At the end of the day, Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is a terrific addition to the Ghost Recon franchise and does the Tom Clancy name proud by delivering a futuristic tactical shooter experience unlike we have seen on the Xbox 360 to date. The in-game visuals are solid, the sound is just as good, and the single player, cooperative and adversarial multiplayer gameplay modes make Ghost Recon: Future Soldier a must buy for not only fans of the franchise but for anyone looking for a deep tactical shooter to play well into the summer. Now if you excuse me, I have some cooperative missions to go play again.

Overall, the single-player is pretty easy and short (but considering the competition, it’s less of a rail shooter and more like a “make tactical calls in this 75 square feet area you can stroll around”), while the multiplayer is a breath of fresh air. My only problem with it is the lack of an open lobby co-op, which limits the “lone wolf” player’s access to co-op. Some things simply tie together like ballet (this syntagm comes as no surprise when you think about Assassin’s Creed design, a game where a correctly built level means you can fluidly run in high profile mode across the map on any axis), and the human brain’s penchant for fluid gameplay seems to be Ubisoft’s main objective for a while now. Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is no exception, and the small unaesthetic or functionality mishaps don’t change the basic fact that it’s a well-done title, with multiplayer modes that will probably be played long after the campaign credits scroll down your screen.

Einmal mehr entwickelt sich eine Serie weg vom eher ruhigen Schleich-Programm und hin zur massenkompatiblen Kawumm-Unterhaltung. Denn in Future Soldier steckt quasi nichts mehr von der anspruchsvollen Militär-Simulation, durch die Ghost Recon einst berühmt wurde. Als ich das erst mal verdaut hatte, machte mir das Spiel aber wieder Spaß, viel Spaß sogar. Die Missionen unterhalten bestens, die Zusammenarbeit mit meinen überaus klugen KI-Kameraden motiviert. Denn auch wenn nun deutlich mehr Action drin steckt, eine stupide Simpel-Schießbude ist Future Soldier trotzdem nicht.

It’s unfortunate, then, that we can’t give the multiplayer mode its own score, because developer Red Storm did a bang-up job on that one. Future Soldier’s campaign is still a good time, and it hits a good window as far as length — 12 missions, each lasting an hour or so — but better scripting and storytelling would have carried it to much greater heights. So if you’re planning to do most of your Ghost Recon online, do some mental math and adjust the number upwards. And don’t underestimate the R/C helicopter — no matter what kills you, you’re still just as dead.

Overall GRFS is in interesting game that does enough differently to make it worth your while. The story is drivel, and the nods it makes to the Modern Warfare series are almost ruinous. Despite these low moments, however, it seems that whoever wrote the awful story and cut scenes had nothing to do with the brilliant level design and gameplay. Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier is fun from beginning to end. As a fan of the Rainbow Six Vegas games, its great to see a third person shooter that also emphasizes great design, tactical combat and player emancipation over tightly scripted set pieces and on rails shooting galleries. Its hard to make a modern military shooter that gets your blood pumping, but Ubisoft Red Storm have managed to do just that.

Si certains soucis sont relativement mineurs (bien que très agaçants), les problèmes d'incompatibilité nécessitant des patches en urgence forcent le joueur à se changer en technicien arpentant les forums pour profiter sans risque de son jeu. En attendant l'arrivée de correctifs, on recommande donc la patience ou d'être prêt à mettre les mains dans le cambouis.
