Here's the only issue – if this game could be so masterfully re-created, so well crafted from a blend of original gameplay and much needed updates, all wrapped in a beautifully hand-drawn package that shines in high-definition wide-screen format – why can't every classic game be remade in such a way? If there is one issue with Super Street Fighter II HD Remix, it is that it makes me upset that every game remake can't be this good.

In recent history, re-releases of old arcade games has been a trend, but it's also been a real non-event. Most of these games received a quick coat of fresh paint, which usually made the game look worse. Things like online play are only included in their basest, most simplified form. HD Remix makes most of those older releases look like cheap cash-ins. It may cost more than most arcade updates available for consoles today, but with the number of important changes being made and its extreme attention to detail, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix sets a new standard for downloadable arcade games... even though I still think Blanka's face doesn't look quite right.

Unlike so many remakes of classic fighters, Turbo HD has soul. You can see it in detailed visuals, crafted by the awesome artists at Udon. You can hear it in the new remixed soundtrack, developed with the help of fans from Overclocked Remix. And you can feel it when you begin noticing the finer tweaks in Turbo HD’s special Rebalanced Mode, which was created with the help of some of the world’s top-ranked Street Fighter players. Capcom has reached out to its fanbase to deliver the kind of game Street Fighter fans want, and it shows in every pixel. For the reasonable price of $14.99 or 1200 MS points, we can’t recommend Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix enough. It’s definitely a must-have title for any self-respecting fighting fan. Period.

But for serious players, those represent just a few of HD Remix's significant, game-changing tricks. Behind all the lush new stage backgrounds, hand-drawn HD character models, and remixed music is a fighter obsessively tuned to what the collective hive-mind of SF2 culture deems "perfection." Of course, it'll be a while before anyone's really scrutinized what all the mechanical tweaks mean for HD Remix's metagame -- are Balrog and Dhalsim (whose nigh-unstoppable throw chains dominate high-level SSF2T play) still the relative kings of the ring? Can the rebalanced (and once egregiously overpowered) Akuma finally stand as a "real" character? Do Cammy and T. Hawk still squarely define the bottom of the barrel? And will the hardcore enthusiasts stand by this new status quo, or simply retreat to the also-included SSF2T Classic mode?

HD Remix -- SF2's sixth iteration, shepherded and meticulously number-crunched by Backbone Entertainment's tourney-pro-turned-game-designer David Sirlin -- is the product of that nearly decade-and-a-half-long dissection. To casual players, HD Remix is a generous facelift with a few fun new moves, something to whet the appetite for Street Fighter IV. Ryu's fake fireball, M. Bison's brief window of immunity during his Devil Reverse, Guile's horizontal-angled roundhouse Flash Kick, T. Hawk's block-safe dive, and Chun Li's now-useful Spinning Bird Kick will all but escape the weekend warrior's notice.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix should be the last we see of the Street Fighter II series; I mean how do you top this? Street Fighter III was perfected with Third Strike and I have yet to play Street Fighter IV so I can’t comment on it, but it does seem to be the future of the Street Fighter series. With HD graphics, a finely remixed soundtrack, and good online gameplay, your $15 is already netting you more fun than most full priced fighting games do.

It isn't every day that a company takes the opportunity to update an old game, even when it promises surefire profits. Doing it well enough to attract more than nostalgic players has proven difficult, time and time again. Capcom knew that it could do better and took every decision seriously, considering factors some companies wouldn't even notice, let alone look twice at, and produced something far, far beyond what even my high expectations could have envisioned.

Excellently implementing the new art and music, SSFII Turbo HD Remix is a superb fighter that will satisfy gamers until they get their hands on Street Fighter IV when it releases in 2009. The single-player is incredibly challenging as is the online multiplayer, so Capcom has given you the chance to reminisce with the beloved series once again and use any one of your favorite 17 characters from the roster. If you’ve never played the title in the past decade, the training mode will help you become familiar with the controls. With that said, you should not skip out on the best fighter of 2008 in the form of Super Street Fighter II HD Remix on the Xbox Live Arcade.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is an absolutely excellent game, download or otherwise. It might not have much in the way of bells and whistles, but it has all of the really important things polished to a near mirror-like shine. Street Fighter II’s gameplay still holds up today, and this new re-tuned and re-drawn version is a must-download for anyone who likes fighting games in the least. It’s a properly updated classic, something that is very difficult to do.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is going to hold us over until Street Fighter IV releases next year and it’ll be an XBLA game we go a few rounds with for months after that. If you have an HDTV and if you love Street Fighter and if you still have $15 to your name in this economy, you owe it to yourself to download SFII Turbo HD Remix, even if it means skipping a meal.

