Whenever the best video games are discussed, Mario's assorted adventures are frequently mentioned. Super Mario RPG is a worthy addition to this list, bringing together the best of two popular gaming institutions while wowing the senses with great visuals and sound.

If you missed it on the SNES, now is the time to play one of the most memorable chapters in not just RPG history, but gaming history. Sure it's kind of on the easy side and the graphics look muddy by today's standards, but none of that really matters. Combining the whimsical characters and locales of the Mario series with the gritty storytelling and battling of Final Fantasy, there's still no game that appeals more to both hardcore RPG fans and casual gamers alike than Super Mario RPG. Geno rules!

Square has amazed me time and time again with what they've been able to do on the SNES, but with the recent announcement of exit stage left, I thought for sure those days were behind me. But with Super Mario RPG is not only everything a Nintendo Mario game should be, but everything a Square RPG should be as well. The two combined equal a game that can only be described as legendary.

So it's absolutely undeniable that Super Mario RPG is worth its asking price of only 800 Wii Points, as it's a classic, deep, fun and cult-appealing installment in the Mario series that no Nintendo gamer should go without playing. Nintendo saved itself a winner to take the honor of the "250th Virtual Console Game" title, and you shouldn't hesistate to download it right away -- because in addition to getting yourself a great game for a great price, you also be showing further support for those other seemingly forgotten games that the fans are still crying out to see come to the VC.

Mario stars in his RPG in the highly anticipated, "Super Mario RPG." Mario RPG was created by proven power houses Nintendo and Squaresoft. They created a jaw dropping game that blends a nice mix of outright humor and incredible story that will keep you playing this game for weeks!

The graphics of Mario RPG is typical of Nintendo, using clean and colorful graphics along with nice animation. The combat engine is similar to many other RPGs and is easy to use. Nintendo put the sound processor to work in Mario RPG, providing a gamer with great sound effects and music. RPG fans will have hours fun and enjoyment with Mario RPG.

Square, well, they are now called SquareEnix, and Nintendo should do this more often. Those two companies struck gold in Super Mario RPG. The entire package from gameplay, controls, sounds, graphics, and all-important story is complete. If we could get more titles like this, gaming would be sweet for sure. Now, if you haven’t yet, get your hands on this game and give it a run, you will definitely not be disappointed.

All in all, Super Mario RPG is a game for the whole family (of gamers that is). The adventure has plenty of size and complexity for the seasoned RPG pro and for the action player, there is a real hands-on, interactive feel. Just as we all knew it would be, this game is everything Nintendo promised.

As for replay value, you won't find much here, aside from a few side quests. Does that really matter when the game will take you tens of hours to beat? I only wish that Nintendo would follow their tradition of porting SNES games to GBA, but this time with one that I'd actually like to play on the road: Super Mario RPG. This is a worthy investment of time and money for any SNES owner.

One of the funniest games. Bar none. The last game in the first era between Nintendo and Squaresoft in 1996 came up with Super Mario RPG, which took Mario into the role-playing world and made everything a free-for-all from there, making Mario the center of a new universe and a bigger world that we had never seen before and letting him loose from there. Mario RPG was well-received in 1996 and, seven years later, that reception has only gotten stronger, with some gamers calling it the best non-Final Fantasy game ever. That may be quite a statement when you compare the game to Chrono Trigger, but there is some decent reason to see why this game would be that highly regarded.

SNESZentendo
One of the SNES's best titles, in my opinion, this fresh new concept for the Mario franchise gets overshadowed by Chrono Trigger too often -- it's just as wonderful a game in its own right and deserves the SNES RPG limelight with the likes of Final Fantasy 6 and Chrono Trigger, it's just more distinct in its flavor. While battles can sometimes get a bit repetitious (as is the case with most RPGs) and some of the isometric platforming elements are less than spot-on

Problems aside, this is one game that’s held up wonderfully over the past twelve years and is probably one of the most worthwhile Virtual Console titles available. Before this week, you could only find this game on eBay probably upwards of its original retail price, so getting it for $8 is an absolute steal. It’s a shame that neither Square nor Nintendo makes games like they used to.

The lack of a unified storyline hurts the overall score of Mario RPG, but the game is still great. Lots of great gameplay and plenty of Mario nostalgia. I recommend this game to any RPG or Mario series lovers. Its simplicity makes it a good game to bring newcomers to the RPG genre as well. You can't go wrong with Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars.

Simple to get into, not too hard to get fully accustomed to, but never so easy as to be boring. Whilst not up able to beat the Square/Nintendo greats, it can certainly sit in their close vicinity!

I can honestly say that I did not plan on seeing a new Mario game until the Nintendo 64 was unveiled. The characters seem too childish for older gamers, but the long adventure itself, that involves actual gameplay and good storyline, will keep many gamers interested. The graphics of Mario RPG is typical of Nintendo using clean and colorful graphics along with nice animation. The combat engine is similar to many other RPGs and is easy to use. Nintendo put the Super NES sound processor to work in Mario RPG, providing the gamer with great sound effects and music. RPG fans will have hours of fun and enjoyment with Mario RPG.

Any Square fan that can stand a bit of cutesy would be well advised to get it, and even if you normally steer clear of such games it wouldn't be a total loss. Perhaps it's not a classic, but it is definitely a milestone in graphical technology and probably changed the way that Square thought about 3D. All in all, it's a good game for Mario fans and a worthy effort all around.

With it now readily available to the gaming public, players owe it to themselves to download this sucker onto their Wii. The title is a meager eight bucks, and while it's recommended that players invest in a classic controller (the necessary run and jump buttons are way too far apart from one another on the GameCube controller, which makes playing with one very uncomfortable), the experience this game offers more than warrants the extra purchase. Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars achieves some truly remarkable things. The minigames, the musical presentation, the way it transports you to a world full of playful smiles and intoxicating happiness; it's so unique in so many ways, and incorporates ideas and themes that rarely make their way into the RPG formula.

SNESConsole Obsession
It possibly may however of been a little lightweight for some hardcore fans of the genre and lacked serious challenge next to other SNES RPGS, but Mario RPG still offered much for the less demanding RPG gamers and at the same time fans of the portly plumber. Not the greatest RPG ever by a stretch, but Mario RPG still stands the test of time as a quality game.

It really feels like a SquareTendo collabo. Classic Mario feel and charm combined with 16-bit Square's penchant for fun, captivating gameplay. On the short side, but regardless I highly recommend it.

So what's wrong with it? Well, nothing if you're a fan of Mario, but what about the average RPG fan? Will he or she get into playing as the Italian plumber? It's hard to speak for everybody, but I found it somewhat annoying. It's an enjoyable game with first-rate production, but I didn't take to the Mario concept. I enjoyed Yoshi's Island tremendously and look forward to Mario 64, but this particular marriage didn't quite work for me. It's still very entertaining however, so if you're not scared away by Mario, dive in and prepare to enter his world.

Though the game may take the novice closer to 20 hours to fringe through the first time, veterans should easily be able to complete this game within twelve to fifteen hours, sans major sidequests and searches for rare items. The time length of the game is unusually short, but don't let that sway you. Super Mario RPG is definitely worth getting out the ol' SNES, dusting it off and taking a weekend to play through. Even though it seems as if this particular game was slapped together to make a quick buck from two particular gaming sub-genres, it is indeed worth at least a rental. Its unique qualities put it right up there with other Square games, and its nostalgic, Mario brand world appeals to Nintendo/Miyamoto fans. Quite simply, Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars... is fun. Break out the cartridge cleaner and feather duster. It's time to go snooping through Princess Toadstool's room.
