Sometimes when you're golfing you nail a hole because you bail yourself out with a superb putt, chip, or tee shot. But this game is instead like masterfully shot hole, where each stroke feels just right.

But that's just a minor annoyance in what's really EA's finest golf game in years. I've never been the type of guy who needs a new Tiger every August, as they all seem so similar, but Tiger 08 is the exception. GamerNet is the most revolutionary feature to hit golf games since the analog swing, and because of it, I can see myself swinging for the green, the crowd, and those random ricochets for months to come.

Without doing a whole lot to change the way the game works, development has added some interesting things into the mix in Tiger Woods 08. The Photo Game face, though still buggy, will flat-out blow you away, but EA's GamerNet is still a work in progress. On the links, the ability to use a three-click-swing is cool, as is the game's added focus on player confidence and past track record. Just like in real life, Tiger continues to impress.

There’ some new golfers, courses and a few new features, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 isn’t much different than its predecessor. But with the quality handicap it already owned, there wasn’t much need for the Tiger franchise to change its stripes. With a perfect balance of excellent simulation and arcade golf gaming and another round of good online play, EA’s flagship golfing game continues to dominate as the best around.

Any golf fan must own this game. Any sports fan must own this game. In fact, any game fan should have this in their collection. This isn’t just a golf game, it’s a golfing experience. This is as close to being outdoors playing as you can get without leaving your house. EA Tiburon has done a great job with their first golf game, and if all future games add to the genre as much as this, I shall be a happy man. For those of you thinking of sticking to the 07 version, don’t. This is definitely worth the extra money. This game really is Tiger Woods.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is the most complete and refined version of the series yet. Overall, it is very similar to last year's Tiger, but the refinements are cool. The presentation, sounds, graphics, and attention to detail are all great. The inclusion of the Confidence Meter, GamerNet, and Photo Game Face make this year's Tiger a title that's not to be missed by any golf fan.

came away impressed with Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08. I am in no way a fan of the sport (I call it a sport dubiously) or of the franchise. Yet I still find myself emotional over a missed opportunity or a miraculous shot. This is not your father's golf game. Tiger has come a long way in providing a fun and diverse number of different ways to tee off. I chip it... I mean, I dig it.

Tiger 08 boils down to a few additions, but not much change overall. It's still a great game, but the new additions, other than Shot Confidence to a degree, really don't alter the core game. Tiger fans, of course, will no doubt eagerly drink up anything the game has to serve, but casual fans may want to stick with last year's if they're not willing to shell out $60.

Although it doesn't add too much, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a great game if you're bored of last year's version and want to try something new. However, if the new additions don't sound too appealing, you can stick to last year's version and not miss a whole lot.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is the best Tiger Woods yet but really feels like an incremental upgrade over last year’s game. That said, there are five new courses, one new mode and some improvements made here and there. Whether that’s worth a full price upgrade depends on how much you like the Tiger Woods series.

As a whole the game is a good package. I’m thoroughly enjoying working my way through the Tiger challenges and updating my golfers look as I go through. I’ve heard many gamers say that it isn’t very different to the previous version so this may be a game for hardcore fans of the series or those looking for a high quality Golf game. Hopefully the game will be patched soon, though the unforgivable bug is represented in the final score.

However, as much as I support the agenda to differentiate between the last- and next-gen versions, the PS2 version wins the battle in this area (and this area alone). I’m not a pro golfer, but even if I were, I’d still want my games to have as many advantageous features as possible. That’s one of the things that should separate games from real life – fantasy.

The issues peculiar to sports franchises require some specialized buying advice irrespective of the final review score: If you're a Tiger Woods franchise fanatic, you pre-ordered last year, so I won't bother with you. If you're a golfer and have never played the series, absolutely get it — run, don't walk. If you're not a golfer but enjoy good sports titles, you'll almost certainly want this one. If you're not a sports fan but have finally decided to give a sports video game a try, Tiger Woods' PGA Tour 08 is a great place to start, but beware that it may spoil you for future sports titles. For everyone else, I say there's a point at which suspension of buying by default the latest Tiger Woods game makes sense: It's a close call, but I favor stopping here at PGA Tour 08 over sitting pat on last year's version.

Lastly, we have to mention GamerNet. This allows you to set up your own challenges online and brag to the community when you pull off amazing shots or overall amazing scores. It's an online feature that just about every sports game should have, we think, and for some, GamerNet will take up a lot of their play time. There's just so much to do! Overall, the game suffers from a strange and ill-fitting soundtrack, a 3-click swing system that's a little fast and loose, various erratic feedback from the game, and some silly mini-games that aren't as fun as they should be. But despite all this, the physics are excellent as always, it's the best-looking entry yet, the options are insane, and most importantly, definitely appeals to just about any golf fan. It's got everything you could want and even a little more, even if the execution of the enhancements isn't always spot-on. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a worthwhile investment for all you duffers out there, plain and simple.

