I can't tell you how highly I recommend Tales of Vesperia. The only complaint I have is with not being able to skip cut scenes and that's such a minor thing. Otherwise, the game is perfect. The story is engaging, and the A.I. is intelligent. The boss battles can be quite difficult, but not so much so that you get fed up with it. I think everyone should go and pick up Tales of Vesperia right now.

The Review Busters
Tales of Vesperia is another Japanese RPG to make it over to the United States. Is this the best role playing game on the market today? No, but it is the strongest RPG on the Xbox 360 right now. The Tales series has seen a lot of changes throughout its years and for the most part they have all been good. RPG fans should defiantly pick this game up; casual gamers should also consider buying this one if they are sick of random first person shooters.

UOL Jogos

Tales of Vesperia is actually one of the best JRPG’s on the Xbox 360. Granted it sticks to the mechanics of the genre and doesn’t do much ground breaking, but fans of the genre and franchise will love it. I honestly wish the environments weren’t so linear, but it didn’t keep me from enjoying what I was playing. The story is interesting and the characters are engaging making for a rather entertaining experience.

ZTGameDomain
In closing, Tales of Vesperia is a must buy for fans of the series, and a Must Try for those new to the series, or new to the genre. Vesperia is, what I hope, the tip of the iceberg for next gen capabilities as the series continues.

Tales of Vesperia is a fantastic RPG that isn't to be missed by lovers of the genre. It is one of the better action-oriented RPGs to come along in a while and is arguably one of the best titles in the Tales library. This is a solid game from start to finish and it's a finely polished effort. Consider it highly recommended.

Tales of Vesperia is both a lighthearted adventure as well as an impressive and beautiful Japanese RPG that is easy to get into but hard to leave. There are countless of hours of play in the main story, side missions should you desire to go off the beaten path and plenty of extra dialog for those who wish to be more involved. Our only main complaint is that there isn't more. Sometimes, we would see areas off to the side that looked ripe for exploration, but were blocked by either invisible walls or carefully placed barriers. This would have been much more annoying had the game not been so much fun, but as it stands, Tales of Vesperia is an amazing RPG that belongs in your Xbox 360

Offers nothing new to the genre, but it is a prime example of what RPGs should aspire to with its solid story, great characters and optional level of depth.

Reading my review, some may believe I had a distinctly terrible time playing Vesperia, which couldn't be further from the truth; Tales of Vesperia is quite possibly the most entertaining JRPG on the 360 right now (though that's not saying much, considering its competition). However, despite possible objections from ardent fans of the series, the Tales franchise has not had any tangible evolution in the last few years. While Vesperia is, without a doubt, the best of the series, Namco seems content in rehashing and releasing rather than innovating with each new entry. Those who enjoy the Tales series or action RPGs won't be doing themselves a disservice by buying Vesperia, but those desiring a more groundbreaking title should look elsewhere.

GameTrailers
Vesperia features rich characters, a well-balanced, deep combat system, and impressive presentation. In fact, it’s hard to find many faults with it. What holds it back from being a must-own is that it’s all too similar to past games in the series. We simply have a hard time telling someone to buy Vesperia over, say, Tales of Symphonia, which can be had on the cheap. Sure the graphics are improved and there are tweaks to the combat, but the overall experience feels basically the same. Still, for those looking for 40-plus hours of quality action-RPG for $60, this latest Tale is well worth telling.

If anything, Tales of Vesperia is one deep and enchanting role-playing game that manages to weave a good story and keep you hooked from start to finish. It certainly isn’t a revolutionary RPG but with a wonderful cast of characters and a good story, it’s hard not to find yourself thoroughly enjoying everything about this engaging game RPG fans will come to love.

Tales of Vesperia is what we've come to expect from both a free-action RPG and publisher Namco Bandai in general. The graphics are a little under what I'd hoped and the story isn't as fresh as I'd have liked, but the battle system and the overall execution are excellent. This is a good addition to the Tales franchise, as well as to the 360's RPG library.

