While it might not be the back-to-basics game fans were expecting, Conviction is an outstanding title from top to bottom. On sheer value alone the game warrants a look, with an action-packed and satisfying single-player campaign, lengthy co-op mode, and entertaining online components. Why Sam has stepped out of the shadows and is on full out attack makes complete sense in context with the story, so if you can accept it for what it is and not dwell on the fact that it isn't what you've come to expect in a Splinter Cell title, you'll no doubt agree that Conviction rivals Chaos Theory as the best title in the franchise's history.

Splinter Cell: Conviction is the best installment in the series. The developers took some major risks in design and presentation that paid off, resulting in a game that's at once approachable and complex, and arguably the current last word in stealth adventure.

Conviction is the best game in the Splinter Cell series to date, it's taken the genre and turned it on its head, replaced the really old-school slow stealth with something that allows you to adjust your plans on the fly and really feel like a predator in single or multiplayer. It might have a short 8-9 single player but additional to that is the cooperative story and Deniable Ops modes that add immense value to the product. We hope to see more levels and missions for DO mode or perhaps even a few new cooperative story missions, this is one game you can't afford to miss and even though there are a few low poly problems and AI hiccups, the whole thing is produced to a high standard and Ubisoft deserve kudos for trying something new and innovative, this is a direction I hope they keep going with Splinter Cell.

In Splinter Cell: Conviction I can save the world in just a few hours and then do it all over again with a friend. This might not be the biggest Splinter Cell in the franchise but is by far the best and gets my vote for most innovative action game of the year.

If you are even remotely interested in the world of spies and advanced technology Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Conviction should be an easy-purchase for you, we are recommending it with every fiber of our gaming body.

As a game based on its own merits, Splinter Cell Conviction delivers a well rounded package offering plenty of value for all types of gamers. The story mode is excellent, with great set pieces, and a chilling take on such a familiar character. Some missions are definitely up there with the best of the series that's for sure. The co-op campaign and adversarial modes are awesome additions, but the real smash hit has got to be the Denied Ops which players can sink many days and nights playing until Ubisoft release some more maps. This game certainly has game of the year qualities written all over it, and as long as you ditch any preconceived ideas at the door before entering, you'll be greeted by an stealth/action experience that will most likely not be surpassed for quite some time. It seems with 4 years in the making Ubisoft have done good with the series and propelled it into a new realm that's ultimately for the better, Conviction rocks!

Splinter Cell Conviction isn’t the most astonishing game you’ll play but when you put the final product in perspective, there’s no doubt in my mind that Ubisoft Montreal managed to create the second best game in the Splinter Cell franchise. The first game will always maintain a very special place in my heart. Splinter Cell Conviction deserves a place in your game shelf. Don’t be a fool and miss out on it. You will not be disappointed.

Un must!

Xbox 360InsideGamer (Apr 15, 2010)

Conviction is a Splinter Cell game in name more than anything else. You could easily swap Sam Fisher for Jack Bauer or create an all new character and no one would give it a second thought. The gameplay is fast, and Sam has been transformed into the ultimate killer. It's an amazing game, but so different from its predecessors you might not recognize it. Despite a few questionable level design choices, Splinter Cell Conviction is a great addition to the series. There's no way I could go back to a stealth game as it used to be; I've been converted. The only reason to hesitate and pick this up is if you only care about the single-player story and want nothing to do with anything else Conviction has to offer. If that's the case, then there's not a lot of game to be had. And also, you're nuts. The best parts of Conviction are the experiences you have long after you've left Sam Fisher behind.

Xbox 360Vandal Online (Apr 13, 2010)

Splinter Cell: Conviction may have been delayed a few years, but the wait has well been worth it. An exciting campaign, sweet Revenge kills, bad-ass interrogation sequences and an incredibly addicting co-op mode make Conviction one of the best Splinter Cell titles to date. Fisher may be frazzled but he can still kick plenty of ass and fans will no doubt love the journey they will take along with Fisher and the dozens of fun ways to dispose of enemies along the way.

