The games are accessed through a nifty menu screen featuring a killer techno soundtrack. There is some bonus material, but it's generally limited to text and sales flyers. Each game is fully configurable, and high scores and settings are saved to memory card. Initially all games are set to "easy" difficulty, but I'd recommend bumping them up to medium. When it comes to value for your money, you really can't beat a massive compilation like this.

It may not sport as many instant classics as its wonderful predecessor, but that does not mean that Taito Legends 2 is not worth owning - far from it, in fact. There is a staggering 39 titles, many of them pure gold. If we have any complaints, it is the same as those the original compilation suffered. you cannot reconfigure buttons, some of the games are not perfectly emulated as we would like and the lack of a Tate mode on the vertical games is a real shame. These slight issues aside, you will discover one of the best value for money compilations since the original Midway Arcade Treasures.

Taito Legends is an ideal game collection, right up there with Capcom Classic Collection. It's got a wide variety of titles that guarantee hours, if not days and weeks, of play, and the options are astounding. Furthermore, it complements the classic gamers out there with bits and pieces to test their trivia-filled minds. So I don't mind giving it a high honor since it's done so much for us. Some people may not get it, but those who pick up the title and invest in an all-night session of Bubble Bobble are certain to agree.

Taito has shown us all just how to put a retro compilation together and Taito Legends is arguably the best of the bunch. Not only do you get some of the most stunningly playable titles from gaming history, with a simple and easy way to select them, but also a wide selection of bonus features with which to keep real retro fanatics' juices flowing. Taking into account the budget price this compilation hits the shops at, and the sheer number of incredible games within, Taito Legends is an essential purchase for all, for those of us who remember most of these titles at their original release, down to newcomers to the gaming fraternity who need to sample some true gameplay; it's one history lesson that I guarantee you won't find boring!

For anyone with the inclination to be educated in how games used to consist of pure gameplay magic, or for those who wish to revisit their gaming pasts, Taito Legends is a superior collection of titles, some of which are truly classics in the absolute sense of the word.

Taito Legends is particularly exciting for the retro fanatics as there are some true gems in there – games absolutely worthy of being described as classics. Naturally, there’s a ton of filler too, but even the crappier efforts afford an enlightening glance back at a long gone era.

Taito Legends has some great games in it, especially for those that either have a flair for the nostalgia, or who truly want to see what it was people like me grew up playing. And like other compilations you can look at original posters, cabinet pictures, and extra information about each game. You can setup the original aspect ratio of each game so you can see it in it's original form. And you can check out developer interviews and other Taito related stuff. If you want to play some great classic arcade games, this is your game.

At around £15, the price is right and Taito has pulled us all a cracker from gaming history, in one of the most well-balanced and well-priced classic compilations of the lot. This heartwarming gestalt is a lovely and joy-bringing piece of our history, and anybody who ever popped a shiny round coin in any one of these machines' welcoming slots owes themselves a copy, today. Your nostalgia glands will thank you for it. And remember, if you take the duck over the finishing Kiwi in 2:1, there's a warp to 3:4. A bit of a word to the wise.

Taito is a gaming company that has been around for years. You might be scratching your heads wondering who they are, well let me tell you the one game that made this company famous: Space Invaders. This company has made plenty of great games that spans from the beginning of gaming. The popular trend it seems lately is to release a “collection” of classic games and release it on current generation systems, and they wanted to cash in on this trend as well and thus Taito Legends was born. Read on to find out more about this collection of classic Taito games.

There are really two reasons to pick up a classics compilation. The first is to take a trip down memory lane with some older software, and the second is to fill in the gaps of a game library with a collector's item. While Taito Legends contains some great examples of early arcade magic, it mainly caters to collectors with a clean presentation and an assortment of extras.

For $20, Taito Legends comes packed full with 29 classic coin-ops that players can check out on their Xbox console. While most of these games probably won’t get much more than a few plays just to check them out, there are a handful of great games that have stood the test of time, particularly for anyone who actually remembers playing them when their were originally released. For those of you who were too young to have enjoyed them years ago, you might find yourself wondering what their appeal could have been. Retro fans will easily drop $20 to secure themselves a piece of gaming history while more casual fans will most likely better served giving Taito Legends a rental, but either way, it’s money well spent.

