How much you enjoy the game will directly relate to one factor: If you played so much Tekken 2 and 3 that you couldn't possibly play another match, Tekken Tag doesn't offer enough new features to draw you back in. But if you've stayed away from the Tekken series for a long time, Tekken Tag is a very warm homecoming, delivering the same solid gameplay that Tekken fans crave in large doses. Still, you won't be able to stop yourself from wondering what Namco could have done with the game if it had been designed on the PS2 (or comparable arcade hardware) from the start. Guess we'll all have to wait for Tekken 4 to find that out.

Overall, Tekken Tag Tournament is the best Tekken title ever. With 34 characters, and a lot of extra features, and with some amazing features, you can expect to spend a lot of time playing this one. But then again, it's the same old Tekken, only in compilation, and a little extra tag feature thrown in. As mentioned, it's Tekken 3.5, and doesn't add a whole lot to the Tekken franchise. Tekken Tag Tournament is amazing in its merit, but I felt that Namco could've used the PlayStation 2 better. But considering the PlayStation 2 is hard to develop for, and many problems that plagued the Japanese version are gone, Namco should be praised.

It seems like it was just yesterday when I was playing the first installment of Tekken on the brand new PlayStation. Consequently, it only feels like it’s been 15 minutes since I first played TTT on the Japanese PlayStation 2. Even though I think this is getting a little old, I can’t help but get sucked back into the classic Tekken play schemes. This version is nearly arcade perfect, and I’m glad to see Namco spent a little time cleaning up the character models, which were a little jagged around the edges in the Japanese release. With all that said, I had a lot of fun learning some new character combos– there’s a ton – and kicking some booty with Lei, my favorite character. Tekken is easily my top choice for PS2 fighting games on October 26.

This game is just as great as Tekken 4 and has even greater graphics. If you are sick of the style of Tekken games then this game doesn't really add anything new. But you should pick it up, just for the graphics. If you want a game that features all the Tekken gang then you should check this out, it combines all the greatest aspects of the Tekken series and that makes it one of the best ps2 games to date.

I wouldn't say that Tekken Tag Tournament is really a breath of fresh air, because the game doesn't really bring anything new to the series, but TTT is still an excellent fighter that deserves all the praise it can get. If you were one of the luckier people out there who nabbed a PS2 on day one, then go out and pick up a copy of Tekken Tag Tournament, especially if you are a Tekken or fighting fan, you owe it to yourself to purchase what is currently the best fighting on any console, sorry DOA2 and Soul Calibur, I like my Tekken and that's just the way it is. If you already have Tekken Tag Tournament then go pick up a PS2 Multi-tap and tap in the fun that the game offers with four players, you won't regret it.

As much as I love the Tekken series of games this version is a little bit of a let down. The slow pace of the game and the lack of new features from previous versions (apart from the 2 on 2 battles of course) means that this is really the old game with pretty graphics. Still the old games were among the best fighters ever so your not going to be buying a dud. Unfortunately if you own previous versions of the game it may seem all too familiar.

If you're looking for the best 3D fighting game on a console, you should go get Soul Calibur for your Sega Dreamcast. But, the chances are that you don't really care what the best fighting game around and are only looking for more Tekken. If this is the case, then look no further than Namco's Tekken Tag Tournament for PlayStation 2, as this game is arguably the best version of Tekken available anywhere. It has more characters, more moves, four-player tag battle, and more secrets than you'll find in any other fighting game in the world. If you're looking for revolutionary new features or gameplay, you're not going to find it here.

I may have played too much of the other Tekkens for my own good, but the long-running Tekken campaign is starting to get a tad monotonous. Improving the graphics and adding the tag aspect are great perks indeed, but some bigger alterations are needed to truly hold my interest. Tekken Tag is a classy looking Tekken 3 with four combatants instead of two. That’s about it.

The lack of change in gameplay mechanics will either turn you on or off. For the absolute hardcore fans of the series, they will adore this sequel with its minor additions. Also, if you've never played a Tekken game before and you're looking for an awesome fighter, Tekken Tag is just about as good as it gets. However, for those casual fans who feel that they've played the previous games enough, it's likely that you'll tire of this one quickly. This is easily the best game of the series so far, but if you're looking for something completely new (full 3D, background interaction), you're gonna have to wait for Tekken 4.

After getting over the initial excitement of the newly arrived TTT, it's time to settle into the set rhythm of completing the game with as many different characters as possible. Now 32 characters are selectable, including personal favourite Bruce, the resident kick-boxer. Old combinations mixed with new give some surprisingly sweet results. Experimentation reveals that specific character combinations create additional attacks. This in itself is fun to try out, as old character combination attacks have changed, so that new attack patterns need to be invented. For a change of pace, Survival mode contrasts with the Arcade mode as tactics become more important -- every scrap of life is needed, for only a percentage of health is returned at the end of each round. This mode helps exercise the basics more than the others. Although style is important, as it can be used with vicious success, such things mean little in Survival mode.

The most despicable Tekken Tag faux pas is the omission of a last hit slow-motion replay. Where is it? Nowhere, that's where. This replay used to show you the last 3-4 seconds of a match, which looks really cool. In its place is a new generic feature wherein your very last winning blow is very quickly repeated twice from bad angles. This is a lot like what you see in the Bloody Roar games, but to a lesser degree. It just doesn't allow for a gloating victor to annoyingly relish in the slow-motion defeat of his opponent. Dammit!

PlayStation 2Digital Press - Classic Video Games
Tekken is not a game for everybody. Die-hard fighting games have disowned it from the day it was released for it's lack of skill compared to it's counterpart, Sega's Virtua Fighter. Tekken Tag will do little (or nothing) to turn these people around, but fans of the series should be most pleased.

To be honest, although the "tag team" aspect adds a little strategy, it's not particularly enjoyable. On the bright side, Tekken Tag Tournament is easy to play, has a nice techno soundtrack, and there are virtually no load times. A move list is available from the pause menu, and Tekken's famous "character usage" records are always interesting. Despite the lack of innovation, Tag Tournament is still worthy of the Tekken name.
