Star Wars: Rogue Squadron 3D

This is the best game I have played in some time. Its easy interface and wonderful gameplay make it accessible to both beginning pilots and Jedi Knights alike. The sights and sounds of the Star Wars universe make this a "must have" for any fan and a "should have" for any of you who aren’t. (Do you even exist?) I was impressed by the minimal amount of hard drive space (55 MB) this game takes up, compared to most other games these days. Overall, this game is a blast to play and will provide weeks (months? years?) of continuous fun even though there are no multiplayer capabilities, which is why I give this game a score of 94.

Those niggles aside, Rogue Squadron 3D is a great ride that provides all the Empire-butt-stomping you can handle in a game. Sure, it's a console port, but when the action is this much fun, who cares?

Rogue Squadron definitely emerges as a shining example that not all licensed games are quick attempts to get your hard-earned money. It's definitely my favorite console Star Wars title, and the bonus missions alone are worth the price of admission. Well done, LucasArts and Factor 5.

De som kommer få ut mest av Star Wars: Rogue Squadron är de som verkligen gillar Star Wars och njuter av bara tanken på att få kontrollera dessa underbara rymdskepp. Men utan något större djup i spelkänslan är Rogue Squadron egentligen bara ett godkänt Shoot 'em up i Star Wars-mundering.

Rogue Squadron zal geen enkele Warsie teleurstellen. Maar ook andere shooterfans kan ik dit spel aanraden want de aktie zal je zeker op het puntje van je stoel houden.

Rogue Squadron is een toppertje; prachtige graphics, overdonderende geluidseffekten en een zalige gameplay. de achttien totaal uiteenlopende missies zullen je zeker zoethouden tot het nieuwste deel van George Lucas' meesterwerk op het witte doek te zien is.

Rogue Squadron 3D är ett klart lyckat arkadspel som, även om man inte riktigt får känslan av att befinna sig i Star Wars universum, lyckas med bedriften att få spelaren att vilja köra "bara en timme till". Detta är i sig ett mycket bra betyg.

En résumé, on se prend au jeu dès l'ouverture de la boite, alléché par le thème du jeu, et on ne décroche pas avant un sacré moment. Les missions sont en effet très progressives et superbement intéressantes. Voilà, je ne sais plus quoi vous dire pour vous convaincre que ce jeu est un must. Alors si en plus, comme moi, vous êtes fan de Star Wars, vous devriez déjà l'avoir acheté !!

Rogue Squadron est excellent jeu sur PC. La version N64 étant quasiment identique, même jugement ! C'est le genre de jeu qu'on ne lâche pas avant un moment pour peu qu'on aime l'univers de La Guerre des Etoiles. Avec Rogue Squadron, vous allez vous surprendre en train de gesticuler sur votre chaise quand faites un looping, ou à vous reculer quand vous frôlerez un vaisseau ennemi !! :-)

Tijdens het spelen kon ik me maar niet van de indruk ontdoen dat het hier om een simpele conversie van een consolespel ging, zonder gebruik te maken van de extra mogelijkheden van de hedendaagse PC's! Rogue Squadron had een hele grote kunnen worden...nú is het niet meer dan een leuk tussendoortje.

Rogue Squadron's single graphic shortcoming has to be the wimpy explosion of your ship when you crash - it's about the size of a firecracker! The game offers five aircraft to choose from, each with its own unique look and feel. A huge hit, Rogue Squadron kicked off a popular series that would continue on the Gamecube.

Rogue Squadron is nothing but an arcade/action game ... it doesn't try to do anything new or innovative, but the designers certainly got the formula right on this one. It's not very long, there's no multiplayer mode, and I've seen better graphics, but, personally, with a game like Rogue Squadron I really don't give a damn. In the end, Rogue Squadron is just plain fun ... and isn't that really what games are supposed to be all about?

All in all, Star Wars: Rogue Squadron is a fun arcade game that all gamers will enjoy. Unfortunately, it lacks both the depth and the multiplayer that would have made this a truly great game. For fans of Star Wars and fast paced action games, this is a sure bet.

Хорошая получилась игра, хотя и не выдающаяся. Не всенародный хит, но любителям аркад и самих Star Wars должно понравиться. Всегда приятно полетать на истребителе самого Люка и вспомнить те далекие времена, когда появились первые кабельные сети и мы могли наслаждаться шедеврами Джорджа Лукаса, не гнушаясь отвратного качества изображения и звука. Если вы любите ностальгировать, то смело покупайте Rogue Squadron 3D — эта игра скрасит ваши долгие вечера. До мая.