Truly, Tales of Vesperia is more akin to an interactive cartoon than it is to a traditional JRPG. This is one of the reasons players will enjoy this title so much. It is an engaging gaming experience that somehow capably balances storyline, combat, in and out of engine cutscenes, power leveling, and main and side mission quests. Every one of these elements comes together in near-perfect harmony, so you'll rarely feel as if any one aspect is dragging. I was surprised at just how good this game actually is. Nevertheless, it is a JRPG and was made for those gamers interested in the genre. If you are a patient player though, then there is a lot of adventure and fun to be found in Tales of Vesperia; sit back, pop some corn, and enjoy the show.

Tales Of Vesperia is one that nearly every gamer should check out. While it has some of the typical RPG gripes, the combat, story, and presentation are worth dealing with a little grinding to experience.

Tales of Vesperia is a very strong addition to the Tales series, and makes a fantastic debut on the 360. With its strong characters, superb writing and voice acting, and loads of eye-candy, ToV has an undeniable charm that will draw you in and keep you interested throughout it’s considerable length. While it may not be the end-all, be-all of RPG’s, it’s easily the best Japanese RPG currently available on the 360, and is worth a look for any fan of the genre.

Namco are hardly attempting to reinvent the wheel; they're not even trying to apply any forward momentum to the genre. It wallows in stereotype, but excels in consistency. No single component stands out, but it's in a combination of pleasant, well-realised bits and bobs that the game becomes a largely positive experience. With Tales of Vesperia Namco have produced a simple, unassuming adventure that's brimming with enough charm to easily make up for any lack of inspiration.

But it’s Vesperia’s good looks and pure charm that win out over frustrations with the battle system’s more difficult-to-grasp fundamentals. And it’s not like you’ll ever die of boredom — you have a giant folder filled with jobs to do (from cooking to synthesizing items). You’ll have to roll up your sleeves to really get the most out of the game, but the 50-ish–hour journey is truly worth the effort.

Tales of Vesperia tale of trust, friendship, adventure and justice should be enough to bait in most JRPG fans. The linear gameplay and repetitive combat aren't the most memorable elements to come out of the JRPG genre of gaming; however the clichés and standard gameplay are almost instantly forgivable with the warm hearted cast of characters, beautiful graphics and quality audio delivery. For all those who are on the fence, Tales of Vesperia is a beautifully rendered experience that is worth a rental at the least. If you are a fan of Japanese styled role-playing games then you'll need to head down to your local game store and hope they have a copy of Tales behind the cash, it will be worth the drive. Tales is one of a kind.

GameSpot
At its core, Tales of Vesperia isn't very different from its predecessors, but it's easily the best game in the series thanks to its great cast of characters and clever balance of storytelling and gameplay. It's beautiful, it's engaging, and it's fun, and while it won't challenge your combat prowess, it will challenge what you should expect from a modern RPG. This is, by any standard, the best recent example of how an aging series can be updated for contemporary consoles while still delivering what fans expect.

Game Revolution
If you don’t enjoy JRPGs than you probably made the decision to avoid Tales of Vesperia anyway, but if you do enjoy this particular genre, then you’ll find it to be a shining example of what makes these games great. There is plenty of depth, and there’s no way you’ll see everything in one run-through. If you have a month or two to kill, check it out.

UnderGroundOnline (UGO)
All of these elements, the battle system, the characters, the fantasy setting, the presentation especially, combine to make this easily one of the best RPGs available for the 360.

Game Shark
Looking at the whole product on paper, Tales of Vesperia really doesn’t do anything new or exciting. Instead, Namco Bandai takes the components for RPG success—a serviceable story, stellar writing, combat which doesn’t become a chore, anime-inspired visuals, and a fantasy setting with some roots in reality—and puts them together so well that the game just works. Is the game groundbreaking? No. Is it fun? You bet. Even after playing nothing but this game all day for the last week, I still want more. Finally, the Xbox 360 has a JRPG which it can claim as a true RPG gem, and if Tales of Vesperia doesn’t get RPG gamers believing in the 360’s future with the genre, nothing will.

