Miyamoto could give Peach a tash, make Mario an uber-realistic BT salesman, cel-shade every darned game on the Gamecube; and we wouldn't give a stuff. Simply because, what we have here is beyond doubt the GBA's best game along with Advance Wars; and a heart-warming reminder of by-gone days where Link and the Moomins were never mentioned in the same sentence. Words almost defy me. This is the game to convince young whipper-snappers that 2D is king, or the title to make SNES fans like us weep. An incredibly ambitious, well rounded and superb game. And most importantly now playable on the toilet.
All in all, if you liked the original Super Mario World and you want to revisit a familiar land or if you're not familiar with the Mario franchise and interested in seeing what its all about, its a great game and I recommend you pick it up.
No fim das contas, Super Mario Advance é um jogo que já nasceu clássico. Mesmo uma década depois de seu lançamento, ele continua mais divertido do que nunca. Mal podemos esperar pelos remakes de Super Mario 3 e Yoshi's Island...
Is this game really THAT good to garner a 10 out of 10 rating? Just on pure nostalgia value, no ifs, ands or Koopa butts about it. There’s nothing to complain about concerning this title. It’s pure old-school gaming fun at its finest. GBA owners, this game needs to be in your stockpile. If you haven’t already, go out and buy it now! It’s an instantly classic redefinition of an already classic title from the Golden Age of gaming.
Super Mario Advance 2 offers many things to do and playing through it will bring back fond memories of the Super Nintendo era; even veterans of the game will enjoy playing it over again now that there is a progress sheet included. Getting all of the Yoshi Coins will take some time and probably cause a lot of frustration but it will definitely keep you playing, as I have gone through the game and achieved 100% more than once and I loved every minute of it. The best Mario side-scroller and perhaps the best Mario game ever is now portable and better than ever for you to enjoy wherever you want, anytime. Thank you Nintendo, now all we need from you is an equally brilliant, brand new Mario side-scroller!
SMW GBA even features a multiplayer mode, in the form of a total reinterpretation of the original Mario Bros. Arcade game. You may play Mario Bros. Classic solo or Mario Bros. Battle with 1-3 more friends, via game link cable. Fans of this classic game will rejoice at the inclusion of this feature. However, the majority of you will be disappointed that it is the exact same multiplayer expansion found in the first Super Mario Advance. While it is disconcerting that no new additions or modes have been included, it is at least somewhat satisfying to know that Super Mario Advance and Super Mario Advance 2 are fully compatible in multiplayer.
Through mechanizations most inexplicable, magical beings have managed to cram the original SNES Super Mario World into a GBA cart with enough room left over for a nice assortment of new stuff like special coins and the ability to play any level as Luigi (complete with floaty 2D jumping skills). To make matters even more magical, not one iota of the graphics clean, colorful quality or tight control has been lost in the translation. And there’s even an enhanced copy of the original Mario Bros. arcade game (though it’s the same as in the first Super Mario Advance game) just for kicks.
Avec ses 72 niveaux, ses 24 sorties secrètes et sa maniabilité exemplaire, SMA2 est, à ce jour, le meilleur jeu de plate-forme 2D.
Considering the ease at which SNES
games can be ported to the GBA,
it was somewhat inevitable that
Super Mario World would appear.
And rightly so. It is one of the greatest
2D platformers ever made and feels perfectly at home on Nintendo’s dinky
handheld. The music may not sound as
great as the original SNES, but it’s a small
quibble when you’re getting 96 of the
mostly perfectly designed levels that the
genre has ever witnessed. Add in little
touches like the ability to play as Luigi and
the added inclusion of the original arcade
Mario Bros and you have one of the
GBA’s finest moments.
I know that Andy, as well as many of you, are screaming for a new GBA Mario, I, for one, can keep beating all 96 of Mario World's stages till the cows come home, and am perfectly happy waiting. Nintendo has another must-have cart on its hands.
The game holds up fabulously, and the slight modifications that Nintendo has made to the game for its handheld release make it even better.
Super Mario World is the fourth game in the Super Mario Bros. series. The game was originally released on the Super Nintendo a decade ago, serving as a pack-in for the system. In many ways, the game is merely a refinement and expansion of the concepts introduced to the series in Super Mario Bros. 3. Still, the game served as an excellent way to usher in Nintendo's new system. Now, Nintendo is cashing in on its past successes by delivering a version of its amazing platformer for the Game Boy Advance. The game holds up fabulously, and the slight modifications that Nintendo has made to the game for its handheld release make it even better.

