The next best thing to the arcade, Steel Talons on the Lynx is done complete justice. This game fortunately does not suffer from the chop found in Hard Driving. The control is excellent, and as always on the Lynx, the voice is clear and precise. How do they do this on the Lynx?!

The first polygon game on the Genesis that doesn't make me want to throw my controller! Talons mixes simulation and shooting very well and gives you 3 play choice and 2 viewpoints creating a lasting challenge and an impressive overall package...The best in it's class.

Though the complexity of this type of simulation tends to turn some gamers off, Steel Talons keeps things simple by presenting a lot of information in an extremely concise manner. The on-screen speed and altitude indicators are as unobtrusive as can be, yet they give you all the information you could possibly need in just a casual glance. This is a very classy game, one that took me completely by surprise.

Steel Talons isn't a fast-paced shooter like Blue Lightning, Turbo Sub or Afterburner; it's a quasi-military-grade flight simulator that requires patience and strategy. Though the frame rates can get grating on the nerves and the time limits are challenging, Steel Talons provides a decent bang for the buck, and proves that the Lynx still has the horsepower to kick out some unique-looking games.

If you love polygons and your dying to see some on the Lynx, then by all means, go for it. There's a very playable game that can be picked up and played for marathon sessions or just a quick time killer. Honestly, if it wasn't for the frame rate issues, this would be a killer-app for the too-short lived Lynx. If your desperate for flight on the go, dig up Blue Lightning first.

The polygon graphics in this game, while relatively unique for the time period, are not much to look at. The helicopter looks like something from an Intellivision game, and the various landscapes are plain and ugly. Also, the controls are unresponisive. Tengen jumped the gun and should've left polygon graphics for future, more powerful game systems. The graphics are so choppy that many times you can't tell in what direction you are shooting and whether or not you are going to hit a target. Steel Talons was a decent arcade game that probably never should've been converted to the Sega Genesis.
