Star Fighter can be marked as yet another fine example of how a hardware company should make its in house software team work well for its system. The 3DO Company has done well to support its people at Studio 3DO and as a result they have produced a lineup of games for the 3DO that is considered to be the best of the lot. This lineup has included Bladeforce, Killing Time, the fantastic Battlesport and Captain Quazar. Amongst these is a truly enjoyable cross between a full borne shooter and a flight sim. It moves a little slower than you would expect but the flight mechanics and the depth of battle make this a fine tour through the skies of the future.

There is just so much to see and do that the game will last for ages, although it’s very tempting to stray from the set mission and explore everything, shoot everything and try out the sleek controls of the StarFighter. I urge you to get a look at this, assuming games of this genre are your cup of tea, and be proud that the PlayStation can produce some of the most impressive and entertaining games around. This is a near perfect example of how to do a lasting, fun, thoughtful fly-andshoot-’ em-up. Well done Telstar!

A great game where you can blow lots of things up. The graphics are great and the music is great (most of the time). The only thing that Star Fighter suffers from is a hellish learning curve on control.

If you want a lot of game for you buck, Star Fighter is it. Offering you 60 missions, good graphics, cool music and tons of action, this title has the makings of a great game. The free movement (even allowing you to fly into space) is great, not to mention being able to blow up anything in your path. The only drawback is that your aircraft seems to move slowly at times, making the feeling of speed nearly nonexistent. Overall, Star Fighter is a great title for the 3DO.

In some cases this game soars with the best, in others it grovels with the worst. What then do I give it for a score? How about a 70 out of 100 for a product that needs some major improvement? If you are a hard-core enthusiast of games of this genre, pick up Starfighter. After you get it set up, I know you will enjoy scorching some innocent mountains into dust just for fun.

Overall, a standout title for such a weary genre. Let's just hope it doesn't start multiplying into unwanted sequels, like other flight sims we know.

Ill-defined graphics also limit the excitement. Colorful backgrounds lack detail, objects suddenly appear as you approach, and there's not enough dramatic intro footage to get you airborne. The sounds vary from effective voices to shrieking music that at times is unbearable. With 60 missions, Star Fighter is worth a long look.

SEGA SaturnAll Game Guide
Star Fighter is an impressive game. In an era when games like Star Fox and Panzer Dragoon are the norm, Star Fighter distinguishes itself by its number of features and free flight controls. The gameplay is addicting, the action intense. Unless you need fancy graphics in your game, Star Fighter ought to satisfy closet simulation junkies and shooting fans alike.

This game isn't just a bad version, it's just a terrible game for the platform. Unless you're a completist looking to finish off your Saturn collection, or a hard core glutton for punishment, I strongly suggest you give this game a really wide berth and skip it all-together.
