old Republic if you're into RPGs. The game will be released on the PC later this year, so you have the option to wait for that instead. Regardless, this is one role-playing game that you should consider playing at least once in your lifetime. While this is an obvious must-buy for Star Wars fans, it is also a truly dynamic experience that can be enjoyed by anyone, Star Wars fan or not.

Knights of the Old Republic is the ultimate RPG experience on the Xbox, encompassing an engrossing story, solid battle system and a whole heap of other elements that combine together to make a great game. This could definitely be the beginning of the return to greatness for Star Wars games.
Despite these minor flaws, however, KotOR remains a thoroughly engrossing, hugely compelling and annoyingly addictive game to play. Although an aversion to all things Star Wars might put off certain initiates to the game world, the game stands-up so well in its own right that a few hour's play will see all but the ardent anti-Lucas fan involved in the plot. Gamers who abhore combat that involves a bit of thought and reflection, however, may wish to steer well clear. But for anyone looking for a lengthy, epic adventure featuring hugely memorable characters, a great script, and superb game mechanics, there’s no better place to look than Knights of the Old Republic. And if this is a taste of things to come, perhaps that one about Star Wars games set outside of the original trilogy may not be a rule for much longer.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic is definitely the best Star Wars game out there, and may even be one of the best games ever made. Every facet, from the combat to the epic story and sweeping soundtrack, from the battle system to the character interaction to the linguistic representation is polished to a glowing sheen. BioWare has overlooked nothing in making one of the finest video game experiences to ever grace the television screen. With only the minor graphical hiccups and erratic behavior holding the game back from perfection, Knights of the Old Republic comes with the highest possible recommendation to old-hat Star Wars fans, the same as those new to the series, the same as those who couldn't care less about lightsabers and the Force. Simply put, this game is awesome. It is the reason I play games. Thank you BioWare, thanks for everything.

Kotor looks good as well but maybe not as good as it could do on Xbox. Also at times there are some inconsistencies regarding the frame rate. However this game is far bigger than the issue of graphics. As with most games some areas really impress in their scale while others are less pleasing to the eye. Like myself, you will probably be too engrossed in the game play to actually care about these issues. Kotor is an excellent game with many pro- claiming it the best rpg on Xbox. Featuring an excellent movie like storyline which really captures the feel of the Star Wars uni- verse, an authentic musical score, lots of replay and many other cool features. what more could you ask for? Are you light or dark on this one? Either way, this game ROCKS.
In the sound department the usual Star Wars themes are present, but BioWare has added over 90 minutes of a new score just for this game, a welcomed addition to the almost “Stereotypical” Star Wars soundtrack you find in many of the SW games. The dialogue is interesting and unique, and the aliens do speak in their native tongue so you will need to read. Battle effects and explosions take full advantage of the in game Dolby Digital, and truly suck you into the game. Solid effort.
Knights of the Old Republic is the best Star Wars game since X-Wing and/or Tie Fighter, if not ever. Unless something entirely unbelievable descends from the heavens, it’s the RPG of the year. If the remaining major players fumble even slightly, it’s game of the year. Along with Halo, it’s the reason to invite Bill Gates into your house.
Knights of the Old Republic von Bioware und Lucas Arts ist schon fast DAS perfekte Rollenspiel.
KoToR has surprised me very pleasantly. Recently I’ve also gotten the chance to compare the pc version with the one for Xbox and I can say that the interface and graphics have been nicely ported towards PC standards. KoToR is both for RPG lovers and non-RPG gamers. For the Star Wars freaks this game is a wet dream but also the normal human being (;p) will get to appreciate this game. As you can read above, it isn’t for nothing that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic was chosen as Fragland’s PC game of the year 2003. Buy it !
Aside from the occasionally too 'Star Warsy' and drawn out dialogue, the shooter-like controls, and a few gratuitous arcade sequences, this is a perfect RPG. The story is well paced, with many plot twists to keep you guessing, and plentiful side quests to keep you occupied and chasing XP for that next level up. So, may the... no, I must resist!
The game has a great storyline with a little surprise towards the end. This would have scored a 10 but with the glitches and useless information they provide I just couldn't give it a perfect score. Star Wars: Knights of the Old Replubic started off pretty slow, but in the end turned out to be a great game.
But no matter. The main point is: After many tries, someone's managed to combine console and PC RPGs (two completely different genres, really) and create something that fans from both camps will love to bits. BioWare's efforts have been well worth the wait KOTOR is required playing for Xbox owners, and it's worth finishing twice to spot the differences between the Light and Dark stories. Yes, it's that good.
BioWare shares one of the best visions of the Star Wars universe in memory with PC gamers.