Playing Rogue Squadron is a snap, because the action is straightforward and fun. There is always something to kill and clear mission objectives for you to follow. Don't go into this expecting a revolutionary space sim on the level of Descent: Freespace or TIE Fighter. There is a reason why GameSpot puts this game in the action genre - it's an arcade game. This isn't Wing Commander or Independence War, but if you enjoy a good shooter, you should give Rogue Squadron a try. The Alliance could always use a few good pilots.

However, the way you earn medals based on mission performance, also a legacy of the N64, gives the action a solid framework. By improving your performance, you can unlock vehicles to use on earlier missions to get better medals. Ultimately, you can unlock the Millennium Falcon, which is tantalizingly parked in the hangar when you choose a vehicle. This is just the sort of tease, coupled with Rogue Squadron's fast and easy action, that would have even the most jaded gamers crooning "I've Got You Under My Skin."

Overall, Rogue Squadron is a good mission-based shooter. Fans of the film will be pleased with the good usage of the Star Wars universe. Being able to fly by Jabba's palace, over Sarlacc, or to see Han Solo's homeworld is really a treat. Any fan of the first level of Shadows of the Empire really should check out Rogue Squadron.

Most gamers should have a lot of fun with Rogue Squadron. It is a pleasure to play. I found myself relaxed and at peace watching the beautiful 3D graphics. Do not buy Rogue Squadron expecting a whole lot of depth, uniqueness and replay value. Buy it if you want a good, solid, fun game that will make you feel like you're in the arcade. If you're a Star Wars fan, then that's all the more reason to buy it. Otherwise, go out and spend your money on Wing Commander Prophecy, or Descent Free Space. You'll get a lot more bang for your buck.

Für ein LucasArts-Spiel kommt Rogue Squadron ein wenig spärlich daher, selbst wenn die originalgetreuen Raumschiffe wie immer dicke Bonuspunkte einfahren. Um heutzutage mehr als nur Fans anzulocken, sollte man meiner Meinung nach allerdings auch etwas mehr als die hier verwendete, mittelprächtige Grafik präsentieren. Chrom- und Lichteffekte sind prinzipiell erfreulich, aber in Rogue Squadron bei weitem nicht ausgereizt. Keine Mängel birgt die Steuerung, von V-Wing bis X-Wing gleitet die komplette Rogue-Staffel erfrischend geschmeidig über feindliches Terrain. Wer Shadows of the Empire gespielt hat, kennt das Flugmodell. Ein kleiner Makel findet sich dagegen in dem rapide ansteigenden Schwierigkeitsgrad. Kaum einer der späteren Level kann ohne schweißnasse Hände und rasenden Puls überstanden werden. Alles in allem sollten sich Fans eine X-Wing-Probefahrt nicht entgehen lassen.

At least the gameplay in Rogue Squadron is superior to that of Rebel Assault and its oh so pathetic sequel but then again Rogue Squadron is so far behind X-Wing and TIE Fighter in the gameplay department that I can't believe it came out years later. First off I should note that Rogue Squadron is based completely on planetary spacecraft combat as seen in the first level of Shadows of the Empire.

Einsteigen, losfliegen und ballern, was die Laser hergeben – Rogue Squadron setzt ganz auf unkomplizierteste Action. Ohne Gefummel mit den Raumschiff-Systemen hole ich hier in einer Mission mehr TIE Fighter vom Himmel, als der typische Film-Pilot in seiner gesamten Laufbahn. Daß das Ganze Spaß macht, liegt zu großen Teilen an der stimmig inszenierten Star-Wars-Atmosphäre. Trotzdem müssen auch hartgesottene Sternenkrieger den X-Wing-Schlüssel nicht unbedingt aus der Hosentasche kramen. Ich hätte mir deutlich mehr spielerischen Tiefgang gewünscht. Spätestens ab der zehnten Mission machen sich angesichts des gleichförmigen Missionsdesigns Ermüdungserscheinungen breit. Verstehen Sie mich nicht falsch: Rogue Squadron ist kein schlechtes Spiel – aber einen Hunderter würde ich dafür nicht berappen wollen.