There's plenty of good, plenty of bad and plenty of weird on Taito Legends. The games are reproduced well, too, if not precisely up to arcade perfection. And while the selection could be better, anyone who digs the classics (and not-quite-classics) could find far worse things to drop a double-sawbuck on.

Retro game compilations have descended upon the games industry like wrinkly retirees in polyester pants upon a Florida beach community. It seems there's plenty of room for them, though, if for no other reason than simple economics. The prospect of a dozen or more games on a budget-priced disc is a compelling offer for most gamers.

Nonetheless, you can't argue with 29 games for 20 bucks. You just can't! Taito Legends is a winner just based on value alone, but it also happens to contain a few truly milestone games (and some less memorable ones). If you enjoy retro collections, you've gotta get this one.

If you're already excited about the old games in this collection, they're re-created faithfully enough to warrant picking it up. Operation Wolf and the other light gun games aren't perfect, but they're still playable. And the budget price is perfect.

Taito's one of those classic corporations that, over the years, has been responsible for a lot of great games. The crown jewel of the Taito empire is Space Invaders, but the company's catalog goes much deeper than that. 29 of the company's arcade games are collated in Taito Legends, an easy-to-digest package from Empire Interactive and Sega. While some control issues get in the way on a couple of the games, the emulations are sharp enough.

XboxGameSpy
Taito Legends is an odd duck. It does a good job of emulating 29 games, but a lot of these games are less than exciting inclusions. Meanwhile, some genuinely classic Taito games are left out. Perhaps Taito Legends2 will remedy this, but I'd just as soon see someone localize the two editions of Taito Memories. They do a much better job of mixing classics with obscurities, and are better packages overall. Still, Taito Legends is only $20, so most classic fans will want to give it a shot anyway. It's good at what it does, it just doesn't do much.

Taito's Legends is like having an arcade in your own home. Maybe not the best arcade in town but more like the cheesy one you might recall on the wrong side of the tracks next to the 24-hour bowling alley and laundromat. Don't deny yourself the pleasure of tackling some of these games just for the heck of it. The price is great if you want to purchase it but you can't go wrong renting it for a retro-weekend party.

Even so, a package like Taito Legends is all about the games. Considering that you can pick this one up for less than $20, it’s one of those no-brainers for anyone who misses the days of old. If you’re the sort that has to have pretty visuals in your face at all times, stay as far away from this compilation as humanly possible. Everyone else, pick it up immediately. Now, let’s just hope they release a second North American collection that fills in those gaps. I want more Taito!

It's that time of the season again try to find something for the old man that he doesn't already own. Collections of old school arcade games are always a safe bet, particularly at $20. Space Invaders needs no further justification for ownership.

Taito Legends wohlige Erinnerungen. Doch wollen
Sie dafür wirklich 20 Euro ausgeben? Die meisten
Titel der Sammlung gibt's nämlich schon tausendfach
geklont im Internet – und zwar kostenlos.
Außerdem bekommen Sie fürs gleiche
Geld spielerisch deutlich bessere
Budgetware. Taito Legends ist
somit lediglich ein Fall für historisch
interessierte Spieler und für
Nostalgiker, die gerne in Erinnerungen
schwelgen.

That's not to say that this is a bad collection, far from it. There's a ton of great games to be played here, ranging from such mega hits like Space Invaders and Operation Wolf to more obscure gems like Zoo Keeper. With twenty-nine games in total, you'll definitely find something to suit your particular retro needs. I'm especially pleased that Taito included selections from all periods of its video game past and not just one in particular. Seriously, I could spend all day playing Phoenix alone! A few titles were no-brainers, such as the aforementioned Space Invaders and its sequels, but a few managed to surprise me. Who'd of thought that we'd ever see Gladiator or Electric Yo-Yo on a home console?

Taito may not be a household name to casual gamers, but it still deserves respect. After all, the company is responsible for one of gaming's first great achievements, Space Invaders. Taito's been no slouch since, developing many solid releases. However, history is written by those who control the present. Taito was recently sold to Square Enix, though curiously Sega and Empire are putting out this budget-priced compilation. That mish-mash doesn't make for the best odds for an epic collection, and while the name says Legends, very few of the 29 games here fit into that category.