All in all, Conviction is a splendid package, positively glowing with good health. The amount of content is huge as it is, but the range of options for how you play lends it enormous replay value too. The main thing, though, is the remarkable and bold focus - none of Assassin's Creed 2's endless tutorial or ridiculous minigames, or indeed of Arkham Asylum's irritatingly blocked routes and hollow collectormania. This reborn Splinter Cell just gets on with it: it has the courage to pick one thing, the fantasy of being a hi-tech manhunter, and do it as well as possible,. Conviction believes in itself, and so should you.

Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell Conviction is so meticulously crafted it’s tempting to call the game “realistic,” as if we sofa jockeys know what it’s like to be a real-life special-ops assassin. It’s more accurate to say that Conviction, the latest of the Splinter Cell stealth assault games, feels genuine to the Clancy ethos. In both the main campaign and a rich two-player mode, the trademarks of Clancy’s military fantasy world—espionage, conspiracy at the highest levels of government, surgical application of deadly force—come to life with unrelenting suspense.

Xbox 360NZGamer (Apr 14, 2010)
There is a lot to love in Splinter Cell: Conviction. One of the main highlights takes a page out of Jack Bauer’s autobiography and lets you interrogate characters throughout the game by extreme force. For example you might use a computer panel as a nice headboard to help your victim remember something; or simply throw him through some glass to get him to talk. All of the narrative and story-driven dialogue is beautifully pitched throughout, making the plot meld seamlessly with the gameplay. As far as negatives go, they are few and far between. The biggest is probably a fairly short single player storyline (around 6 hours, but the co-op campaign does offer another 5 on top of this). There are a couple of graphical glitches too, such as ‘mark and execute’ headshots defying the laws of physics and going through walls. But overall, Splinter Cell fans will still appreciate all the features that have been poured into Conviction and even Sam Fisher virgins should check this game out.

Xbox 360XboxAddict (Apr 13, 2010)
Overall, Splinter Cell Conviction belongs in any fan of the series library. Also, if you're a fan of coop gaming action this is your game. I know a lot of people will complain on the lack of mass multiplayer action, but seriously? Do you want to see ten Sam Fishers rooting around trying to hunt each other down? I don't think so Tim! This is a well put together game, and great value, you're basically getting three games in one!

Xbox 360Game Informer Magazine (Apr 13, 2010)
Second opinion An arresting sense of urgency surrounds every stealth kill Sam Fisher performs, and each level tests your reaction speed and split-second tactical skills. Figuring out how to best move through the levels to take out the many enemies was a thrill, and the gameplay is elastic enough to allow for multiple solutions to almost any problem. Using the game’s mark and execute system or torturing guards for information make you feel like a badass. It’s too bad that the AI is so willing to broadcast its position with annoying taunts. The story also isn’t particularly gripping, and as soon as things finally get interesting, it’s over. Co-op does a great job of iterating on the game’s single player mechanics. Working with my partner to take out four and five guards at the same time in a coordinated breach and clear maneuver might be one of the most exciting gaming moments of the year.

Splinter Cell: Conviction isn’t the series’ high point, but it does get the franchise back on track. Fans who have been at Sam’s side since day one should walk away with a sense of closure and optimism for future installments. At the same time, this is a great jumping-on point for newcomers. The fiction includes all the relevant plot points of the series’ past without the Tom Clancy techno-babble that bogged down previous entries.

Even though the main story is short, it doesn't feel like anything's missing. While it's not the best game in the world, SCC is arguably the best in the series. Better sneaking mechanic, one of the best cover systems ever, and pacing on a level unlike anything you've experienced in a stealth game, all while keeping it accessible to new players. It's time to go rogue.

It might have been a long time coming, but when a game reeks of pure quality like Splinter Cell: Conviction does, forgiving delayed release dates is easy. This is a game that more than makes up for the protracted wait, with both a fantastic single player campaign and brilliantly worthwhile multiplayer component to boot. Ultimately though, it's great to see Sam Fisher fighting fit once again after a four year hiatus, proving that there's plenty of life in the old dog yet.