In short summary: buy this game for the controls alone, if you like golf and you are actually adequate in playing the sport. Also the added mini and arcade games add a lot of fun and variety. The technical side is a bit low, the AI very forgiving and they can remove the commentator for the 2009 version.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a fun game, and even I, a non-golfer, had a lot of fun playing. I think it has enough features for the casual golfer to enjoy and enough control for the golfing fan to feel like he's on the course while in the comfort of his home.

I was a bit underwhelmed when I first got into Tiger Woods 08, I just didn't feel like there was enough new in the game to make it worthwhile. And then I kept playing, I got into the Gamer Net and was addicted, and then played more into the Career and once again was hooked. And of course the Photo Game face is not only a fun thing to do for yourself, but bring a friend over and show them the new technology and you instantly have an engrossed fan of the game as well - it is that impressive. If you are into Tiger Woods and have always wanted to see yourself in a video game, now is your chance with this title.

It’s this balance that ultimately sells Tiger Woods to a wider audience than ever before. The lack of initial on-screen prompts aside, it’s entirely possible for anyone to throw themselves into Tiger’s 2008 outing and have both a rewarding and entertaining time, be they a golf fan or not. For a sports simulation, that’s surely the greatest accolade of them all.

Tiger Woods 08 is a remarkable golf game. There are many things it does right but it feels like some of the modes have been sacrificed in order to make more changes. Most of the mini-games are just outside the box of being outstanding. The career mode is, like Madden’s gameplay (solid and dependable), something you can take to the bank. Tiger Woods 08 should and will dazzle sports gamers. Sure, there are a few areas of missed opportunity and unaddressed issues that should have been resolved but it doesn’t distract from the core of the game which almost hits the hole-in-one.

With only a few changes to this year's version of Tiger Woods PGA Tour, only Shot Confidence makes a difference to the way the game plays. If you have last year's edition, unless you are a real fan it's not worth buying this version. But if you are new to golfing on the Xbox 360, it's safe to say this is easily the best version of the sport available on Microsoft's next-gen console.

So langsam erinnert mich Tiger Woods an meine Sims-Familie.

It still plays a great game of golf though, and is almost embarrassingly eager to please with its abundance of game modes and options. Don't like an option? Just switch it off. Need some help grasping the basics? The game leaps into action to take your hand. Want some guidance to refine your pro game? Everything you need to analyse your performance is at your fingertips. Almost every area of the game can be customised in line with your tastes to the extent that, if you ask nicely, Tiger will probably even dress up as Sailor Moon and call you Susan. Given the variable quality of the EA Sports brand over the years, the general air of sequel cynicism is more than justified but, if you're willing to invest the time in building a better golfer and not just grumble that it's too hard, this is the best Tiger Woods has been in years.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 actually is an improvement to its predecessor, although there’s no enormous progression. Fans will love TW 08, but personally I see this as the ideal time for new players to join the community since the old, easy way of swinging has returned. Not only is it a lot easier to make a nice shot, you also take your time to learn all about the game rules without having to worry where the next ball will land. Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 remains a major hit, even though there aren’t many new things to be found!

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is the same Tiger from years past. If you don't already own a previous version then it's certainly worth a look. Those that already have a copy from the past few years would be better off passing until something dramatic happens to the series.

There is no denying that Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is the best golf game yet on the Wii. However, it's only fair to call it a slight improvement upon Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07. The Wii exclusive features such as the mini golf and the taunting feature aren't worthwhile in my opinion. The taunting is practically rendered useless anyway without the ability to play online. Graphically it doesn't make any advancement and whilst this isn't an important aspect of the game, it would be good to see the extra power of the Wii being utilised rather than having to put up with graphics that look as though they've been lifted straight from the PlayStation 2 version. On the plus side, the controls feel a little better and you can definitely see that progress is being made in this respect. There is definitely a lot of promise here that hopefully will be realised in Tiger Woods PGA Tour 09.

Another year, another solid installment of Tiger Woods PGA Tour. As this series slowly creeps back to the level it once was, there’s really not too much to complain about anymore. It’s just strange that EA would ship it when its biggest new feature is completely offline.