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic still holds up, and remains a must-play for younger players who didn’t catch it the first time around. Though the iPad version's touch controls make movement clumsy, most of its changes are for the better. If you haven’t played it before, or want to experience it again, this is a great way to do it.
If you have not played Knights of the Old Republic yet – you really owe it to yourself to grab a copy and give it a go. You don’t need to be a Star Wars fan to enjoy this game, the story stands alone from the movies and other material and the background is explained pretty well throughout the game. You can play this game without ANY prior knowledge of Star Wars and still have a great time. For those people who do like Star Wars; this is probably one of the greatest Star Wars games ever made. You can purchase this game for £6.99 on Steam or under a tenner on Amazon. Depending on how thoroughly you go through an RPG, you can expect a playthrough to last 45-60 hours. You will enjoy this game at least twice (Light side and Dark side) so you should get roughly 100 hours of great gameplay out of your money. If that isn’t value for money, I don’t know what is – go play it already!

You've been warned. If you're still in the market for an immersive, versatile RPG set in the Star Wars universe, then Knights of the Old Republic is the game you've been waiting for. Just be sure to save frequently, and keep multiple saves, in case the glitches strike.
A number of technical issues in the out-of-the-box product mar what otherwise is the best version of one of the year's best games.
Overall Knights is a great RPG, with just some obvious imperfections that are for the most part easy to ignore. There is a great deal of gameplay to be had, although the pace is slightly slow and there probably isn't a great deal of reward in replaying the game. The PC version clearly trumps the XBox version, with better graphics, better control, new additions and various bug fixes.

May the Force be with you, BioWare!
It's important for me to remember, however, that even with the difficult situations presented in the game, my life could never be that simple and inconsequential. I could never live with outside the reins of my role as a member of society, therefore there'd be no possible way I could gut my boss. It's probably why I enjoyed this game a great deal. I can ruminate on consequences for a few minutes, before deciding to kill the bastard and no one will be the wiser. I didn't really get any answers or solutions from playing the game. But Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic game has helped me acknowledge my appointed limits, all the while giving the illusion that there are less in this videogame galaxy.

As you might imagine, the sweeping musical score is fantastic, and the dramatic cut-scenes are almost movie quality. It took me a while to warm up to Knights of the Old Republic, but after sinking about ten hours into this massive adventure, I think I can finally say, "Yeah, I get it".
The sheer abundance of game play and the ability to choose your own destiny make Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic a must-have for Star Wars enthusiasts.
It's a testament to the strength of Knights' original design that it manages to be gripping and engaging while in the midst of distracting technical problems. If you have a good PC and can get a patch to fix the crash problems, this version of Knights is a fantastic way to spend your time.
Despite the heavy PC feel, unpolished appearance, and more glitches than I'm accustomed to tolerating, Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic still manages to deliver a compelling experience. It may not be the most balanced, well-paced or graphically stunning game out there, but it's definitely got class enough to warrant a purchase thanks to the intelligent dialogue, smart characters, and the true spirit of Star Wars that's been missing for far too long. Oh, and the lightsabers don't hurt, either.
With its huge universe to draw from, there is plenty to keep the average fan happy. The storyline is saccharine enough to stick and the overall feel of the game is very good although you will need plenty of patience. If you are hoping this will be the latest action fest that it looks like, then you will be disappointed. However if you've done your homework and actually looking forward to a storyline that will slowly draw you in this is bang on the money. With few RPGs of this calibre on the Xbox it's nice to finally see a game of this nature ticking all the boxes.
