If only all games were as good as Startopia. The absolute number of tasks that you must undertake may seem daunting at first, but it eventually manifests itself into fun and enjoyable gameplay. The attention to detail is really what makes Startopia shine, and, along with superb graphics and pleasurable features, makes it a must-have for any gamer. So go out and buy Startopia today; the Sirens are waiting for you.

Startopia is an excellent effort from Mucky Foot. Humour - GOOD humour - is hard to get across in entertainment software, but Startopia succeeds in not only being a fun game, but a funny game. I ran my copy on a AMD 1.2 with a Geforce 3 in 1024 x 768, and it chugged very rarely. Unfortunately the anemic manual makes it more difficult than it should to play Startopia...but it's still enjoyable. In fact, I'm going to mess around in sandbox mode some more once I finish this review, and that's probably the best accolade I can give.

For me startopia is a great game, I cant find any faults with it at all, the game never crashed for no reason, it did when I screwed up the PC, but we wont go into that. Startopia is a game you definitely must try at least once and I can almost (that’s almost) guarantee you will love it!

Startopia is an absolutely incredible game that most people know nothing about. If you have the means and the inclination, definately get this game.

If you’re a fan of the management sim genre, you’ll find a lot to love in Startopia. Mucky Foot took the successful elements of its predecessors, added a few new ideas, polished em all up, and crammed em into a beautiful and challenging package. This is one of those games that will make you lose track of time completely. It takes a lot of focus to get all the aspects humming like a well-oiled machine, and Startopia manages to keep it fun the whole way through. The flexibility of Startopia is perhaps its greatest strength. Where others in the genre have forced you to go about making a profit a specific way, Startopia has opened the doors completely. Whether you want to be a Captain Kirk-like hard nosed thug, or a Captain Picard-like peacemaker, the choice is up to you.

Goed, nu nog even m'n vakantie annuleren...

Startopia represents a paradigm shift from a single playing field to three or more. Gamers have to balance developing existing areas with expanding into new ones to achieve success. Finding the perfect balance isn't easy, but those who do will discover a subtle style of gameplay that demands more than other programs of the genre. While not for the uninitiated, the title is well worth the time and energy invested in learning. Any manager worthy of his or her salary should be reprimanded for missing this one.

Startopia is more of a toy than a game in the traditional sense of the word, and playing with your aliens and messing around in their world can be a lot of fun, even without the pressure of rival managers to defeat. It's not a game that takes itself too seriously either, from the parody of 2001 in the opening cinematic to the alien visitors who list their hobbies as mutilating cattle and hovering over Mexico City. And although every station is exactly the same size and shape, the variety of missions included and the endless permutations available in the sandbox and multiplayer modes mean that you aren't likely to get bored in a hurry. One of the best strategy games we've seen so far this year, and also one of the funniest.

So, if you’re like me and you’ve grown tired of Blade of Darkness (Doesn’t this damn game ever end?), or you’re waiting for Duke Nukem Forever or Max Payne (keep waiting), you’ll find Startopia a nifty diversion. There are probably those who will argue that, as I’ve mentioned, all the pieces of Startopia have been done better elsewhere. I’ll argue that it’s the combination of these that makes it unique, gutsy, and yes, a heck of a lot of fun.

Well I just totally lost track of time. You see I was deep in the process of creating a fully functioning wacky little port on a space station in order to grab as much of it as possible before the computer could claim most of the station as its own. The name of the game is Startopia and it's a whole bunch of fun. Mucky Foot has put together a pretty, well designed, interesting, detailed economic/building sim with enough character to attract even the dead guy that tried to take my job.

Honestly but also surprisingly Startopia is a great game. I think Startopia deserves high rating, though the game could be a bit longer (30 missions would be OK). If you are a true gamer, and like this genre, then 100% buy this game.

Gameplay und Technik stimmen also – was will man mehr ?

