The game, although very playable, is by no means easy and the first stage may leave you somewhat frustrated after a while. The graphics are very good and fairly well animated. The game will have you coming back for more and will not gather dust in the disc box until completed. I would say this is one for the collection.

Atari STACE (Advanced Computer Entertainment)
There really are several different types of game in one here and each one has been well thought out and programmed. The only major gripe is that it gets tough too quickly. However, with a little bit of practise the variety shows through and makes for a most enjoyable game.

Although it's common for there to be an aural difference between Commodore and Atari games, the degree of difference is rarely this great. In some ways the ST Superman is better than the Amiga version (for instance the slightly slower pace Improves the playability), but the sound is so bad that it tends to let the whole show down.

What does ruin the game is the fact that you are sent right back to the start of level one every time you fail. This ruins the incentive to get anywhere and thus the will to play. Tynesoft would have an excellent game on their hands were it not for this stupid idiosyncrasy.

The only incentive to play is to get a good score - the fun is taken out of the game by having, to all intents and purposes, infinite lives. For Superman to fail (as in the ST game) on cassette versions would mean lots of frustrating tape rewinding and reloading.

Character movement is also slow, as is the control response - which means you have to fire before the enemy is actually in your sights. This is one license that definitely isn't super-powered.
