Street Racer

Street Racer is an ultra-addictive game. There is just the right amount of competition to keep you coming back for more. The short tracks were a bit disappointing but can be made up for by selecting races to go up to 80 laps. If you have never played a Kart type game, this one is as good as any with the added element of combat. I really like the comical fighting aspect of Street Racer. This keeps you in check and reminds you that this game is not trying to be a serious racer but a lighthearted exercise in fun. That is, after all, the reason we play games, isn't it?

While not nearly as popular as fan favorites Super Mario Kart and Mario Kart 64, Street Racer isn't too far behind in either quality or fun-factor.

Unfortunately, Street Racer isn't perfect. The characters aren't quite as cool as those in Mario Kart and the game's graphics just aren't as soothing. But, if you want to have a party, get yourself Street Racer, a multi-tap and some extra controllers. Just remember when you're having fun not to spill anything on the carpet.

With good four-player action, Street Racer is a hip-hoppin', goal-scorin', car-smashin' game that will entertain racing and fighting fans alike.

At the time the game wasn't quite original, and it is even less so now, but it still manages to be great fun, and isn't that what really matters?

This is one fast-paced comical racing game. You get to race, play soccer, or be in a bumper car contest. What else can you ask for? The driving perspective runs smoothly, with great sounds in the background. Tons of great tracks to race on. Cool game.

Can Street Racer compare to the action and excitement of a three-cylinder suicide machine or does it crash and burn like so many racing games (and so many of my cars) before it? Street Racer is no Geo Metro, however it is still a car load of high-speed action, whether you're racing, playing soccer or fighting.

I don't know why anyone bothered releasing this Mario Kart clone on the Playstation. The developers were able to include a number of different tracks, but the tracks themselves are uninteresting and sometimes even tedious. The special attacks and abilities of the different racers make for some mild amusement, but it wears thin quickly. If you liked Mario Kart and you want to play it on the Playstation, this is your best bet. But if you're looking for real racing excitement, look elsewhere.

Street Racer is a game which has its merits, especially in multiplayer, but it doesn't quite match up to the original Mario Kart. If you are prepared for an unoriginal, not-professional racing game there is definitely some fun to be had. But overall, it is maybe a bit too short lived due to the more attractiveness of professional games such as Sega Rally, Daytona USA and Manx TT.

Schnell, bunt und hektisch ist Streetz Racer, für Konvertierungen von Konsolenspielen ein echtes Kompliment. Allerdings hat man auf dem PC exakt das gleiche Spielsystem mit exakt den gleichen Features und exakt der gleichen Spielbarkeit schon vor langer Zeit unzählige Male gesehen. Für derart schlichte Rennspiele fehlt offenbar der Mut zu Innovationen, da Fahrgefühl oder realistische Grafiken kein Ding der Unmöglichkeit sein sollten.

Street Racer's not a bad rental, it's just not unique or funny enough to warrant a purchase.

Like it's 32-bit cousin, this cool little racer gives you lots of ways to race. Compete in road races against another driver or against a whole field; play soccer, using your car to nudge the ball into the goal; or try Rumble, a brutal spring around a circular track. The characters are cartoony and the racing's decent. Multiplayer racing is an option if you have a Game Link.

Bis auf den (auf PCs eher selten zu sehenden) Splitscreen-Modus kommt bei mir keine echte Freude auf. Das Rennen ist technisch ordentlich umgesetzt, die Menüs und ein paar Kleinigkeiten am Rande erinnern an die Abstammung des Spiels von 16-Bit-Konsolen. Witzig und mit Liebe zum Detail wurden die einzelnen Fahrer mit ihren Spezialwaffen und Animationen eingebracht. Alles in allem ist Street Racer solider Durchschnitt.

If you're looking for a little quick-fix kart racing, Street Racer will do the trick. But it's doubtful the game will provide any long term excitement. It's good enough for a weekend rental, but not much more.

Well done chaps, you've made a crap racing game with some nice backgrounds. Money well spent on the development then. If this is sounding particularly venomous then I do apologise. It's a big game and it could have done a lot to boost people's confidence in the Amiga games scene. I could not recommend anyone shelling out the £15 quid or so they're asking for this.
