Description

New Orleans, Louisiana, 1893. A boy named Rizing is exploring the surroundings of his hometown together with a couple of friends. They discover a mysterious old house, go inside, and discover what seems to be a mummy in a coffin. They don't realize that at this moment they unleashed a powerful demon into the world. And that this demon has already possessed the soul of one of the boys...

The game is set in United States of the late 19th century - not in a historically correct environment, but in an alternate world populated by demons, Biblical figures, and deliberate clichés(cardboard Indians, pop-culture, etc). Just like the first Tengai Makyou games made fun of the Europeans' image of Japan, this Saturn installment of the series jokes at the foreigners' view of United States. The gameplay is a fairly standard console RPG system, with turn-based battles viewed from first person perspective, usage of magic, and special attacks that can also performed by several members of the party as a combo.

Alternate Titles

  • "天外魔境:第四の黙示録" -- Japanese title
  • "天外魔境 第四启示录" -- Chinese title (simplified)
  • "Tengai Makyou: Daishi no Mokushiroku" -- Common alternate pronunciation
  • "Far East of Eden: The Apocalypse" -- English subtitle

Trivia

The ancient hero Yuriwaka who appears in the game is a figure from Japanese mythology. Some researchers say the legend of the wanderer Yuriwaka could be influenced by Odysseus, also known as Ulysses, the famous hero of Greek epic legends. "Yuriwaka" literally means "the young Yuri"; this name could be the Japanese transcription of "Ulysses".
