Serve the emperor above all others.

So it's with great enthusiasm that I give "TIE Fighter" Applelinks' higest rating. As a flight sim, it reaches well beyond its "Star Wars" fan base to impress gamers of all types and ages. As another and completely different take on the "Star Wars" saga, "TIE Fighter" is faithful to its predecessors while being original enough to generate the same enthusiasm. It should quite easily keep you busy until we get the Mac version of "Pod Racer."

Embody the Empire's dark forces and take on the Rebel Alliance. The action of a World War II dogfight is combined with the fantasy of Star Wars in this great game.

Even if you normally do not enjoy flight simulations, there's no doubt you'll enjoy TIE Fighter. Offering flight simulation training missions within the game, it will assist you with your skill as a pilot. You'll find yourself bowing to the feet of the Emperor, ready to crush any Rebel scum who dare to oppose your forces. Evil is good.

With such a rich selection of ships and missions, chock-full of scorching action, TIE Fighter is an easy game to get hooked on. It can get pretty tough in some of those later missions, but don't worry—you can handle it. After all, you're working for the Dark Side.

This version of Tie Fighter has another little feature such as laser turrets that track your ship and rotating communications dishes. Basically a lot of detail has been added, unfortunately that takes up more power on your machine. You no doubt need a high end machine if you want to get the full benefit of Tie Fighter CD. Even if you can't run the SVGA mode, I think it is still worth getting, especially while the rebate is still good for those who own the original version. Overall an excellent space combat simulator.

Is this now-classic sci-fi action game worth the money? If you are a Star Wars fan and have enjoyed (and are still enjoying) X-Wing, this game is likely to keep you happy for hours on end. TIE's game play is almost identical to X-Wing. I can't recommend buying this game if your sole intention is to keep LucasArts developing Mac games (unless you've got $25 to blow). Although out-dated and out-matched by most of today's Mac action titles, TIE Fighter's low price may be its saving grace in triggering future Mac releases from LucasArts to appear (no guarantees though).

If you're a Star Wars fan, this game is a must. Even if you aren't, TIE Fighter is a heck of a lot of fun. Just don't get caught helping any little old ladies across the street. The imperial admiral might get very angry.
