Wer sich nur ein Spiel für die Virtual Console zulegen kann, muss hier einfach zuschlagen - denn das hier ist es, das Spiel für die sprichwörtliche einsame Insel. Besser werden Jump’n’Runs nie mehr!

The "world" is huge compared to previous Mario games, with a nice variety of settings including my favorite - haunted houses! A battery backup allows you up to save up to four games in progress. High in quality and super fun, this should be standard issue for all SNES owners.

While it's not quite as groundbreaking as Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World is more fun than any of its predecessors. And that's what really matters. That, and the fact that it helped to introduce the Super NES, which went on to sell over 20 million units in the U.S.

The dictionary definition of "Killer-App" would probably read Super Mario World were it not just a geek's term for a bloody good game.

Like most Mario games, it has a knack for capturing us and taking us away for hours, days, weeks at a time. The three on the NES all had that uncanny ability to make the real world disappear--but SMW is most ambitious in replacing the drab everyday with its own blue and white world of flying dinosaur friends and other childlike fantasy. SMB3 came close in terms of expansiveness; perhaps it could have been the first true Super Mario land--but SMW will be the world to you.

Mario went into the 16-bit dimension and he made all of his fans smile once again for the second straight year... Super Mario World is either the favorite of the old Mario games or the least favorite. Rarely there is anything in between. Even if the game is your least favorite, though, the game is at the top of the ranks, which is extraordianry. The game redefined everything we thought we knew about the Mario games and put in a little variety and a new character, Yoshi, who is now one of the most beloved Nintendo characters ever.

As you will be aware of by now, Super Mario World is set on an overworld map. Nice and simple every time you complete a level you get to move onto the next one, until you've uncovered the path to get all the way over to Bowser's castle. Of course it isn't quite that simple. Many of the levels have 'secret exits' which require you to do various things in the level to discover. For example Ghost houses often hide a secret exit somewhere inside that just needs to be found like a normal, but other levels may require you to find a key then an exit. This adds another layer to the game, finding all the exits in the game, as stated earlier is quite a tough little challenge, one that you will be rewarded for as well… Well that's about it, all that's left is to go and play the actual game, enjoy it all of you.

This one BIG game it has around 75 different courses for you to complete! Mario also gets a new tool the Cape. With the cape Mario can fly using a special technique. A must buy for all SNES owners!

Here you have it! The ultimate Mario adventure! Super Mario World is a perfect subtitle, with 96 areas to explore! Everything just plain blew me away! Only one game in this genre rates higher in my book, but since tens are impossible, Sonic will have to share the same rating.

Overall, Super Mario World added something for each thing it removed, and it provided a fun experience in the process. If it weren't for Super Mario Bros. 3, Super Mario World would easily reign supreme as the best 2D Mario platformer in existence (and I count New Super Mario Bros. in that statement).

Super Mario World, ou Super Mario Bros.

All in all it’s a frickin' good game hey, especially at the price I got it. Okay, maybe it’s not Nintendo’s best, and people will argue that SMB3 is better or whatever, but I think this is the second best Mario game ever, bettered only slightly by Yoshi's Island: Super Mario World 2... damn I love that game.

In the end, it’s simple – if you enjoy Mario-style platformers, you should own this game. If you don’t already have it on the SNES or GBA, the Virtual Console version is just as good (and arguably ever so slightly better), and this game deserves a spot in your library.

Super Mario World could be argued to take the crown for greatest 2D Mario platformer, and as such earns almost immediate recommendation for download to your Wii. The recommendation is tentatively withheld, however, pending examination of your history of ownership with the game – its ported Game Boy Advance iteration, Super Mario Advance 2: Super Mario World, has become one of the best-selling games of all time on Nintendo's handheld systems since its release five years ago. The portable package is perfectly playable, meaning you should save your Points if you're one of the millions of gamers to own it there, in cartridge form. Otherwise, download away. Especially you, stalwart Sonic supporters – the white flag is waving, the war now at an end. Come experience Mario's adventures, and the debut of his dinosaur friend.

Of course, odds are that many have experienced this game in one way or another over the years, be it with a copy of the original SNES release, or with 2002's fabulous GBA remake. If you own either of those and still have the required systems to play them, this VC version becomes significantly less necessary. However, if you're too young to have played the original game back in the day (or just spent most of the '90s in the era's equivalent of a disco haze) and never got around to picking up the GBA version, there's no excuse not to give Super Mario World a try now.
