Tomb Raider III: Adventures of Lara Croft

I love this game. The Tomb Raider series in my mind is one of the greatest adventure games ever made. Some people might say that there isn't much different from the rest, but why change something that is good? With the different areas and vast levels, any Tomb Raider fan will be entertained for hours on end. If you haven't gotten it yet, go out and do so or just ask Santa really really nicely and he might just put it under the tree.

Another fine effort from Core. I found the third TR to be the charm for me, you see I have always had this love/hate relationship going with this series. Yeah, I have always liked the character design (hehehe) and fascinating plot lines, but have never really liked the control or over experience. I usually end up playing a level or two and then putting it down for a while. Well, this one was different...besides the damn annoying levers that you still have to find the game plays out great! The levels are just the right size, the hi-res graphics look gorgeous and the analog control totally works for me. Overall, a nice tight package...

Finally, of course, there's Lara herself. She's got new costumes (a different one for each stage this time). She's got new moves (including a vaguely pornographic down-on-all-fours crawling motion). She makes more attractive groaning noises. She drives more vehicles (kayaks and quad bikes). She dies in more hideous ways. And her ponytail sways in the wind. That makes her a more valid superstar than, say, Sandra Bullock. Lara deserves the box office. We still love her. We're sure we shouldn't, but we do.

Der er ingen vej udenom - Tomb Raider III skal stå hjemme på spilhylden sammen med de andre Tomb Raider-titler, man burde have anskaffet sig gennem tiden.

Kender man allerede til Lara, kan spillet ikke stjæle mange uger. Gør man ikke, er spillet et mere helstøbt TR-produkt end vi tidligere har set, og en herlig introduktion til det specielle gameplay serien altid har stået for - og med muligheden for at klare banen på forskellige måder har Eidos taget et skridt mod en mere flydende og behaglig spiloplevelse.

Tomb Raider III is absoluut een hele vette game en zorgt voor weken speelplezier. Maar hoewel Tomb Raider als zodanig een origineel concept was en is, lijkt Miss Croft inmiddels grafische een beetje op oude roem te teren. Ook kwa spelinhoud is het meer van hetzelfde. In deel 4 zal het roer echt om moeten, want hoe sterk de gameplay ook mag zijn, ze kunnen niet eeuwig de Tomb Raider-koe op deze manier blijven uitmelken.

Tomb Raider III doet het trouwens op heel wat vlakken (levelopbouw, graphics, sfeer) veel beter dan de vorige edities, en zeker als we dit spel los van de vorige delen bekijken is het een topper.

Auch wenn es mir nach einem Jahr wieder eine Menge Spaß macht, mit Lara durch die Welt zu ziehen: Wirklich neu spielt sich Tomb Raider 3 trotz der sinnvollen Detailverbesserungen nicht. Diesmal kann ich damit noch leben, aber wenn die nächste Folge keine echten Fortschritte bietet, kehre zur Abwechslung ich Lara den Rücken zu. Bekennende Fans können also zugreifen, Einsteiger seien vor dem happigen Schwierigkeitsgrad gewarnt.

In conclusion, Tomb Raider III is a great game. I enjoyed figuring out all the puzzles, guiding Lara through the various parts of the world and fighting the different characters/animals. It doesn't solve the problems that it's predecessors had, but fans of the series will be pleased with what TR3 has to offer.

Sicherlich, es wäre in Zeiten von Half-Life und Konsorten langsam mal überfällig, daß Core Design eine verbesserte Grafik-Engine vorlegt und der guten Lara beispielsweise eine Mimik verpaßt. Wenn zudem die Labyrinthe im hoffentlich kmmenden vierten Auftritt noch verzwickter werden, dann sind ein Automapping oder zumindest einige spielerische Neuerungen Pflicht. Schließlich liegen mit Titeln wie Heretic 2 bereits hochkarätige Konkurrenten auf der Lauer. Trotz all ihrer kleinen Schwächen hat die gute Lara aber etwas an sich, wovon die meisten Neider nach wie vor nur träumen können.

The sad thing is that Tomb Raider III solves none of its original dilemmas, and as it stands now, the exploration-adventure genre -- one that was revolutionized by Tomb Raider -- is in the exact spot it was two years ago.

I dig Tomb Raider III. It's not my favorite game, but it has solidified Tomb Raider as my favorite series. As would a great action/adventure movie, it leaves me cheering. That, and how can you not love Lara Croft? Much like a character in a well-written novel, she makes you race to the end just to see how things turn out for her. And as computer gaming technology grows, I can hardly wait to see how Lara and the Tomb Raider series grows with it.

Bref Tomb Raider 3 déçoit un peu par son manque d'innovation. Cela dit, il reste un excellent jeu, et ses nombreux fans seront sans aucun doute comblés par cette nouvelle aventure.