And it’s the changes to the gameplay that make Splinter Cell: Conviction such an enjoyable, modern, stealth-action game. The stealth has been improved by a sublime cover system and minimalist changes to the HUD, while the ability to shoot yourself out of trouble and the addition of “mark and execute”, and all the strategy that entails, makes this the most accessible Splinter Cell to date. With an engaging story, impressive presentation and voice acting, and a variety of multiplayer game modes, Conviction has a lot of quality worth experiencing.

Splinter Cell: Conviction’s reboot of the franchise nearly hits the nail on the head, although as far as the single player campaign goes, it’s as if Ubisoft Montreal ran out of ideas in the end. Suited and booted with some great co-op and multiplayer modes, Conviction is quite easily one of the year’s hottest action titles.

Splinter Cell: Conviction is an entertaining, well polished game with a sophisticated story. The narrative jumps forward and backward on the timeline a little, but never gets confusing and works well as a storytelling technique. Gameplay is well paced and playtime is sufficient, though another level wouldn't have gone astray. For someone like me who doesn't quite have the patience for pure stealth games, Conviction strikes a nice balance between stealth and action.

The gameplay is fast, and Sam has been transformed into the ultimate killer. It's an amazing game, but so different from its predecessors you might not recognize it. Ubisoft clearly gave minimal effort in bringing Conviction to PC. The game plays fine, though is better-suited for a controller. The issue really comes down to the poor online interface, which works great on Xbox Live, but is too sparse for PC. A lack of options turns matchmaking into a total crapshoot and I had a few lag-filled experience (and crashes) along the way. The best part of Conviction is too unreliable on PC.

If you’re a fan of the Splinter Cell series, you want Splinter Cell: Conviction. Despite the shift to a more action-oriented style, stealth is still vital to Sam’s survival. For everyone else who is not a diehard fan, it’s still a fun game to play.

This isn't the Splinter Cell of yesteryear. Sam Fisher is losing patience, which in turn translates into speedier stealth and a lot more bullets than before. It's hard not to feel a twinge of disappointment if you're a fan of the series. Sam's newest adventure doesn't offer the challenge you may be expecting, and recent stealth-action hybrids like Metal Gear Solid 4 and Batman: Arkham Asylum provide much more satisfying single-player experiences. Yet stellar storytelling, fantastic co-op play, and rewarding executions make Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Conviction a legitimately great game that delivers frequent surges of excitement. Between the brief thrills of freeing your partner from a chokehold and the sharp adrenaline rush of a bloody execution, Conviction will leave a mark on your memory.

Overall Splinter Cell: Conviction is a let down for long time fans of the series, but as a game in its own right it is worthy of your attention. If the game was re-packaged, re-branded and re-skinned as '24: The Game' then it would have been one of the greatest movie or TV game adaptations ever. As it is though, the game is Splinter Cell and has to live by the name it is given. A decent effort, but after such a long time in coming a bit of a let down.

Where once players were free to tackle Splinter Cell's enemies in myriad, improvised ways, now the options are more limited, traded for an upped tempo that's more Arkham Asylum than Metal Gear. At its best, Conviction is played as a high-stakes puzzle game, taut and thrilling when everything is going your way. But when cover is broken, the floodlights go up to reveal a mediocre shooter. Perhaps the greatest irony of all is that Splinter Cell: Conviction appears brightest in the dark.

Xbox 360Game Shark (May 10, 2010)
Thank goodness UbiSoft decided to add cooperative multiplayer to the feature list of Splinter Cell: Conviction. Without it, this is a surprisingly average third person shooter that takes itself far too seriously—but with it it’s an engaging spy ride to take with a buddy as you sneak, slide, and execute your way through the main story’s prologue.

WindowsGameSpot (Apr 29, 2010)
It's a shame that the PC version of Splinter Cell: Conviction doesn't deliver on its potential. Stellar storytelling and slick executions lead to some enjoyment, but other facets of the game come across as careless. Co-op play without player communication; uneven performance; copy protection that leads to noticeable in-game frustrations--these and other elements distract from what should have been a great game. That it retails for $10 more than a typical PC release makes these flaws seem even more egregious. The issues won't make you as angry as Sam Fisher, but they will make you wish that this version of Conviction had been given the loving care it deserved