The biggest addition to the Mario gameplay, though, is the introduction of Yoshi to the gameplay. By hatching an egg, you can ride on the back of the dinosaur, using his big feet to stomp on previously hazardous enemies, or his tongue to swallow smaller bad guys. And if you unlock the special Star Road levels, you can gain access to the different colored Yoshis, each having their own special abilities after eating Koopas.
It's easy to see and play on the Game Boy Advance and will have you playing and re-playing for years to come.
Super Mario World will grab your gaming heart and never let go, but make sure you enjoy every moment - the grip will never again be as tight as the first time around.
The Game Boy Advance conversion, Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, is just as much a testament to how the original's classic gameplay can hold up to today's standards as it is a testament to how well the GBA can simulate SNES development. The game, even in portable form, retains the exact same look and feel of the Super NES original, from the graphics and sound, to the clever use of hardware special effects...and with all this in place it's still a brilliant platformer more than ten years later.
One of the major criticisms of SMA2 is the fact that neither SMW nor the additional Mario Bros multiplayer game is original. And with the truckload of reworked retro titles that have been flooding onto GBA, like Gradius, ISS, and all the greatest hits packages, surely we have to recognise simply re-releasing a classic SNES game on GBA is lazy. It's this that brings Mario down to a nine instead of a ten. But don't get us wrong, SMW is a near flawless game, and has hardly aged in terms of playability and boasts more levels and action than you can shake a mouldy mushroom at. It may be old but SMA2 will fill your handheld world with utter joy.
Perhaps the worst thing about Super Mario Advance 2 is that it leaves you learning for a new 2D Mario game, hopefully theyâre listening and it wonât be too long. Also the same original Mario Bros game which featured on Super Mario Advance has been lazily put on, surely we could have had an original take on the game instead.
As nice as it would be to see a proper purpose-built Mario game on the GameBoy Advance, in its absence Super Mario World is the best we could have hoped for. And very, very enjoyable it is too.
As for replay, this game seems to have a bit less than the first Mario Advance game. Sure, there is the goal system, which offers a reward after finishing all of them, and the Yoshi coin system, which the Red "A" Coin collection system from the first Mario Advance game was based on. Also, the side-game "Mario Bros. Classic" from the first game returns, which adds a multi-player feature, which was removed from Super Mario World.
Super Mario World is basically just a larger, prettier game than the earlier Mario Bros. games on the NES. The port that Nintendo did is very good; there is no slowdown and only a few issues that occur. One of these issues would be that the GBA screen is too small. Often levels are in caves, and you can't see from the roof of the cavern to the floor. Often you jump, and a bird will fly down and hit you and you will die. This also occurs in castles, but to a lesser extent.
Some will view the GBA rendition of SMA2 in disdain but the strength of the title's basic concepts and rudiments help make it an entertaining title on new hardware as well as in our new 3D-crazed era. In this respect, SMA2 represents a landmark title for the GBA. On the one hand, it is an elegiac tribute to the original developers of the title.

While there are arguments that Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 breathes new life into the 2D gaming genre, I highly doubt that this title is capable of that. First, this is not a new game. It's been around for a over a decade, and the fact that a game of this caliber has to be rehashed in order for the kiddies to appreciate it doesn't wash. Secondly, while Super Mario Advance 2 represents the Golden Age of gaming on a smaller screen, this game is not anything but what it was to gamers 10 years ago -- one terrific good time.
Mario Advance 2 is enjoyable, but those reasonably familiar with Super Mario World should probably just rent the English version in a few months. Newer Mario fans will find countless hours in this little pack, despite the fact that it’s an obvious quick buck, and importing the game is a realistic option. For the many with previous experience, though, there is way too little to do, and those who buy the game will likely be disappointed.
When all is said and done, what you get in Super Mario World is a good port of the SNES game. Luckily this is one of the best action-platform games ever released. Now you can take it anywhere and play it anytime you like. This game still manages to pack in the fun and is simply a joy to play. I?m looking forward to Mario Advance 3, which will be a port of Super Mario Bros. 3, my favorite Mario game of all time. In the meantime this game delivers the goods, especially to those who have never before played Mario World before.
Also, since the game is only one player, they gave Luigi his attributes from Super Mario Brothers 2 and give you the option of switching characters between levels. This makes some parts easier also, but if you do it differently, and play through once with each, it can add to the replay value, which otherwise depends on your wanting to play through again and again, which you will since that's the nature of the older gameplay based games. If you have never played this game before, you owe it to yourself to pick up this version.