Overall, this is a great version of Tiger on the PS3. Whilst there is not a tonne of content to set it above last year's release on the 360, it is a significant improvement on the previous PS3 version. The only fly in the ointment for this particular reviewer is the existence of another particular version of the game. Before coming to Tiger on the PS3, I had played the Wii version and enjoyed the real-life swing mechanic of the Wii-Mote. Unfortunately this left my PS3 experience feeling slightly flat. Whilst the PS3 outstrips the Wii in almost every other area, the simple lack of motion control is a real deal breaker for me. This is obviously only a concern if you have a Wii, and should in no way put you off grabbing a copy on the PS3. If you are one of the PS-Wii fraternity however, think carefully before opting for the game with the better graphical experience.

Golf is a strange game. It can generate the most profound feelings of accomplishment...and moments later make you want to bash your own head in with a 3-wood out of sheer frustration. If you don't have Tiger Woods 07 and you don't really care about the Game Face or GamerNet, you'd be better off getting the now-cheap 07 iteration. Tiger Woods 08 isn't a horrible game; it just doesn't offer enough to justify dropping $60 on it, and until (or if) they're fixed the bugs will only cause frustration.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour '08 is not a bad game, far from it, actually. In fact, the team that makes the game does a great job of mixing just the right amount of arcade playability with sim game realism. However, there's not really anything here that makes this year's version any better than previous titles. The game has all the same courses and play modes as you've already seen before, and the Photo Game Face, while cool, is not worth buying an entirely new game. Take the money you'll save and go get yourself a nice lap dance, you'll be happy that you did.

What changes you do find in Tiger Woods 08 are positive; however, it’s just the fact that there is more polish needed to make this title really stand out. If you picked this up for the PS3 last time around with the 07 version you’ll be cursing spending the additional funds on this. But if you’ve been itching for an enjoyable golf game which is tilted to the simulation side a little more than some other titles then this could be good to pick up. However, my recommendation to you would be to rent this title first before dropping sixty Benjamin’s on it.

If you're a serious member of the videogame Pringle club then, with all its options, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is definitely worth a purchase. If you're more of a Sunday morning hacker, however, then the game's difficult beginning may mean that you never reach the entertainment that lies beyond it. No matter how much you love your golf, however it's hard not to concede that if EA has spent less time on window dressing like the Gamernet and more on including extra courses and getting the controls and difficulty gradient right then they would have been much more likely to score a hole in one.

The hardest thing about reviewing a game like this is that you must weigh it's overall ability against the previous incarnation. If the newer version is only slightly better than the previous version in terms of graphics or depth but not gameplay, then does it deserve a better score? Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a very good golf title that's enjoyable to play and if you don't already own a copy of Tiger Woods 07 then it's definitely worth a look - even if you are not a fan of golf. You also have to consider that this same game is being released on the PS3, so any major improvements will probably be found in that version rather than the PS2 one. However, if you're a Tiger Woods 07 aficionado looking for a far superior game on what has come before. It's not a whole new game, but it's still a very good representation of golf, now that you know where you stand, the rest is up to you!

While this is a fun golf game that is much more in depth than the version on Wii Sports, there’s not a lot of reason to upgrade if you already have Tiger Woods ’07. There is a lot of variations of play that will keep fans of the sport busy for quite some time, and swinging the Wii Remote around is a lot of fun and adds an additional dimension to the game that the 360 and PS3 versions won’t have. While the graphics could stand to be updated, they aren’t so bad as to cause the game’s overall rating to drop. Recommended.

People who worry about yearly releases diluting the quality of games have plenty of ammo in the form of Tiger Woods 08. The changes to the gameplay are minimal, and some of them make the game worse. There are only five new courses, and many new features don't feel fleshed out, don't work well, or flat-out don't work. The PlayStation 3 version is the one to go with if you have the choice. It's a good game with fewer issues than the 360. Xbox 360 owners should just stick with Tiger Woods 07.

What this amounts to is a game that isn’t significantly different from Tiger Woods 07. I know there are many gamers out there who don’t yet have a next-gen console, but if you want the best Tiger Woods experience, don’t settle for anything less – even if that means waiting to play it.

PlayStation 2IGN
Tiger Woods PGA Tour 08 is a respectable golf title that unfortunately doesn't make any significant improvements over last year's title. The Shot Confidence stuff is a decent idea, but it can punish you when you try risky shots that are already difficult enough, while safe players won't notice much of a difference. The FedExCup Tournament is just an extra set of events on courses you will already golf on in the PGA Tour, so that doesn't add a whole lot. Again, this is largely the same game we saw last year, so while it's certainly a fine golf game, it's not really worthy of a new purchase if you have 07.

PlayStation 2Strategy Informer
Tiger Woods PGA Tour ’08 could be the last in the series for Playstation 2 owners. If PS3 sales really pick up then we could see development support for it’s ever popular last-gen console starting to dwindle early next year. Tiger Woods ’08 could have been a fitting swansong. It isn’t however. The care and attention that was poured into ’07 simply isn’t here this time round and it seems like EA have given up the ghost on the PS2 when you compare the new additions to the next-gen console versions of this game compared with this one. EA has been accused of shovelware many times in the past but it’s recent titles such as EA and the ever improving aforementioned FIFA seemed to have gone some way in ripping that label off. Tiger Woods ’08 on the Playstation 2 however is just that.