Startopia is a solid product, full of the intrigue, diversity and management decisions that are the hallmark of terrific simulation games. There is humor, aside jokes, great graphics and audio, and solid gameplay elements in place. The missions may be nearsighted in regards to the time it takes to accomplish them, but the supporting factors, which allow for extended play, are great reasons to visit this out-of-this-world locale time and again.

The game's whole atmosphere is highly entertaining, and when you finish the missions, you can continue to relish it with online multiplayer and a full-featured sandbox mode that brings together all you learn in the missions. As with many management/god games, Startopia's gameplay can begin to feel a bit like lazy, aimless fiddling at times. Unlike similar games such as The Sims, Startopia lacks the focus of a few central, tragicomically human characters that you can relate to and care about. It's also a real shame that Mucky Foot put so much work into the game only to let it ship as such a poorly documented, initially user-unfriendly experience. Still, with its diversity, engaging style, and sly sense of humor, Startopia has plenty to offer. Where else can you watch two-headed aliens dance the night away in a disco you built in space?

Startopia is very enjoyable overall, and even on a surface level, you'll find yourself consistently engaged by the number of tasks always at hand or just by watching the aliens go about their business on your station. It takes the best ideas of the management game genre and improves upon them while still remaining simple to play. And it's probably an even better game if you have the inclination to learn all of its ins and outs through continuous observation. It's a testament to Startopia's fundamentally sound design and attractive presentation that you'll enjoy it despite the fact that, at times, it'll make you feel slightly alienated.

But with plenty of control, tons of humor and great visuals, Startopia turns out to be an awesome experience in space. Strategy gamers will definitely be pleased - just hope your computer doesn't flip out and do something drastic. It's been known to happen, y'know.

With comedic relief similar to that within Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, you never really know what bizarre event will occur next. The fast-paced play and high difficulty level will keep you on your toes, and the varying objectives keep the game fresh. If you tire of Bullfrog and Maxis’ works, I strongly urge you to give this offbeat release a chance.

Computer Gaming World (CGW)
This easily could have degenerated into little more than PIZZA TYCOON in space, but for the sure hand of Mucky Foot, a team of ex-Bullfroggers (many of whom worked on the similar THEME PARK). From annoyances like litter and sick patrons to the “guest” who simply will not he happy no matter how many brothels and Slugpartments you build, this has many of the classic Bullfrog elements—and some of the flaws. Most detrimental to the entire experience, however, is the lack of a usable manual. Eidos has included a jewel-case afterthought that treats actual information as some rare commodity to be doled out sparingly. The interactions of aliens and structures—indeed, even the functions of certain structures—go largely unmentioned. It’s irritating, hut it doesn’t keep STARTOPIA from being a fresh, often funny entry in the management genre.

Gameplanet
Overall, Startopia is a great game. Yes it does have it's faults but nothing so major as to destroy the true genius lurking beneath the surface. There are just so many things about it that just cannot be described in a few sentences; it is these little details that will likely have you tinkering and experimenting for hours. If you are looking for a game involving the traditional tank rush, or quick conquest of territory then this is most likely not for you. Startopia is a refreshing game with a mix of resource management, sim style planning and humour to boot.

All in all, Startopia is very playable and is sure to get your attention. However, the relatively small number of mission, and the occasionally dull atmosphere may cause that attention to become short-lived...

Computer and Video Games (CVG)
If you can stand the painful beginnings and the awkward interface, Startopia will reward you with a cute but tough and unusual take on the god gaming genre. But don't be fooled into expecting the impact and humour of Dungeon Keeper, or the soap opera familiarity of The Sims. It's good, but it's not that good.

Despite these challenges, StarTopia is a rewarding game, made even better because Muckyfoot has released modding instructions — there are some really good user-created missions already circulating on the Web. Also, the first patch is already out, and it makes light-years of difference in speed of play, especially on Windows ME. In all, this is a solid game that should find a permanent spot on most sim gamers’ hard drives — it’s just that easy to come back to, and that easy to play for hours on end.
