I’ve noticed on the internet a lot of other sites giving
this game some pretty horrible reviews. Some of them really make me wonder if
the reviewers actually played the game for more than 15 minutes. After having
it a week, I can tell you it can be an incredibly difficult fighter, but it
also incredibly deep and a whole lot of fun to play. If your not into fighting
games, try a rental first. If you are a fighting fan, go pick up yourself a
copy and invite your buds over and open up that can of whoop ass!

Overall, Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus is a good fighting game for Xbox owners. If you are bored with Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, you should give this a try. While it isn’t the Deadly Alliance killer it was hyped to be, on its own, it is a fun game. And that is what matters.

Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus has turned out to be an incredible fighting game, and an A+ first effort by John Tobias' new development company. Solid gameplay, and beautiful graphics overcome what I think can be some pretty cheap computer AI. But it's been a blast to play, and I know it will continue to get playtime as my fighting game fan friends come over to be next in line for the eventual whoop-ass. By the time you read this review, the game should be on the shelf. If you are any type of fighting game fan, you owe it to yourself to check this one out.

As a premiere Xbox fighter, Tao Feng: Fist of the Lotus is miles better than Kakuto Chojin, but it's still a few short steps behind Dead or Alive 3 and Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance. Regardless, this is a game that fighting fans should check out.

Tao Feng has more good points then bad points. This game is done fairly well, and if you liked the feel of Mortal Kombat you should enjoy this game. Give it an extra final point, if you are in the category. Although everything except the gameplay was damn nice, it just held the game back enough for me not to add it to the good or bad list. It’s a good fighting game, just not a great fighting game.

Tao Feng looks and sounds just fine, but it doesn't have a strong enough fighting system to make it a viable option for fans of the genre. Players looking for a solid fighting game on the Xbox would be better off sticking with the reigning champions, Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance and Capcom vs. SNK 2 EO.

Tao Feng winds up being a study in game design do's and don'ts. DO take innovative chances (limb damage, interactive environments), but DON'T sacrifice FMV. DO give characters combos, but DON'T make them unbreakable. DO add plenty of extras, but DON'T, um, well, DON'T forget that one.

Rather than being the title contender many were hoping for, Tao Feng would far more likely to be Frank Bruno's next opponent. Although it's by no means the worst beat-'em-up we've ever played, it's hard to see what TF:FOTL was supposed to offer that would compete with the many superior titles already on the market.

In fact, Tao Feng is so easy on the eye visually that if you saw a demo of it running you might actually think it was going to impress you. But keep watching and, like a drunken rejection from a girl in a nightclub, it will quickly dawn on you that it's not going to happen. Like the gameplay, a solid base was never built upon and the end result is just boring.

When I reviewed Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance, I said that there was room on the market for non-hardcore fighting games and that I was glad that a good one had finally appeared. Well, now I'm starting to renege on that, because Tao Feng represents everything that's wrong with non-hardcore fighting games. It has no depth, looks like crap in motion, and has little to occupy a lone player. With a superior game widely available (in the form of MK:DA), there is little reason to waste time with Tao Feng.

It's painful that such a product was released, maybe even more painful that this actually had a nice-sized ad campaign going for it. The money that was used to create this game would have been much better spent doing something more like burning it. Even if the end result is the same, at least then I would not have been subjected to this torture and could have spent that waste of life on something at least mediocre. I wouldn't call Mortal Kombat: Deadly Alliance much more then a decent-to-good fighting game, but it certainly beats the living hell out of this steaming pile of excrement. Yet something evil this way comes, as the sequel is already in planning stages. I can only pray it never lives to see the light of day, as to quote someone that had to spend far more time with it than I did, "There's a direct correlation with how much time you spend versus how much you loathe it."
