An upstart has seized the throne. Dynamix’s STARSIEGE has wrested the crown from the MECHWARRIOR 2 series, the long-time king of the giant robot hill. Where the company’s earlier EARTHSIEGE games wore also-rans, STARSIEGE comes to the party equipped with a deep back-story, a number of gameplay innovations, and enough unique flair to make for stiff competition for the upcoming HEAVY GEAR II and MECHWARRIOR 3. Only time will tell how long STARSIEGE will stay at the top, but right now, the view from here is spectacular.

Just when you thought there was nothing new to be done in the giant robot genre, Dynamix has given us a great title that features excellent graphics, well-developed missions, and a level of detail and history that is rarely seen in a game. It may not be perfect, but it blends all the best attributes of previous games into one rock solid package. Bottom Line: Excellent graphics, well designed mission structure. AI for both enemy and squadmates is well above average. It is difficult to find a comfortable control scheme. Starsiege stands head and shoulders above its competition, and sets a new standard for the genre.

I usually hate mech games but I liked this one. Want to know why? It's the first one that I've played where I actually feel like I am part of the story, plus fairly simple multiplayer setup that was fantastic, and I really couldn't find that much for me to complain about. The only complaint that I've been able to come up with is that they could of done more with the world, like Tribes is just sort of in the middle of no where, very barren, with nothing besides it but endless plains of dirt or snow. But that's besides the point. Starsiege is solid, and I would have to recommend it to most people, especially the mech fans.

In the end, Starsiege is a good game that is humbled by only a few flaws. At least until Heavy Gear 2 and Mechwarrior 3 come out, Starsiege is great fun and an easy recommendation for all fans of giant robot PC combat. Perhaps Starsiege 2 (which is apparently already in the works) will perfect the formula. There certainly is enough here to work with - great action, luscious graphics, and one of the most developed background stories outside of Wing Commander. If stomping around in oversized forklifts, kicking much ass, and boosting your ego through tonnage is your thing, purchase this puppy and give it your sweet lovin'.

Dynamix has turned out a game that delivers with top-notch graphics, fun gameplay and a well-developed storyline. The strong AI for both enemy and teammates is a huge plus, making the single-player mission much more enjoyable. The game isn't perfect, but overall it's a rock-solid package that will provide hours of fun play. The difficulty in configuring a comfortable control scheme could make it frustrating for new players to get started, but it's worth it to take the time. Starsiege stands proudly among the best of the entries in the "mech" genre -- I heartily recommend picking it up.

Game Over Online
Overall, I, for the most part, liked what I saw. If the glitches that really bothered me were fixed, I'd definitely enjoy it a bit more. It's not quite the quality of Mechwarrior, so if you're looking for the real meat and bones combat sim, I'd suggest waiting for Heavy Gear 2 or Mechwarrior 3. If you'd like something slightly less complex, that runs good on your Voodoo, has good multiplayer, and isn't much too difficult, Starsiege may just be worth a look.

Starsiege is a fun game that looks and plays great. This is for anyone who even remotely likes mech games and even for those who have never ventured into 3D combat. This title does not disappoint in any way, and only can surprise with the level of detail in the graphics, gameplay, and even the universe itself. Both single and multi-player are a lot of fun and are sure to entertain anyone for hours on end with the unlimited number of playing styles and strategies. The bottom line is that this is a good game.

1) Если вы — тормоз и ждете-не дождетесь пока игрушку испоганят русским подстрочником и морем глюков упившиеся слесаря из “локализаторских” контор, а потом пролетаете несколько уровней с чит-кодами, говорите скучно и хапаете ГЭГ без пингвинов, а потом следующую, и следующую — до свидания, ламеры, вы не в тот паровоз сели;

Playing Starsiege is like owning a black car — nothing shows the shine or the scratches quite like it. There is a lot to be said for the game both positively and negatively. Dynamix was smart to release Tribes first, as I’m sure its coattails will bring in many players to Starsiege.

By no means is Starsiege a bad game. I enjoyed going through the single player levels and learning more about the story as I went along. Toying around with vehicle configurations is a joy in and of itself for Type A personalities like me. However, it's difficult to overlook the blasé dueling mechanisms, and their extreme dependence on weapon loadout. It seems to me that just a couple of weeks in a mass beta test might have ironed out some of the weapon issues, and possibly the aiming accuracy issues with some of the weapons. Unfortunately we don't grade by "coulda, woulda, shoulda" and as it stands, Starsiege is a better than average game with some flaws.