For years, detractors have labeled the conventional Japanese RPG a dated genre that simply doesn't have a place among the likes of Gears of War and Halo. Tales of Vesperia exposes that assertion for what it truly is: a load of bunk. Traditional elements -- an anime-styled cast, a lush, expansive overworld, and a familiar fantasy setting -- will always be welcome, so long as they're done well. And Vesperia succeeds as well as any Japanese RPG this generation.

Gamer 2.0
Tales of Vesperia is a fine RPG, but its somewhat cliché story stands at the cliff of the compelling and doesn’t take a leap of faith. For that reason, it may feel as though you’ve played through this game before even though you surely haven’t. The battle system makes it a blast to play and the pacing between battle and story is insanely well balanced, which can keep you in front of the screen without realizing how long you’ve played. If you’re new to the genre, then you may find the story compelling and the experience memorable, but otherwise it might just feel a bit too much the same. Also, if you’re a 360 owner dying for a quality Japanese-styled RPG, this is definitely it.

IGN
Tales of Vesperia is a strong anime-style Japanese RPG with a wide- ranging story, compelling characters and an intense real-time battle system that keeps you on your toes. Although it has a somewhat inconsistent visual style and is relatively low on graphical details, the character designs and animations are very good, and there’s a ton to explore in the world. The storyline isn’t breaking any new ground and begins to unravel somewhat at the end, but there’s power here, and the characters will definitely stay with you after the battle ends.

TeamXbox
There are a certain amount of gamers –and you know who you are– that will be purchasing Tales of Vesperia simply due to its franchise’s legacy; you guys will not be disappointed with Tales first HD/Xbox foray. Tales of Vesperia will also be satisfying to those that didn’t even know that Tales of Vesperia is a late-model part in a long lineage of stout JRPG titles; that is, as long as the end user can put up with a few of the game’s quirks. If gads of dialog, characters that ooze personality and freer form combat sounds like an RPG delight to you, then order up Tales of Vesperia pronto

Tales of Vesperia is an excellent game, and definitely a worthy addition to the library of any fan of the jrpg genre. Its remarkable graphics and well thought out and voiced characters mark it as a definite achievement, and the sheer length and breadth of it means dozens of hours of entertainment. Plus there is a dog smoking a pipe.

Armchair Empire, The
Tales of Vesperia took approximately 30 hours of gameplay to complete on first pass, I didn’t find every little sidequest nor item available to me, but I didn’t go avoiding them either. I didn’t find the game particularly difficult, but did die a number of times on some of the more complicated boss battles. The general story plot isn’t particularly dense and I called every plot twist in advance of it happening. Besides re-testing those hard fights with an ally, there was no reason for me to go back a second time, does that make it a bad game? No. Just not a classic, is all. Would I recommend Tales of Vesperia? Sure, to a gamer that has no experience in RPGs or to try and entice an action junkie into the genre. Otherwise, hardcore RPG gamers will find it a bit too thin of an experience.

Frictionless Insight
Simply speaking, if you even remotely appreciate console-style RPGs, Tales of Vesperia offers a lot of play for the buck, including an interesting combat system and plenty of world to explore. It's hard to go wrong with this one, unless you're offended by the completely unnecessary use of long, invented words to make the plot seem more unique than it is.

Game Informer Magazine
Why do kids and old people in JRPGs always sound more annoying than in real life? Even though Tales of Vesperia falls into this cliché – among others – it overcomes the stereotype and delivers a solid, story-focused adventure. Though the story fits into the classic RPG mold, it’s still respectably told and sometimes amusing. Vesperia’s most impressive quality is its gorgeous visuals; the cel-shaded style tickles the eyes with its vibrant anime-inspired design. You’ll spend a great deal of time in combat, and the fun real-time battles keep the action moving at a nice clip. The battle mechanics take getting used to, but for an RPG they’re a nice change of pace and they encourage you to explore new attacks and weapons. Fans of the Tales series will undoubtedly love this one, but anyone who digs a fun adventure should check it out.

