Syndicate Wars

If you consider yourself a hardcore gamer, and have been disappointed with one aspect or another of most of the software released lately, look no further; you've found your match here. To put it simply, Syndicate Wars is one damn fine game. It's also one tough game. Sure, there are easy missions; but no matter how good you are, you'll eventually run into one which stops you cold for a good while. Most of the time in gaming, this is a bad thing; not here.

Syndicate Wars really does have it all. The more you play it, the better it gets. There's an unbelievable amount of detail packed in there. And an equally unbel-ievable amount of good, honest fun to be soaked up, too. All of you rejoice. Kill, maim, and rejoice.

International corruption, global treachery, corporate crime, strategic scheming, generally running around and raising hell - yes, the original Syndicate set a new standard for strategy games. By combining real-time urgency, high-tech weaponry and terrific graphics, Bullfrog created a classic. Now, with Syndicate Wars, it's produced a sequel that, like the original, is destined to consume far more gaming time than any of us can possibly afford.

Jeg kan lige så godt sige det nu: Syndicate Wars er suværent! Der er så mange gode ting at sige om det, at det ikke kan være på én side. Hvis man bare er lidt interesseret i action/strategi-spil, så kan jeg kun anbefale denne titel.

Syndicate Wars is een waardige opvolger van de originele versie. Deze keer heeft men bij Bullfrog niet de fout gemaakt om alles nodeloos ingewikkeld te maken, maar echt eenvoudig is het nu ook weer niet. Al wie er aan dacht om nog eens met de vinger om de trekker en het verstand op nul alles omver te knallen wat binnen bereik komt, kan beter wat hersenen gaan huren. Het strategische element heeft in Syndicate Wars de bovenhand.

Tag ikke fejl, Syndicate Wars er et fantastisk spil gennemsyret af en dyster atmosfære, og man bliver hurtigt opslugt af gameplayet. Men de nævnte kritikpunkter slår skår i glæden, og det er en skam.

I really liked this game. It is a good sequel worth the investment. The graphics have improved and many more cool items, weapons and extras have been added. Unfortunately, like most sequels, Syndicate Wars is not that "quantum leap" I was hoping for. I thought that three years was enough to totally revamp the engine, which is the kind of change I like to see. I felt like Syndicate Wars was just a great add on to an already great game, and that's not bad, I'm just trying to put this in perspective. If you liked the original, pick up Syndicate Wars, If you have never played the original, get this one anyway, and remember Gamezilla! rates it an 86 out of 100.

Wer Syndicate Wars gespielt hat, setzt in Zukunft nach 22 Uhr keinen Fuß mehr vor die Tür, läßt die Katze im Haus und verschanzt sich fingernägel-raspelnd hinterm Sofa - so eine irra Atmospähre baut sich da auf.

On the whole, Syndicate Wars knows how to motivate players of the original Syndicate for quite a long time, only the high difficulty in later levels and the lack of overview due to the new 3D engine can be disturbing.

Wo viel Licht ist, fehlt selten der Schatten. Wie schon beim Vorgänger werden die hardwarehungrigen Schießereien in späteren Missionen sehr unübersichtlich. Die Autos fahren fest vorgegebene Bahnen ab und können nicht auf der Stelle wenden. Auf Dauer ist mir das Spiel zu actionlastig, die Abwechslung trotz Mondszenario und einigen Spezialgegnern wie den Assassinen zu gering. Das nimmt dem Spiel aber nichts von seiner düsteren Faszination. Wer Syndicate 1 mochte, wird dem Nachfolger einen Schrein errichten.

The original Syndicate detailed a future gone mad, where rival corporations vied for global control through production of mind-altering microchips. From the ashes emerged the ultimate victor, EuroCorp. The world is now firmly nestled in EuroCorp's grasp - but a technologically superior religious sect hopes to undermine their authority through a powerful computer virus. Assume the role of either a EuroCorp Executive or a Church of the New Epoch High Disciple in Syndicate Wars; this sequel plays not unlike the original real-time action strategy game, in that the player commands a quartet of self-sufficient, heavily armed cyborg enforcers in an isometric cityscape to perform any number of violent assignments.

An die Klasse des Vorgängers Syndicate reicht Syndicate Wars nicht heran. Zu viele störende Designfehler, wie etwas unausgewogene Missionen, trüben den Gesamteindruck. Dafür stimmt die Präsentation: Graue, verregnete Städte, dynamische Lichteffekte, spektakuläre Explosionen und der nervenaufreibende Soundtrack verströmen Endzeitstimmung pur.

Tyvärr har man inte tillräckligt bra koll på läget i Syndicate Wars. Man ser för lite av sin omgivning, och radarn är heller inte så tydlig som den skulle kunna vara. På det stora hela taget är föregångaren faktiskt att föredra, trots den snygga grafiken i Syndicate Wars.

Syndicate Wars has a detailed plot and a lot of gameplay so it will involve you for quite a while. If you've played Syndicate and loved it or if you just like games with dark, world-dominating plots and extreme levels of violence, you will enjoy this game. While excellent fun, the game still falls way short of Syndicate graphically and in my opinion that is unforgivable so I'll have to give a very average 3.

The main problem with this game is the controls - it sorely needs a keyboard. There are so many different button combinations to do the most essential things that it seems like you're playing Street Fighter. If you're willing to take a lot of extra time to learn the game, you might find Syndicate Wars satisfying. Otherwise, be prepared to get very frustrated.

Fans of real-time strategy games will probably want to check this title out, but there just isn't enough here for the casual gamer that can't be topped by the PlayStation version of Command & Conquer.