Tiger Woods 08 slices on the fundamentals of the game’s controls, which can only improve as you learn how to compensate for their weaknesses as you dip into the wealth of content that’s at your fingertips. It’s the only way you can find enjoyment in the game that doesn’t make much of a good first impression. A rental certainly should offer enough time to figure out if you can make the controls work enough to warrant a purchase for the dearth of content and even then, it may be worth it to hold off for a price drop while you put that $50 towards something that’s worth your money. For now, if you want great golf gameplay for your Wii, you should already have it for free in the form of Wii Sports.

TW08 is a fine example of mixed bag gaming. On one hand, you have a buggy application, dated graphics, lousy music, missing features, questionable control, and a general feeling of more of the same. Normally, these reasons would be more than enough to sink a game. However, on the flip side, we have the well-crafted and genuinely fun to play Tiger Challenge, more golf courses, more real-life players, a more robust golfer creation system, and good multiplayer support, which manage to keep TW08 afloat despite its dead weight.

Of all the versions of Tiger Woods 08 this year, the PS2 offering is the weakest, as development is clearly focusing on the next-gen consoles. As a result, those still playing on Sony's old black box will feel the snub. Of course, those still playing on Microsoft's old black box will feel an even bigger snub -- there wasn't even an Xbox version of the game this year. With very little to distinguish it from last year's game, there's definitely a mailed-in feeling to things. The PS2 version of NASCAR 08 also gave off that same mailed-in vibe. EA, apparently, has been spending a lot on postage when it comes to its last-gen releases.

At the end of the day, this is a game that should be good, and very nearly is. If you can look past its many flaws, there's a lot of enjoyment to be found. Chipping in a shot from the rough on the far side of the green, and watching it sink really does come with a sense of achievement, you feel like you earned it. However the number of small glitches and design issues really hinder the enjoyment.

Tiger Woods 08 is loaded with idiotic design flaws. You'd expect the main screen to display the hole and par information, but no, you need to click on a special icon to access that info! The commentators are two worthless douche-bags who spout juvenile garbage like "Good shot - moron!" and "Oooo... let's see where this one ends up!" And why does it sound like a jumbo jet is flying over every hole?! It certainly sounds real (I kept looking out my window), but let's go easy on the audio effects guys! Ultimately, Tiger Woods succeeds in spite of itself, mainly due to intuitive controls and brisk pacing. This is the closest you'll get to playing actual golf in your living room without causing hundreds of dollars in damage.

To be clear, neither version is terrible. If you're itching to get your Wii-mote-swinging hands on something more realistic than Wii Sports Golf, you'll enjoy the basic swing mechanics of Tiger 08 on the Wii. And if you're looking for a realistic PS2 golf sim, it's hard to go wrong with any Tiger game. But both games -- the Wii version especially -- ought to be so much better.

This game also suffers from many of the same design defects that plague the Wii version, including a needlessly complex create-a-golfer feature and the fact that your head will sometimes block the hole during a putt! The fact that the current hole and par information are not displayed on the main screen is beyond stupid. Apparently EA invested all of their time and resources in the new "photo game face" feature, which lets you upload your own face onto your character. Who asked for that feature? Oh yeah, that's right - no one. The left stick is used to swing your club, and the gameplay is respectable but not exceptional in any way. It lacks the pick-up-and-play quality of the Wii game, and it takes nearly twice as long to play a round. Most Xbox 360 owners will probably be satisfied with this, but only because they don't know what they're missing.

Lack of innovative new features or truly ‘next-gen’ visuals makes this a decidedly average game on the PS3. It is time for EA Sports to step up and make a Tiger Woods game worth of a full price purchase every year. This version is little more than an update.

It feels as though every single idea pitched for how to update Tiger Woods Pro Tour 08 somehow all got approved, regardless of merit. Instead of refining the fundamentals, the title concentrates on unedited excess that doesn’t blend well with a realistic golf game. Though it’s the best example of the potential for a Wii-based golf game, potential is still the operative word. If I had a choice, I would rather watch angry people play golf.

Only a fool would spend $40 on Tiger Woods 08. If you own 07, it would be like buying the same game twice. If you don't own 07, you'd be better off buying that one because it costs half as much and actually has more courses.

I am thoroughly disappointed with Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 08. I only hope the other games ported to the Mac run better so that they receive better reviews and EA games continues to support the Mac platform.