Hardcore Gamer Magazine
Tales of Vesperia is a great way to kick off the Tales series in this generation of gaming. The graphics are stunning, the characters are interesting and the game is simply really fun to play. Hopefully, this will be the game that gets the Tales series noticed by people who think Final Fantasy VII was the last good RPG in gaming.

Games Radar
Tales of Vesperia is an incredibly deep experience. Thanks to the high quality of each of its parts (gameplay, plot, graphics, music, voice-acting), it’s deeply satisfying even when it’s mind-blowingly frustrating. You could be done with the story arc in 30-40 hours, but between optional bosses, hidden dungeons, side-quests and the glorious cooking system, you could spend months exploring the wide word in Tales of Vesperia. So dock a point if you can’t stand all the nasty things JRPGs do to you (random mini-games, fake-out last bosses, multi-part cutscenes), and add a point if you live and breath anime angst – but don’t doubt that Tales of Vesperia is one of the best JRPG experiences out there.
80
RPGamer
Tales of Vesperia is a fine addition to the series and a great game in its own right, but its lack of originality and failure to do anything new are rather disappointing. While Tales of Symphonia gave the series a fresh start on the last generation of consoles, Vesperia feels like it's simply a continuation of the same old thing. With a final playtime easily exceeding fifty hours, Tales fans and fans of action-RPGs in general will definitely get their money's worth. Those who weren't impressed by Symphonia or Abyss won't find anything to change their mind here.

G4 TV: X-Play
Tales of Vesperia has already proven itself a winner in Japan, but it deserves just as much success here. The game is far from ground breaking and offers little in the way of innovation. With around 60 hours of gameplay full of beautiful anime visuals, fun characters, and hordes of quests, there's no reason not to delve into this adventure.
80
GameSpy
We've seen a few solid JRPGs on the Xbox 360 (Blue Dragon, Lost Odyssey and Eternal Sonata), but until Tales of Vesperia none have really exploited the raw graphical power that the system offers. Vesperia may not deliver a totally fresh plot, but well-written character dialogue and a great combat system go a long way towards mitigating the cliches. A superior blend of style and production values, Tales of Vesperia is the best JRPG on the 360 thus far.
80
Gamernode
Tales of Vesperia stands alone atop the JRPG heap composed of the generic JRPGs we've seen so far this generation. Final Fantasy 13 has its work cut out for it.

Worth Playing
Tales of Vesperia is an RPG for Xbox 360 owners who are desperate for a good Japanese RPG. It's miles ahead of games like Enchanted Arms and Operation Darkness, but that is perhaps the most interesting thing one can say about it. The plot is dull and hits every single RPG cliché, the combat system is fun but flawed, and there is really nothing memorable about it. Tales of the Vesperia is the Japanese RPG equivalent of a McDonald's meal: It's cardboard and bland, but filling and occasionally satisfying. If you're looking for a 360 RPG to tide you over or simply don't mind a rather average title, then Tales of Vesperia will fit the bill. Just don't expect to remember it after six months.
72
Game Informer Magazine
Nothing I’ve said should discourage players who eagerly await the gorgeous visuals that the 360 provides to Tales. If you’re still a fan of the old school approach to storytelling and gameplay, you’ll be pleased to know that Vesperia is a tour de force of what you love. For the rest of us, this series meets our modest expectations, albeit with a pretty visual overlay.
70
GamePro
Tales of Vesperia is a fairly straightforward Japanese RPG, which isn't a bad thing at all. Sure, it's clich?d and it doesn't reinvent the wheel. I'm not telling you to run out and buy it as the next big innovation in role playing, though; I'm saying if you have a soft spot in your heart for RPG games and you liked the other Tales titles, then this is a pretty safe bet for you.
60
Destructoid
Overall, Tales of Vesperia is a mediocre offering. It never truly captures the imagination nor has the ability to draw a person into its fantasy world. The battle system suffices, but it often stumbles over its own feet when it comes to item and enemy selection. The scripting is poor, and the game is woefully linear. The storyline, while seemingly profound, never reaches a level that requires thought or grabs the player. The one opportunity that Vesperia had to do that was wasted entirely.
