This is one beautiful game. The backgrounds don't change between rounds, but they look more scenic and photographic than ever before. Loading time is practically non-existent. A brand new feature is that you are graded after each match. This is an awesome 2D fighter. If you enjoyed SFIII Double Impact, don't hesitate to pick up Third Strike.

Die-hard fans will certainly enjoy their time here. There's never been a better time for "If it ain't broke, don't fix it." Still, even those fans will have a hard time arguing that something different should've been done with the series. The animation is a wonderful change, but it's obvious innovation is lacking if not completely exhausted.. After it's all over though, Street Fighter is Street Fighter, and everyone knows the gameplay is solid as a rock.

On the whole, Street Fighter III: Third Strike in truly an engaging fighter, that is easily worthy of just about anyone's private collection... that is unless you already have Double Impact. Where upon it becomes a different matter entirely. Aimed at the more vicious of gamers who need to have every version of all their favorite titles ever made, this is one of those definitive hardcore titles. If you don't have the Impact disc from a couple of months back go ahead and pick it up, but if you've already nabbed the first game however, scroll on back to the top of the page and reread that definition. You have a decision to make.

Many years from now, when the Dreamcast is but a faint memory, I hypothesize that Sega's pride and joy will be remembered as "the fighting machine." At the pace Capcom's going now, I wouldn't be surprised if the Dreamcast library eventually reaches a mark where 50% of its games are Capcom fighters. In June, Capcom added to its massive collection by releasing Street Fighter III: Double Impact. In the quickest turn around of all-time - three months - Capcom distributed the follow-up, Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike.

Street Fighter III: 3rd Strike is more than another step in the Street Fighter series; it’s the current pinnacle of 2D fighting design. Between a special menu that allows complete control over the rules used in combat and the incorporation of new features found in other Capcom fighters, this title delivers everything a Street Fighter junkie could want. New players will be equally impressed, as the fluid animations, higher-quality sound work and exceptional fighting action will quickly inspire an appreciation for this latest addition to the series. One very important question remains: Is this title worth buying if you already own Street Fighter III: Double Impact? The answer, sadly, is no. There’s not enough new here to warrant the expense unless you’re one of the many collectors who relish every tweak in the new versions.

Although it doesn't have the sheer number of fighters that MvC2 does, nor the expansive options and secrets of Alpha 3, I still think Third Strike is worth it. Its an arcade-perfect adaptation, and perfect when you just want to jump into an arcade fight.

Bien sûr, d'aucuns lui préféreront le côté spectaculaire d'un Marvel vs Capcom 2 New Age of Heroes ou Capcom Vs SNK : Match Of The Millenium.

With all these good Dreamcast fighters, both 2D and 3D, Street Fighter III is a hard game to recommend. It's not the worst fighter, but if you've been waiting for years for a sequel, well, you better buy Capcom vs. SNK 2 instead.

DreamcastThe Next Level
Without a doubt, Third Strike certainly offers much more than what's available in the Double Impact package...despite the 2-for-1-deal to boot. With an extensive array of playable characters, an enhanced training mode, and a network mode which certainly needs to be implemented when the game arrives domestically; Third Strike is a solid fighter which can be enjoyed by the casual and hardcore players alike. Not to mention Chun Li is back, a plus if you're definitely fond of the popular female fatale like myself. Street Fighter aficionadoes owe it to themselves to add this to their current lineup, while newcomers can embrace the game and discover another title offering solid gameplay and hours of entertainment.

Hot on the heels of Capcom's double whammy of Street Fighter III action, Double Impact, comes 3rd Strike, the third game in the Street Fighter III series. While the two releases are roughly the same, 3rd Strike delivers new characters and enough new options to make it a worthwhile product, even if you already own Double Impact.

Lamentably, even the most devout aficionado would agree that little has changed between chapters, save minor tweaks to the fighting system. While there are new characters to give the illusion of progress, many will find themselves returning to the undeniable balance of Ryu, Ken or Gouki when engaging in multiplayer bouts. In light of such token modifications, it will be down to the series’ familiar formula to secure its success, all other elements ultimately rendered cosmetic distraction. At heart, Street Fighter III 3rd Strike is Street Fighter by any other name, and despite its self-defined constraints, this alone will be the measure of its worth.
