It was a long time ago when the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon, based on the insanely awesome comic by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, hit the airwaves. Now the forces of retro desperation are returning the green machines to the screen as well as every single gaming platform known to man.

I’ll spare you the exhaustive history of the TMNT brand and all its marketing goodness. You all must remember back in the day when these turtles first started kicking butt on the TV and in a series of movies and action figures. It was an overall assault on capitalism. Not only that, it was a darn good idea. Most importantly it was fun. When Mike gave me this assignment I was somewhat skeptical as to whether this game would do its’ theme justice, but I was optimistic. Is it a bust, or is it worth the dough?

It seems as thought the next generation of TMNT fans have arrived and the marketing has already begun. There is a whole new series of home videos and action figures awaiting you on the toy store shelves, along with some hidden commercials in the game. It’s another marketing wonder ready to rake in the big bucks.

Although I’ve slammed this title on many fronts, I want to end things on a more positive note. This game is one of the better next-generation brawlers that there is, which simply demonstrates the limitations of the genre. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is fun, looks amazing, and will certainly appeal to their main fan base. But, like the plastic bins of original Turtles figures forgotten in the back of your closet, don’t expect to come back to this title often after you’ve had your fun with it.

TMNT is what you were expecting. Not too deep, not terribly long and button-mashing fun for awhile. The presentation is awesome and engrossing, but the monotony will eventually get to you.

It's definitely a pretty game, but they really could have done a lot more with the primary characters. Limited amounts of throwables, inability to utilize the "special" ability of the character until not only late in the game, but requiring playing of all four characters through nearly the entire game before making the ability even available...these are just a few things that detracted from my enjoyment of the game. So, in the end... while I really wanted to like this game, I can't say I liked it even half as much as I wanted to.

If you spent even a portion of your youth in the early 1990s, chances are that you have at least a vague, working knowledge of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Starting out as an underground comic book in the '80s, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles achieved massive success when it was translated into a Saturday morning cartoon in 1987. From there, movies, action figures, and the inevitable video game spin-offs followed. Unsurprisingly, the games based on the TMNT franchise were largely very popular; what was surprising, however, was that they weren't successful simply because of their brand name but because many of the games were actually legitimately well made. Though the TMNT franchise has been taking a bit of a breather over the last few years, a new TV series has recently debuted, and not far behind it is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the latest video game featuring the heroes in a half shell.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles doesn't wear its nostalgic aspects particularly well, and the remaining components simply don't make for a very entertaining experience.

Even so, anyone who really wants to play Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles should definitely look toward any of the console versions of the game rather than the PC version, as it just doesn't hold up its end of the bargain, comparatively.

In short, this is a completely standard beat 'em up with nothing innovative, nothing that stands out, and a number of features that have been less than ideally copied from other games. Beyond that, it's a decent title.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Ah, the old glory days of youth. From the dark comics (complete with beer swilling), to the humorous cartoon, and even the live action movies, TMNT has always been a staple of mine. While reading an EGM (and watching an old video tape from the early 90’s cartoon series), I was stoked to find out that Konami was resurrecting the game in conjunction with the new cartoon being aired on Fox. De Turtles hebben het helaas niet waar gemaakt. TMNT ziet er geweldig uit in zijn nieuwe jasje, maar is verder te eenvoudig. De game mist duidelijk Turtle Power.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is a game I want to love, but hate to play. I've been a TMNT nut since the original animated series -- I own all the figures, a slew of the comics, and even TMNT sheets. I was so excited for TMNT -- with my false hope that it would in someway capture the essence of the arcade title. The magic just isn't there.

It's been a while since we've been able to kick some shell with four giant, ninjitsu wielding, turtles. Spawned in 1984 by a healthy dose of green ooze and two hardworking artists, Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Mutant Ninja Turtles started a nationwide craze. These rat educated turtles popularized words like "cowabunga," "radical," and "totally tubular." Everything from animated series, toys, comics, and lunchboxes to live action movies possessed some form of Turtle power.

This series has been known for its exciting moves and combos, but this title lacks that kind of coolness that previous incarnations had. Completing each level is simply run down to button mashing. All you have to do is hit the basic attack buttons, while watching your health meter and you can easily defeat every enemy and beat the game in three or four hours. If Konami had included the NES classic titles, I might recommend renting or even purchasing this title, but as is, TMNT does not even deserve a look, it is nothing more than a button mashing children's beat-em-up.

Remember when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were kings? Of course you do. It’s a shared experience as memorable to the late 80's as reading lips and no new taxes. Over a decade has passed, and with another Bush comes the return of the guys in green. A new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoon on the airwaves demands that it’s high time for a new Turtles video game.

TMNT tries to add more flavor by including a Versus mode, which hearken back to the 16-bit Turtle fighting games by allowing to go mano a mano (or turtle a turtle) in a classic fighting game match. Too bad they didn’t change the control though, which is far better suited for a button-masher than a brawler.

If I invested all the quarters I plopped into Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (TMNT) arcade games -- especially the incredible Turtles in Time -- I'd ... well, I wouldn't be writing this review because I'd be too rich to work. But instead of investing thousands of quarters in tech stocks, I played the games. It's easy to understand why; those coin-op classics featured addictive gameplay, sweet graphics, and awesome four-player cooperative action. When I heard Konami was making a new Turtles game I was stoked. This, at last, would be the modern-day version of those arcade treasures. Sadly, that's not the case at all. It looks like a really cool game, but this latest TMNT adventure is too overlong and repetitive to live up to its esteemed predecessors.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, is it? Ah well. It's easy to get indignant about yet another ticked box on a list of '80s TV shows to plunder, but it's such an inevitability in the current creative vacuum that there's a temptation to just roll with it and see what happens. So we decided we would. Just this once. It only took us until the Konami logo disappeared to realise our mistake, but by then it was too late - we were caught up in an introductory sequence of such piercing dreadfulness that it took us a full 30 seconds afterwards to regain our senses and stem the flood of tears gushing from our disbelieving eyes.

Back in the day, way back before the diggy Doctor Dre made an appearance, I’d be wilding out to the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I still hold them personally responsible for starting a pizza addiction that saw my waist size balloon, but hey Bebop and Rocksteady were looking worse than me so I forgive them! At their peak the Teenage Mutant Ninja (or Hero, depending which side of the Atlantic you lived on) Turtles were the most popular thing on television. What goes up must unfortunately come down, and the Turtles came down with a bang.

As a big fan of the old-school Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games (particularly Turtles in Time on the SNES), I couldn't wait to sink my teeth into this modern 3D adaptation. So believe me when I tell you that this game is absolutely awful. Seriously. TMNT's cell-shaded graphics are sharp and clean but woefully uninteresting. Your enemies look terribly generic, and you'll barely notice the plain, uninspired scenery. The gameplay itself is repetitive and wholly unsatisfying.
