Rise of the Pirate God încheie perfect o serie mult mai cursivă și mai închegată decât Sam and Max.

All things having been considered, Tales of Monkey Island Chapter Five: Rise of the Pirate God is an honorable conclusion to the story. Telltale Games did not step outside the boundaries set by the previous episodes, but that’s a good thing. There is an excellently crafted tale to enjoy in this series. If you’ve played the previous four then there is every reason to experience the finale.

The chapter's final thrilling moments ratchet up to a ridiculous crescendo in one massive action-packed confrontation between the reanimated hero, his re-reanimated nemesis, and a whole bunch of other bony folks. When the smoke clears, things end off in a satisfying way that brings some measure of closure to the overarching story in the Tales of Monkey Island series, while leaving room for - and all but promising - more adventure to come. We've been steadily impressed with the level of finesse Telltale has applied to the series. It's definitely one that was worth reviving, and they've done a marvelous job all around.

WiiGame Revolution (May 07, 2010)
Whichever version you decide to pick up, Tales of Monkey Island is yet another great episodic adventure series by Telltale Games. Even with a few hiccups along the way, most of them technical ones in the Wiiware version of the game, the story and characters more than make up for any of that. This series is more than worth it for just about anyone who is remotely interested in adventure games.

WindowsVideo Game Generation (Dec 22, 2009)
A fantastic ending to a satisfying revival of the Monkey Island franchise, Rise of the Pirate God nails all the small details in a brisk adventure. While the first half of the game is pretty straightforward, the excellent artwork and dialog makes it not feel like a chore regardless, and the puzzles in the second half of the game are a joy to solve.

After wowing the crowds with the first four episodes in the Tales of Monkey Island, Telltale Games has rounded off the series with a hugely enjoyable adventure in Rise of the Pirate God. A fitting climax to a gripping five-chapter story arc.

Telltale delivers an episode that capitalizes on the story built in the first four. It's a thrilling, entertaining epitome of adventure games.

Despite the unreplayability, the game will last you a decent chunk of time if you give the whole package a chance and avoid internet walkthroughs, and that journey will be a whole lot of very entertaining and comedic fun. Even out of Lucasarts' hands, Tales of Monkey Island remains right a staple of the genre. Any adventure fan should have this in their collection. We recommend you buy the whole package right now.

The point is this: if you were interested in Tales of Monkey Island enough to play the last four games, you're crazy not to get the season finale. While not my favorite in the season, it is wonderful in its own right, and does not, by any means, disappoint. It's a hilarious, outrageous conclusion, and one that any fan of the series will appreciate completely. Hopefully, Telltale is able to keep the magic rolling into a second season, because this is only the beginning for Guybrush Threepwood, and I couldn't be any more excited for the future.

Rise of the Pirate God is a fantastic closer to the Tales of Monkey Island. The puzzles are challenging and hilarious, the script is strong and well-performed and it all looks very nice thanks to some great design work. Tales of Monkey Island is undoubtedly Telltale's best episodic work to date, providing the most consistently great storytelling and puzzles, and while the story is resolved in Rise of the Pirate God, there is room for another sequel by the team. We'd be delighted if there was, as Telltale and Monkey Island are clearly a great fit for each other, and any adventure game fan would be a fool to miss out on the entirety of Tales of Monkey Island.

WindowsIGN (Dec 08, 2009)
I think this is the best episode of the entire season. The writing is great, the conflicts are interesting, the jokes are funny and the payoff lives up to the promise. The only downside is that the puzzles are much too straightforward in the beginning so the game essentially solves itself as you move from one area to the next. Things get a little more complicated when LeChuck appears and you'll find yourself grappling with a couple of large, multi-part puzzles. Though there's no obvious cliffhanger, the material is set up nicely for a second season. Here's hoping it's even better than the first.

The strength of the Tales of Monkey Island series has always been its fresh takes on the characters and strongly driven story. This final chapter succeeds in both respects.

WiiNintendo Life (Feb 02, 2010)
It's a bit disappointing the characters that made Chapters 3 and 4 so good, Murray and Stan, don't return for an encore, but at least you get to enjoy LeChuck in all his evil glory – and with his original voice actor this time, as well! Although the ending isn't quite as epic as it was hyped up to be, and the puzzles are still nothing special, this is still a very enjoyable conclusion to the Tales of Monkey Island story, and it won't disappoint anyone who's played through the rest of it.

WindowsGameZebo (Dec 08, 2009)
Thankfully the plot wraps itself up quite nicely after the annoying final battle is complete, and even ends on a delicious cliffhanger like all of the previous episodes. This all but confirms that we'll be seeing the familiar faces of Guybrush, Elaine, LeChuck, and Morgan again in a second season. And, despite the few bumps encountered over the course of the five games, more Monkey Island is always a good thing.

Yes, many of the puzzles were kind of underwhelming, and yes, some of the most dramatically important scenes were severely undercut by Telltale's technically limited engine (the episode 4 finale is so almost-incredible it actually hurts), but hey -- it's Monkey Island, man. A pretty significant part of me can't help but love it, despite all its flaws.

Like a marathon runner who tries to dominate the race too soon, the Tales of Monkey Island series reached its peak much too early, just around Chapter 3. Rise of the Pirate God is the series’ biggest disappointment, combining a lack of gameplay variety, a boring graphics presentation and a surprising lack of the biting humor that made the best parts of the series so special. It would be great to see Guybrush and company back for another go-round; hopefully the next story will save the best bits for the end.