Downloadable games have long ago proven to be a worthwhile feature for both the PS3 and Xbox 360, and Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD does nothing but help solidify the fact. The game is yet another solid entry for the PlayStation Network, and is also a superb way to spend $15. If you weren't around for the Street Fighter days or you've never tried a Street Fighter game before, you really owe it to yourself to do so. This HD remake reminds us just how timeless Street Fighter II really is.

If you're able to look past the drama behind Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix's rebalancing, you'll be treated to a game that's absolutely worth the price of retail—that's selling for below retail. Street Fighter's famous roster looks great with the HD treatment, and much like horses who've been stabled for a long time, they're ready to flex and leap and show off. This is the perfect opportunity to start practicing for Street Fighter IV, so get to it.

For seasoned fans this is worthy of a purchase, but at 1200 MS Points, it is a little at the high end of the Arcade spectrum. It is a polished and solid remake from Capcom and what they have achieved fills a very impressive gap prior to the release of Street Fighter IV. However, if you already have versions of the game downloaded you might pass this time around, but it certainly packs a good punch and sets a new standard for LIVE Arcade remakes.

"Super Street Fighter II HD Remix" atualiza a apresentação de um dos maiores títulos da história, trazendo ainda um novo balanceamento e suporte completo para partidas online, mesmo que com alguns probleminhas - que podem muito bem desaparecer em atualizações - e a falta de outros modos. De qualquer maneira, é um jogo fundamental para a coleção de qualquer jogador de videogame que se preze e, pelo preço de aproximadamente 15 dólares, se torna mais do que obrigatório.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is definitely worth the money if you are a fan of any previous Street Fighter game. If you have never played any in the series before, this would be the most forgiving and easiest to sink into. The online play alone makes the entire game worth the price of admission, because you will always have someone to compete against without having to adjust your strategies to compensate for lag. Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a great game and if nothing else, will keep you busy while you prep for Street Fighter IV.

With HD Remix, it feels like you’re getting the Ferrari of 2D fighters — and it’ll cost you. The game is a moderately pricey $15, and while it’s playable with a standard controller, it pretty much demands a Hori Fighting Stick for the full arcade experience. But on both counts, the payoff is oh-so-worth the sacrifice.

There's no doubt about it -- this is the best version of Street Fighter II that fighting game fans are ever going to get. Everything from the graphics to the tweaks in each character's moveset makes Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix feel like a completely new fighter rather than an updated version of previous SFII titles. Capcom's efforts really stand out in this remake, and after all these years, it's worth both the wait and the price.

All of the changes, all of the tweaks, all of the graphical upgrades, remixed music and refinements to the online experience make SSF2THDR one of the best remakes of a classic game in recent memory. Despite efforts to make it more accessible, it's clearly been designed for the hordes of Street Fighter fanatics that still pump hours into refining their combos and honing their strategies nearly 20 years after the first Street Fighter II game came out. This is one for the fans, and fans will absolutely love it. Take a bow Mr. Sirlin. You done good.

Although Xbox Live Arcade has been creating quite a stir with some of its original games, classic titles updated to SSF2THDR’s level are sure to be a part of this buzz as well. Backbone has added enough enhancements to SSF2THDR to easily make it noteworthy, not to mention worth its asking price; something that isn’t all that common with old ROMs brought to XBLA. If you’re looking for a great warm-up before Street Fighter IV is unleashed, look no further than Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix.

At first glance, Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix gives the impression that it's simply a prettied up version of a fighter you may have bought before or still own. However, there's more than meets the superficial eye here. If anything, it's a reminder of how keeping fighting games as simple and well balanced as possible results in play that feels nearly timeless. Established fans and newcomers alike will find a lot to appreciate in this downloadable title.

SSF2THDR is not only the worlds largest acronym, but also one of the showcases of the Xbox Live Arcade. This is definitely up there as one of the best versions of Street Fighter 2 available and will most certainly keep you occupied until the true sequel is unleashed next year.

While it lacks large amount of modes and options, the ones provided will keep you punching for hours. In addition, online play is excellent, with very little lag. Dipswitch options are also available, in case you feel like modifying your match-ups. Best of all, Capcom included the original Turbo in case you feel nostalgic. Fifteen bucks may seem like a ton of cash for a downloadable game, but this Street Fighter is worth the dough.

HD Remix is, essentially, a tournament player's attempt to fix Super Street Fighter II Turbo. It's a remake of a constantly remade game, and is hopefully the last SF2; I can't imagine anyone improving on this. If you spent any time at all on SF2 as a kid, on your SNES or Genesis or down at your arcade, this is a must-have nostalgia bomb.