When it really comes down to it, TRIII is more of the same, only done better. They game is huge and it will take a long time to finish, but it's also horribly frustrating in parts and you may end up tossing it aside to play some other more rewarding game. In the end, TRIII is fun, but offers nothing new to an already played-out series. If you're a fan, you'll love TRIII, but if you're a casual gamer you might want to look at some of the other titles available for the holiday season.

At the end of the day though (and putting all the hype, creepy marketing campaigns, and strange celebrity worship surrounding the series aside), there's no denying that Tomb Raider III is a solid game, worth the time of anyone who enjoys a good puzzle/adventure title. Those who lost interest in the series with Tomb Raider II may want to give it another look with the third.

As with Tomb Raider Gold, you must ask yourself, "How much do I like Lara Croft?" Have you played TRII and TR Gold into the ground, and are craving for a new adventure? If so, TRIII is heaven-sent. But if you're more fickle with your choice of gaming genre and have played either TRII or Gold, TRIII will seem old hat. Some levels were downright annoying, while others (Nevada, specifically) were truly entertaining. If you've never played Tomb Raider before, you're in for a huge treat, though I struggle with whether to recommend TRII or TRIII first.

Tomb Raider III should be a hit in the Mac community. If you had a blast playing the two previous incarnations of Lara Croft on your Mac, you should run right out to your favorite store and buy your own copy. Better yet, hope on the net and buy a copy from your favorite online store. I know this may be preaching to the choir, but if we want to continue to see these big hits come to the Mac and see the time lag between the PC and the Mac versions shorten, we need to support the developers and porting houses by buying games. We need to put our money where our mouth is. It is a given that Apple needs to do its part, but supposedly it is we consumers that drive the market. The more games we buy, the more games come out. Tomb Raider III is definitely worthy of your hard-earned cash (or your parents' moolah).

If you loved the first two Tomb Raider installments and can't wait for more, then Tomb Raider III is worth checking out. Likewise, if you've seen Lara Croft on posters but have never played a game in the series, then Tomb Raider III is a perfectly enjoyable game that might just provide you hours of fun. But if you're looking for something new, you'll need to look somewhere else.

Auf der Suche nach Beweisen für seine Evolutionstheorie reiste Darvin einst zum antarktischen Kontinent wo sie eher zufällig eine unglaubliche Entdeckung machten. Sie fanden vier Artefakte des Asteroiden der einst auf die Erde stürzte. Alle vier Teile gemeinsam beinhalten das Geheimnis der Evolution, doch weiß heute kein Mensch mehr wo sie sich befinden, bis auf ein einziges, welches der Matrose Steven vor lauter Aberglauben in London verkaufte, da sämtliche Besitzer der anderen Teile eines gewaltsamen Todes starben. Wenigstens waren ihre Sterbeorte bekannt, welche in Nevada, Indien und im Südpazifik lagen.

You get the feeling, where's the rest of the game? Not sure where they went wrong, but I noticed the improvements. The maps have been redone; Lara's model got a huge face-lift. The animations have been increased and improved. The guns are louder and the grunts are in sync. The CG's screens still captivate me. And the story doesn't lag, there is still a good plot. Certain graphic issues were fixed and now you begin to wonder what more can you do? Where else can Lara go? I'm not sure but I do know this, she's running out of hot spots to crash.

Now that the new stuff is out of the way, there's really no other way to describe Tomb Raider 3 other than to say it's an inferior game in an otherwise solid series. Although it looks and plays very similar to TR2, this newest installment has lost all its soul. It offers very little in terms of innovation or decent gameplay. I've tried to like it, forced myself to like it, but, for all intents and purposes, 40 monkeys and a game developing kit could've done a superior job.

I think it is obvious that both the replay value and entertainment factor are almost nil. You have played this game before. Lara is a little rounder, and she gets some mildly arousing (I'm kidding, Phire) costume changes. But other than that its the same old, same old. The fact is TR3 is a disappointment to new comers and loyal TR fans alike. It is my opinion that the series has been decaying slowly, and Tomb Raider 3 just emphasizes this point.

The graphics are slightly improved, and the dual shock controller is supported for the first time. Unless you completed the first two games and are dying for more, I would not recommend this. A difficulty setting may have helped matters, but Tomb Raider 3 simply isn't much fun.

The sloppy design and threadbare technology woven into this title smacks of greed - it looks like the very popular Tomb Raider franchise is being milked for every penny of profit without any great regard for quality. But if gamers send the message that it's bad business to release a second-rate, low-effort sequel -by leaving this title in the store- maybe we can look forward to something creative and worthwhile for Tomb Raider IV.
