Well, to wrap things up...Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a thoroughly enjoyable game. It scores big points as a two-player title and holds it's own in the one-player field. It takes the classic gameplay elements of Tetris and transforms it into something new and exciting. And hell, any company that has a good enough sense of humor to poke fun at themselves (the games title says it all), is all right in my book...Nice job Capcom! Now where the hell is Resident Evil 2...

It's amazing how well Puzzle Fighter captures the feeling of delivering the knockout blow. It's our puzzle game of the year and a game every Playstation owner will enjoy.

Ok, so we've figured the game doesn't look great, slows down, and has simplistic gameplay. Look at it this way....so does Tetris. As a true classic that is highly underrated and never recieved the credit it deserved, any gamer owes it to themselves to find a copy of the game. The sheer joy (or furstration) of sending a screen full of gems over to your ooponent only to have them break out and use it for the KO is priceless. For those wondering, the Playstation version is identical to the Saturn version, so you'll win either way.

The colorful graphics, Capcom-tight control, and just-fine sounds have been faithfully ported from the PlayStation original, right down to the weird animated nonsense that occurs in the background as your fighters duke it out, though the GBA version struggles with slowdown as the matches get near the end?which isn?t a bad thing, really, since it gives you ample time to think.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is a very addicting game. I love games that allow you to beat up on your buddies by using your mind and skill instead of brute force. There are plenty of game modes to keep you playing into the wee hours of the night. If you are a fan of puzzle games, you will really enjoy this game. It is one of those rare games that can be called fun for the whole family. If you have not played this game, it is definitely worth a look.

Technically, Super Puzzle Fighter II is an excellent port of the PlayStation classic. Judging on the single player mode alone, Puzzle Fighter gets top marks. Unfortunately, the GBA version loses points due to the woefully inadequate multiplayer mode, which severely limits the game’s replay value. If you’re mainly going to play by yourself, then Puzzle Fighter is well worth the $35 investment, especially if you’re new to the game; Puzzle Fighter is one of those few games that anyone must have played in order to truly call themselves a hardcore gamer. However, if multiplayer is what you’re after, the PlayStation version might actually end up being more affordable in a few months than two copies of the GBA version.

Developer Atomic Planet did a wonderful job of bringing Super Puzzle Fighter II over to the GBA. I usually get nervous when I have to deal with a handheld version of a six- or seven-year-old console or PC game. Too often they pale when compared to titles built from the ground up that are designed to take advantage of the GBA's power.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo takes a lot of concentration which is unfortunate as you may be so wrapped up in taking care of your gems and planning strategy of your opponents that you will miss the great character design and animation of the fighters in the middle of the screen. Oh well...I'll survive.

If you've played the original console version of Super Puzzle Fighter, or if you've screwed up your original copy by playing it too often i.e. me, I would highly suggest picking this game up for your GBA library. Even if you've never played any version, frankly I would still suggest in investing in it. Super Puzzle Fighter gets addictive quick, to the point where everything looks like they're made of colored jewels, and everyone looks like a super-deformed cartoon character. Or maybe that's just me.

Femme fatale fighting factor: Grab your girl, plug this game into your PSX, then ignore it while you "wrestle" for a coupl'a hours. If and when you need a rest, wipe the sweat from your brow and play this game. According to Cosmo magazine, your woman WILL play this game. Guaranteed. It's just too good looking to resist, it's funny, and it's charming in that self-deprecating way. Aren't those things that women want in a game? Whoops, I read that wrong. Those are the things women want in a guy. Well, that, and tons of money. And a Ferrari. Lousy stinkin' Cosmo..

If you're already convinced that this is a great puzzle game (as many, many die-hard Super Puzzle Fighter fans will tell you, the GBA version is definitely one to pick up...especially since this is the first time the series has been officially released in the US since the Saturn and PSX (and PC) versions hit the scene more than a half-decade ago. But personally, even though I'll still pick up this game casually every now and then, I'm sticking with the, in my opinion, better-designed Puyo Pop

While it may not be a pixel-perfect port, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo for the Game Boy Advance plays very well, makes a great link cable game, and still stands as one of the best Tetris-style puzzle games ever made. Purists may find the slowdown a little disappointing, but people looking for a great GBA puzzle game certainly won't go wrong here.

Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo is not the perfect puzzle game, but now that it has been re-released through GameQuest, it is worth a look from all fans of puzzle games or those interested in quick, fun titles that anyone can pick up and play. Intuitive gameplay and nearly infinite replay value in the multiplayer mode make up for a lackluster single-player experience. A faithful translation in the upcoming Capcom Puzzle World for PSP would instantly make that one of the best titles for Sony’s handheld. Just remember to have as many people as possible around when you play - it’s more fun in a group, and if you beat a friend you’re not actually better than, they’re less likely to hurt you.

Though the visuals are pretty and the accompanying music sets a good mood, Tetris fans are still better served by, say, Game Boy Tetris (portable and perfect); likewise, Street Fighter fans are certainly better off with any Street Fighter game. But for anyone looking for a Puyo Puyo-esque game with Street Fighter thrown in for good measure, this game will satisfy.

The puzzle genre is an interesting one simply because it resists evolution. While the graphics and sound may improve, the basic premise remains constant: Players drop blocks to block out (so to speak) their opponent. This sameness makes it seem odd that so many puzzle games are released every year - including Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo. But the occasional good puzzle game (like Baku Baku) makes the genre seem fresh all over again.

Most of the sound effects are taken directly from Street Fighter II. An arcade mode allows you to play the CPU for high score, which is recorded to memory card. The CPU opponent is pretty relentless, and if you let him stick around for too long, prepare for an avalanche of counter gems. There's also a head-to-head versus mode and a puzzle mode that lets you unlock goodies. Puzzle Fighter might not be the most addictive puzzle game around, but it may be the most stylish.

I'm as big a puzzle fan freak as one gets. Super Puzzle Fighter is one of the better ones on the market, but it's no super star by any means. The biggest fault this game has is its unbalanced gameplay. I don't enjoy puzzle games that allow you to dump a million garbage blocks on you opponent as easily as SPF lets you do. My next complaint is the all-powerful diamond piece that gives you (albeit weak) automatic combos. Now, on to the good stuff. The different SF characters are fun to watch, and their different puzzle attacks offer a hint of technique. The game is colorful and offers a light, fun time. I recommend it.

The PC port has some mechanical problems. Most importantly, keyboard players are unable to use the space key, the control key, or several other obvious choices. So go ahead and use the Gamepad, people, this is what you bought it for. With its special moves and hyperactive esthetic, Super Puzzle Fighter II Turbo will probably appeal more to fight-game fans than puzzle people, but most folks will still get a "kick" out of it.

PlayStationGame Revolution
It seems a shame to lower the grade of a game that showed so much potential, and for such a seemingly minor flaw. But this 'minor' flaw changed the gameplay dramatically. And suddenly you had to play that way if you wanted to win. And suddenly it wasn't as much fun. And suddenly it wasn't the most popular game in the office any more.