HD Remix is a superb edition of a timeless game complete with nearly flawless online gameplay. It is hard not to recommend this game to anyone who enjoys the genre and especially those who frequent the tournament scene. If you are simply a weekend warrior there are certainly better options that will offer you more bang for your button-mashing buck. If you love the series and take it seriously there should be no hesitation; for fifteen bucks SSF2THDR is an absolute steal for either console and the new tweaks will re-ignite your love for the game. Capcom has once again revived a classic and made it relevant for the next generation of systems. Now we can only hope SF IV will be the successor the series truly deserves.

If you've been planning to come back to fighting games and are looking at SSF2T HD Remix to break back into the community, then by all means jump right in. Just be ready for a workout, as the competition is very tough and you've got a long way to go to beat these guys with any kind of regularity. And make sure you get some kind of fighting stick, as the D-pad on the 360 and even the PS3 just isn't quite enough - and hey, it'll still be very useful with SFIV is released early next year. This is absolutely the best Street Fighter seen in years, but just be ready for a beatdown and you'll be fine.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix doesn't have any frills and its mechanics -- while extremely well-tuned -- are simple. This is a game very dissimilar to modern fighters because it doesn't shower you with extra modes, art galleries or unlockables. It's admirably precise and meant for hardcore players, despite its increased approachability. So HD Remix isn't for everyone, but the gameplay represented in this download is extraordinarily balanced and deep. I spent hours learning the ways of the retooled Fei Long and just barely scratched the surface of it all. For such a reasonable price of $14.99, HD Remix is a very hard game to pass up.

It's hard to gauge whether the characters are as meticulously balanced in the Remixed variant as they are in Turbo, simply because there hasn't been enough time to test the tweaks. Still, the overload of edits are welcome additions to an already great game--and since you can drop back into the original Turbo at any time, you aren't forced to relearn your preferred fighter. The extensive alterations are wonderful, giving HD Remix the feel of a straightforward 2D brawler with all the sheen of a brand-new game that's capped off with Street Fighter's venerable depth and lavish presentation. Despite its minor issues, this is one of the finest iterations of Street Fighter to date, and one that any fan of fireballs and fisticuffs shouldn't miss.

Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD Remix is a great addition to the Street Fighter franchise and will keep dedicated fans entertained for a long time to come. Unfortunately though, new players to the title will most likely be deterred by the fairly steep difficulty curve in Arcade Mode, and the fact that the controls are never really explained. The graphics, audio and balance of the game have been greatly improved and with 16:9 support it just makes it that much better.

Still, we'd be boring if we never picked sides, so let's just say HD Remix is a worthy stop-off on the road to Street Fighter IV's console release next February, and a good training ground for anyone who wants to learn or relearn the Street Fighter fundamentals before then. In other words, it's time to brush up on your cross-ups and rush down some Ken-bashing scrubs!

In essence then, the utterly superb gameplay and unrivalled feel of this iteration of the Street Fighter series makes it a nigh-on essential purchase, despite the slightly naff reworked graphics.

So, if you're not really a Street Fighter fan, chances are this won't convert you - it looks nice but still plays largely the same as the original. If you are a Street Fighter fan and you own a 360 (it's exclusive to the 360 outside of America), you've got nothing to lose by downloading the trial. Just keep in mind that the d-pad on the 360 controller is probably the worst thing since cancer (seriously, it's that bad) and that the game has a few issues that really do need resolving. If you're lucky enough to have a decent controller, however, don't let the bugs stop you getting on board - it's solid Street Fighter action to its very core.

With all this time in the oven STHD should have exceeded expectations. The final product however is a mixed bag, with a lot of good ideas and a fair amount of poor implementation. The new graphics and tweaked gameplay could help usher in a number of new players, but the glaring bugs and gimped feature list will annoy the seasoned Street Fighter veterans. Fortunately for everyone, Street Fighter’s core gameplay still prevails and that is really all fighting games are about.

As the Street Fighter IV release approaches, it's nice to see a game like HD Remix hit the digital shelves. Not only will it hold us over until SFIV drops, but it'll also rekindle that SFII flame that has been burning since the early '90s. With all of that said, and while this is definitely the definitive version of Super Turbo, it's still just Street Fighter II with a makeover… a blessing and a curse. Those that love SFII and all its variants will most likely adore HD remix for the fond memory it conjures, but the rest of the gamers out there that still feel the sting of being hundred-hand slapped in the corner until death will most likely relive the trauma and hate Capcom/Backbone for re-opening that old wound. Take it or leave it, this is Super Street Fighter II Turbo as you remembered it.

I wouldn’t pay full price for this game. What I would do is find a good deal on this game, the purchase it. It is worth a shot for the story and a few neat features. But paying full price for what looks like an original Xbox game? It is a crime.
